Answers to previous questions can be found in this thread (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26022.from1161132363;topicseen#msg290946).
Hey guys! (http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/3914/smilebp2.gif) I'm really sorry we are so behind this month with the Q&A. For those who haven't heard, there was a problem with our internal mailing list and the questions didn't go through for a really long time, so we weren't able to get most of the answers until recently. This month's Q&A will be for October and November both (it will close around this time next month) and we're going to be back on schedule in December. Apologies once more!
Introduction
[/size][/b]
All of PlaneShift players are constantly bursting with questions for the development team, and ever-hungry for those answers. Because it's often impossible for the team to browse through the forum to find good inquiries they can provide comments on, we're holding monthly Q&A sessions where players can ask questions about the game, and on the first of each month a thread full of answers will be posted in the Announcement section. (The next "Questions" thread will also have a link to previous answers.)
Now keep in mind that we have some rules for you to follow (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25024.0) when you are posting your questions, so make sure to ask something that you not only cannot find an answer to anywhere else, but are willing to wait a month/some weeks for. This may mean no posting questions about a bug that happened yesterday that you already know will be taken care of tomorrow. Any questions that break the rules will be deleted.
The "Questions" threads will close a couple of weeks before the end of the month so that the dev team can finalize their answers and really take the time to write informative replies, without more questions coming in. If you're late in posting your question, just sit tight until the next "Questions" thread will be opened.
Let's try to keep this thread to Q&As only, so no discussions. This will keep the thread easy to look through for the final selection. We're hoping both parties will have a lot of fun participating!
This thread will close on the 19th of November for the final selection. Get posting!

Is gay marriage supported in Yliakum?
Can I please have a free helmet? (jk)
What does it take to become a member of the settings team, as it isn't really a case of skill in software?
-
Shouldn't a normal variety of clothes be as important as the armor sets available ingame?
and once these clothes are available will they be customiseable?
will players have the choice to wear their normal 'clothing under and over their armor, if any or even a mix of both?
-
Why is there a poster of a Diaboli lady all over Hydlaa?
-
will oja ever have sewers?
-
When will the customisable chat window be implemeted :(
Will there be any sort of fast travel? If not will journey lengths be shorter?
When is the next town going to be implemented (rough guess will do :))
When will any new races be implemented?
-
Pay attention Croconil, a customizable chat window has already been developed. Some are already using it (self-built Planeshift), but it will be available for everyone in .17 release.
Just look at this post (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25965.0) in the Development Deliberation forum.
-
I would highly recommend against "when" questions, as mentioned in the Q&A rules. I could fill an entire thread myself with when's, but it would hardly be useful :}
-
What are the names of the current octarchs of each level?

Yeah i know, but I ment when its going to be implemented into actual game, not self build PS.
Ok Kary. Sorry! :D
Only pay attention to the second one :/
-
So, I see these nice hammers in Veja's smithy in the Arena, and I wonder.... would it be possible to provide this model for the other fine smiths of Hydlaa and Oja instead of the funny battle-axe thingy they currently have for a hammer model?

Croconil, he answered that question already too. Self-built Planeshift uses .16 on Laanx just like your binary. The .17 release is the next available release to everyone.

Does the rain or fog have any affect on the world in an appreciable way? Is it intended to affect gameplay or is it just for aesthetics? Is there another one of those Crafting Q&A Sessions planned in the near future? I just missed the last one although I must have read the log a dozen times, trying to find hidden meaning in the words :P Thanks, Karyuu.

Stonn, can you expand on the weather question a bit, so I can understand it fully? :] Do you wonder whether rain is ever going to do something beside "look pretty," and if so, can you give an example of another action?
-
Here's one:
Where's the temple of Talad going to be located? Since the Laanx temple is in Hydlaa, the capital of Yliakum, where is Talad going to have room to build his temple?
-

Mmm... like will flowers bloom, will things grow, will buckets fill up with water, will cobbler dwarves in green suits run around ranting about their pots of gold :) That kind of stuff
Oh oh, and I have a Kran question too: In the guide it mentions something like Krans breathe slower because of the oxygen bonds, allowing breathing underwater. Then it goes on to say they don't breathe so they can't drown ::| So is there breathing or not?

Can glyphs be destroyed RP-wise? In other words, can a mortal destroy them? And while we're at it, can glyphs be good or evil by themselves?
EDIT: Does all magic depend on glyphs? It would seem that through skills like La'har, Esteria, Antimagic and others there's room for different kinds of magic or spells. And can players make up glyphs that would suit spells not available yet in-game for RP purposes (maybe given certain creative limits and restrictions like checking with GMs or dev.team members first)? Thanks.
-
good or evil glyphs? they are azure, red, brown, ...
Tools are nor good or evil, their effect depends on the user. Glyphs don't manipulate the user, the link works the other way.
Am I wrong?
Q: Will there be a way to see with what we can interact (cursor change)? If not, will the minimum interaction with everything be to "look at"? ("You see nothing of interrest" like messages...)
-
well the mage in the shop seems to think the darkness glyph is evil ... but perhaps this comment counts as a spoiler and should be deleted.
-
I remember from another thread that someone had mentioned that there needs to be an NPC in the Hydlaa tavern behind the bar. I am wondering if that is still in the works or was even in the plan?
-
I have searched the forum unsuccessfully and I would like to know why was it decided to make hides unsellable in Hydlaa? Surely a town this large would have at least one person with a use for them. Does this mean that all leather goods are imported?
Also:
Why does the Death guardian buy almost everything but hides? Why does he buy anything at all? What use does he have for the things he buys? What is his purpose?
Why are Diamonds, Rubies and Emeralds considered raw materials (or are they items, I forget) and not gems? Surely an uncut gem is still a gem. Processed metals (stocks and ingots) are still sold as raw materials so it seems inconsistant.
If dark circle rings are going to be a fairly common drop will there be someone who will buy them such as a jeweler or enchanter?
Just a few things passing through my head.
EDIT
Another thing comes to mind.
Why are some specific items given earthly names? For instance apples could be called gribbolas and rats, svingers. Why rats anyway? They could be some kind of slug living in the sewers. I think it appropriate that items such as the forges and tables that have a specific use have names that are easily understood. They may not be called that by the inhabitants but for the purposes of clarity it is important that their function can be easily understood. Apples have no specific function they are one fruit out of any number and could easily be called something else with little confusion. I have seen apples in any number of games. I suppose it doesn't matter but then why gobbles not goblins? Not such a big change that it makes any real difference. I think such sufficiently generic things as bread and ale need not be changed but I would not expect to see a pilsner or a pumpernikel.
EDIT2
Has any thought been given to closing the loot window automatically when the character steps beyond the area where looting can occur?
EDIT3
Why does ten molten steel weigh ten times one steel stock when the stock is just the solid form of that same ten molten steel? Does the weight of the moltem steel include whatever implied container it is in?
EDIT4
Does a Krans tough skin act as an additional layer of armor when he wears chain over top of it or is it negated by this?

If there are 32 days in a month, does that mean there are 8 days in a week? also what are the names of the days?
-
Here's one:
Where's the temple of Talad going to be located? Since the Laanx temple is in Hydlaa, the capital of Yliakum, where is Talad going to have room to build his temple?
It is my understanding from the story line, that that large tower by the gates is/was the temple of talad, but was forgotten when the Laanx's followers came in.
-
Why are the Diamonds, Rubies, and Emeralds worth so little?
Why are there 24 hours in a Yliakum day?
Are Ulbernaughts mammals? They are furry but I hadnt notice any ummmmm other mammalian attributes ;)
As above, what are the other species? Rats and Clakers are obviously rodents and insects but Tefusang and Trepors?
Why are the rats and Clakers so big? is it the crystal suns influence? and would that mean there are some cute cuddly Ulbernaught equivalent on the surface?
-
What species is planned to be the next one to get it's own town?
If Diaboli constantly breed with other species, why are Ynnwns the only half-breed Diaboli we have access to?
-
Why are the Diamonds, Rubies, and Emeralds worth so little?
Because they are equally so common.
Why are there 24 hours in a Yliakum day?
I'm also interested in this.
In early medieval times there were 12 hours a day and at night they weren't counted. Furher, the day was shorter at winter and longer at summer and thus also the hours were shorter or longer. It was till the clock was invented and since this moment every hour was equal and there were 24 of them because also night was counted.
-
It is my understanding from the story line, that that large tower by the gates is/was the temple of talad, but was forgotten when the Laanx's followers came in.
No, this is the temple (http://www.planeshift.it/pix/pics/art/Kran_Temple.jpg)
What species is planned to be the next one to get it's own town?
I heard rumours about a Kran city, but those might not be true. Who knows ;)
-
Because they are equally so common.
When mining I seem to have much better success with gold than any of the gems
Edit - Another question
Who came up with the design of the eagles head? I think ive seen that elsewhere
-
It is my understanding from the story line, that that large tower by the gates is/was the temple of talad, but was forgotten when the Laanx's followers came in.
No, this is the temple (http://www.planeshift.it/pix/pics/art/Kran_Temple.jpg)
no thats a -kran- temple of talad, not the Yliakum temple of talad, thats just conceptual art.
-
Ah, must've been mistaken then :flowers:
-
The temple of Talad in North of the City though the gate you can't get through. It is built into the cave wall.
Now for my questions.
What, exactly, are progression points? I know they are what you use to purchase new skills and training. But what are they? How do you roleplay them? What is the explanation behind them? Where do you get them? And how do the NPCs know that you have them? How do the NPCs take them? Don’t they seem a whole lot like the orbs you collect in single player hack-n-slashers? Why are they only awarded after you make a kill, or finish whatever? PP are the main reason for killstealling. (ok, not a question., a fact).
In effect, isn’t it time to start thinking about replacing PP with a better system? And yes, I have one.

How come monsters don't die when falling off a cliff?
-
How come monsters don't die when falling off a cliff?
I think thats more of a, "its not finished yet" affect.
-
You are probably right.
-
You are probably right.
Yeah, we just don't have the parachute mesh and textures yet.
-
Just wondering about the plans for the weather in Yliakum..
Will there be a full blown/random weather system?
Are there plans for weather affecting how things work? (ex. no rain for a long time makes it hard to farm etc..)
Once again, i appreciate the thread and the idea. Thanks a lot!

Okay here is mine. When all this stuff is implemented into the game and we all have very high rep characters, will we have to restart if we want new clothes/race looks/appearence? I do not want to be one of the dwarfs that all look the same. Could you do this?
-
To the above, this is still testing, when we have all sorts of fancy options the characters will be reset.....
As for my question, why do we have bodies in the Death Realm? Or do we? If we don't, then why do we have fall damage, how can we die in the Realm of the Dead?
-
will trias ever have markings such as the date they were "minted" and\or an octarch's head on it? Thus allowing the possibility of in game coin-collections? :p
-
Once flight is available, will Klyros be able to use crossbows and other ranged weapons in flight(To make some kind of small scale "air strike")?
-
Thank you for all your questions! We'll now start the selection process and you will see an Answers thread pop up on the first of next month :) If you were late with a question, hang tight - once the Answers thread is made, a new Q&A will be available here for you to post in.
