Judging from the extensive \"Drugs in PS\" posts, a lot of future players are fond of drugs. I was just wondering what your oppinion on drugs was. And now with the (slow) movement to de-criminalize marijuana here in Canada(A judge actually threw out a possession charge against a teenager, small but a precident none the less).
So what do u think.
I myself used to be a pothead, and if u have time and money, I don\'t have a problem with weed. I haven\'t done it in over a year though, and I have seen people ruin their lives because of it, so I guess moderation is the key.

Personally I have never taken drugs before. I have been offered pot once but turned it down. Though 75% of my school, which is an all boys school, do drugs and dont just pot. My feeling is if you do it then fine. Its not that big of a thing to me, though I dont plan on doing it. The worst I have done is I used to smoke and I drink.

Heh, I \"used to be\" a caffeine addict. Not that I don\'t drink coffee anymore, but I had to pass from 8-10 cups a day to 2. Because I started having heart quivering. So I decided to stop it.
Other than that, I have never (and I dont want to) try other drugs.
Drugs in the game? Makes me smile somehow... hehehe

I personally think that marijuana should be legalized, for various reasons, none of which are the fact that I smoke. But that isn\'t what this post is about. Any drug, used in moderation and full knowledge of what you are getting into is okay. I personally will never do \'hard\' drugs, but my roommate loves the cocaine, though he is not addicted. The biggest trick to not becoming addicted to anything is randomness. Do it when it feels right, and don\'t do it at the same time each night, or each week. Make it a treat for rare occasions. This is most true for the \'devil drug\' tobacco, because it is impossible to get physically addicted to marijuana.

Yeah, and they can sell it in stores too, and while we are at it, let\'s make having sex in public legal too... oh, and with minors. And also, let\'s just cause total chaos and the main thing, Mad riots of evil moms killing everyone.

Personaly I\'ve never done any drugs myself, on purpose, I accidentaly took an anti depresant once when I confused it with some of my bronchitis medicine, cuz the pills look alike... I could get ahold of whatever I wanted, if I wanted, but I dont.

well, i don\'t use drugs. For the simple reason that i\'ve seen my nephew destroy his life with that stuff.
He was at one of those house parties (god i hate those house-trance-dance-whaddyacallthem-idiots) when he first used it.
XTC, mostly soft drugs really. He got addicted, started staying away from home for whole nights, sometimes days even.
When his parents said something about it he got mad, and then finally he flipped. He smashed up the house of his parents completely. Then he went to the city and threw in a window of a shop and stole some stuff.
Naturally the police caught him. He went to jail and had to go to one of them clinics. That\'s like 5 years ago and he\'s still not out. I won\'t go into any further details but let\'s just say that those years have been hell for him (and his family) and he\'s a complete mess now. He threw his life away and he\'s only 22.

I don\'t understand why most countries forbid soft drugs, while alcohol is still legal. Since alcohol is a harddrug IMHO.
Anyways, there\'s nothing wrong with softdrugs. A joint is less worse for your health then a cigarette. But hard-drugs are evil. The indeed can destroy your life.
I never done drugs, and I\'m not planning to. I might try a joint, but I doubt that I will like it.

I\'ve never taken drugs, and I see no reason to do it either. I was in Christiania last summer (area in Copenhagen where no cops is allowed and light drugs like marijuana is legal).
We took a beer or five (All alcoholic drinks were cheap there) and one of us began rolling a joint (not me), it was very funny cause he was very inexperienced in rolling a joint so he rolled it too big :D
That\'s gotta be the biggest joint I\'ve ever seen in my life and when he smoked it he asked us if we wanted some, but I said \"no, I don\'t smoke\".
I think that people who do drugs just prove how weak they are. I agree that one single joint isn\'t dangerous, but one thing often leads to another, and before you know it, you\'re into it. If you have the guts to say \"no\" then you have proven yourself strong.
Don\'t do drugs, cause it hurts not only you, but your family as well.
Drugs in games isn\'t the same thing, because it isn\'t real, so it doesn\'t matter if you smoke yourself to death because you can revive yourself again.
You gotta see the difference between a computer-game and reality, and if you don\'t, you\'re one of the idiots who gives us gamers bad reputation.

I don\'t agree with you. Soft drugs are not addictive. At least not physically. Cigarettes are addictive. Soft drugs usually don\'\'t mess up your body. Alcohol is worse for you then soft drugs.
Here in Holland, soft drugs are legal. But I think that 70% of the people who take soft drugs here are tourists. Legal drugs do not increase drug usage in a country. I think it even decreases it. Since smoking a joint isn\'t \"cool\" anymore.

...I can\'t wait for a time when humans open up and see what they are truly seeing. I DID NOT TRY DRUGS BECAUSE THEY SEEMED COOL. Nor do I continue to use drugs because I feel in my body that I need too. Especially with marijuana, each use is a completely seperate instance, and it is not a matter of control, but a matter of perspective. People use drugs and alcohol (parasite, I\'m sorry, but I personally know that weed screws up your body much more than alcohol) to look at the world from a different point of view, in order to formulate new ideas and understand what was unattainable before. And you don\'t really know because you have no experience to go by. I know that sounds stereotypical and haughty but it is what is happening.

I think parasite got a point here. Legalising the soft drugs banalises its usage, thus, lots of people aren\'t interested to try it out anymore.
Although there will always be people not responsible enough to control the cunsommation of mari. It\'s the same for alchool and casino.

if i really wanted pot i could get it pretty easily, considering a good ammount of people at my school think they are cool because they smoke it. but i play sports, and ive seen how bad there endurance is after smoking weed, so it sorta discourages me from smoking. plus i dont want to become any dumber than i am :P

Brain cells are not depleted in that sort of way, more the ability of the brain to function is lessened. If brain cells atrophy and demylinate, the brain shrinks (this happens with direct interface drugs like inhalants and cocaine). With marijuana and most other drugs, build up or demylination occurs, lessening the ability of the brain to send message but in most cases not harming the brain cells themselves. Just your average nugget of information.

marijuana is great to me, it expands your mind to a new level.
but most people have the idea that being high is like being stupid, which is there to because as well as broadening your thought it DOES poisen you, which is where the laughter acting dumb come in, but if youve smoked for a while you pass this poisening part because you start getting immune to it, and only your thoughts can realy come into to play.
ive also done mushrooms a few times which is a much higher level of poisening your body, yet still not enough to do actuall dammage (unless done very extensivly or with huge quanitys) mushrooms un explainable and I recommend them for anyone to do once in there life, anyone thats really down to earth, wants to know more about life and its secrets, and wants to learn how there mind works.
anyone else think the crime rate and suicide rate would go down if marijuana was legalized in america? hehe i do it think it help those crazy\'s chill out
just because i promote both these drugs dont think that im for unnatural and dangerous drugs ( acid ecstacy coke herioin that kind of crap) cause that will not get you anywhere and can easily ruin your life by getting addicted or you might take some bad stuff since it is man made it can be made improperly
jsut so you guys know ive never smoked cigaretes, drank beer, or anything liek that, it seems the only reason to do any of those things would be to be popular and get attention... which i dont care very much for
btw when i say that it will help you think i dont mean its going to help you do you homework better or read a book faster (although it might help you get into it more) it will help you think on life decions understand life, will greatly incline you musicly and artisticly, and help you understand how you work, think and why you are the way you are.

and I...Have a problem with drugs.
I started when i was in 8th grade when me and my friend darrel (we were like twelve at the time) broke into a dope dealers house and found a six pound sack of hash.
We had plans just on selling it to all the burnouts at our school, but little did i know it could make you feel so good... I have been smoking on and off for about four years now. And its safe to say that weed isn\'t as bad as people say it is.
ps. I\'d also like to add the the fact that it lets you freestyle rap better and get ur emotions out to bbum\'s list of helpful things marijuana does for you.

We skipped school once in 9th grade and broke into a house that was just across the street so that we would have a place to stay untill school got out (damn we were stupid) and we poured soap all over the house and raided the house looking for money but all we found was a crack pipe and a huge water bong. The next day we all got caught and expelled and I had to move away. The owner of the shit hole of a house called the cops and they told them all of us who skipped school the day before. Luckily I was gone already because my mom was so pissed at me and she shipped me to my grandparents house the next day, where I am surounded by stupid ass cowboy hicks who all support Bush.

Damn yo some of these stories are really bad....but all I have to say is that Cigs are really bad and hella adictive... I started in 6TH grade.....
Yah, West Virginia was a really bad place to be a kid(actually I still am a kid...only 14) cause every kid there thinks that they have to be the worst they can possibly be to get away from their parents....and they extensive forests makes it easy to hide and do drugs and hide stuff...so yeah that bad..
Anyway...I kept on smoking and doing worse stuff till last year....when I got arrested and had a few nights in juvi.....so I have had the hardest time quitting cigs.....I have been off for a year or so....and now I still get cravings........ My oppinon is if you have the abbility to completly avoid doin drugs........Use that abbility...

Actually, it may only feel like this because of some kind of dependency. Many people say that cigs or weed, etc. helps them concentrate and feel smarter, but all it really does is stop the discomfort from their cravings. Eventually you really can become dependant on drugs till you feel weak and sick when you don\'t get it. I\'ve heard some pretty bad stories about people who got stuck with drugs (all in health class of course) so I think that the world would probably be a better place if drugs didn\'t exist.
If drugs are in Planeshift nobody would use them (if they\'re realistic) because they would only hinder you, since in games \"feeling good\" does diddly-squat for you.

sleep drugs are good...they make you sleep and you wake up feeling good...without the bad side effects (unless you use too much of course :P)
I hate trying to sleep for 4 hours and only getting more tired but not going to sleep, its such a bad feeling

what you said sounds alot like cigaretes... pot is a totaly different thing, you get no dependancy or addiction, and when you smoke it its not for relieving a craving, although that is explaining exactly cigaretes
and feeling sick and weak when you dont get them, thats hard drugs like heroin or crack, which is dumb in my opinion

not to bore anyone, just my stroy..
about a year and a half ago, i was a big stoner. that lead into experimenting with over the counter drugs such as robotusin and coricidren. which then lead to me thinking i should better myself and go to college. joined a 7 month program and was given 2000 dollars for the exams that i need to pass. well, that 2000 dollars lasted me about a month, most was spent on weed, the rest on ciggs and gas for the truck. a month and a half into the course, i was flat broke and dropped out. now i sit here, sober for 9 months with a 17,800 dollar loan for the next 15 years, (w/ interest = 32k). id say weed really messes with your judgement, but its not harmful if you got control... whats the devs plans for pot/herbs in this game? maybe not advertise but it would be part of this \"underground\" scene that eventually affects the outcome of this massive world? just a thought...

Me and my friends last summer got so bored (and were so penniless) that we developed a plan to turn suddafederin into speed and sell it to all the fiends at the local projects. I would searchout how to do it on the net and they would steal all the stuff nessary to cook it.
we almost would have went through with the plan (i actualy found the recipe) its just my conciouse came into play and i realised how fu-cked up i\'d become and (luckily) I moved away from palm springs.

I\'ll never do drungs, probably because my dad was an inspector and worked homicide, and my friends step-sister smoked pot. My dad talked about his cases, and one of them had to do with a guy who was smoking weed, when his girlfriend dumped him so he stabbed and killed her parents. He brought home a laptop with the pics of it on them, and when he left the room, I went on it to play \"pinball\" and saw the pics. Kinda gross( I wasnt supposed to be in there). I\'ve also seen a lot of car accidents when people who are high go driving and cant reach the brake fast enough. I dont think weed is terrible dangerous, but I\'ll never take any and I hate the way it smells, living in the meth capitol of the world, it triggers my asthma :). My friends sister once was high when I went over their house, and her eyes were all sunken, and she kept kissing the fishtank. Drugs in planeshift would only be good if they gave you added bonuses. Otherwise I probably wouldnt buy any at all.

I have never taken any hard drugs. Within the past couple years the only drug I\'ve taken is caffeine, and I that\'s only when I\'m really thirsty and there\'s nothing else around. I don\'t drink coffee and the only softdrinks I like are the Sprite-type drinks, most of which are caffiene-free. I also don\'t take any kind of medicine, even when I have a splitting headache. I think My immune system is much stronger and I have more energy because of it. As for drugs in PS, I\'m sure there wouldn\'t be any that do nothing. They would probably be like in Fallout where they heal you quickly or enhance a certain attribute immensely while decreesing others for a short time. These would probably be very useful, but have a chance of addicting or damaging your avatar or permanently lowering attributes. An addicted player could constantly take damage if the drug has not been taken recently, and the addiction would slowly fade over time. By the way, beer is a drug, so if there are in fact no drugs in planeshift, Kada-El and the other barkeeps won\'t make much money.

Although they may not be medically addictive people still can live to depend on them. I hear people talking about smoking b.ong when they have a bad day or just feel in the mood, and then they\'ll have days where they need dr.ugs but can\'t get any and will act like any addicted person.
I\'ve seen how stupid people act when they\'re high. I don\'t need dr.ugs, I\'m high on life. I\'m hooked on phonics. I do aspirin man. heheh

I personally don\'t drink/smoke/do drugs, but i have no problem with people smoking a joint every now and then. I think pot is better than cigs/booze, but then, I AM from BC... :) Anyways, drugs in the game would detract from the whole game, with the exception of a good tankard of mead, because, let\'s face it, post battle carousing is a must for many adventurers.

I\'m using at least one drug all the day ... the one i\'m sitting in front of :-P If you look at the meaning of drugs differently, even \"power\" is a drug (and too often many dead civilians are the result :( ) I think thats one of the worst drugs ever!
Drugs in game: I played Neocron Beta4 for some time (Shadowrun like world) where you could count drugs as one of the game \"basics\". They gave you some offsets to skills and attributes and as long as you keep the drug(s) flowing you are fine. But if you stop this flow you get seriously wasted, starting from wandering randomly around if you want to walk/run to having a screen filled with more or less \"TV-noise\". Imagine you fight some strong mobs and your drugs wear off ...
Anyway, drugs have to fit the game scenario, in case of Neocron they fit very well. Many fantasy games have \"drugs\", too, although they are not counted as that (temporary stat changing potions ARE drugs). Let the game designers decide :)
