Title: "Futureshift"
Post by: Monketh on October 27, 2006, 03:08:50 am
I personally prefer science-fiction over fantasy, in most cases.  Out of curiousity, I'd like to gauge the community's reaction to the following idea:
When Planeshift as an MMORPG engine matures, how would you feel about a futuristic MMORPG based on the engine (using new art, story, etc.)?
Would you migrate there from PS?
What if they decided to fork it, or did not cooperate?

Well, I've never really been into sci-fi, but I'm always willing to give it a try. As for moving there from PS, not so sure... I'm here for the community, not the game, so I suppose it would depend a lot on the circumstances.

I think I'd be outraged to an extent. Wouldn't play most likely. I like a mythological ancient kind of setting with swords, bucklers, and magic. It's all basically the same formula when you put something in science fiction circumstances, but just from an aesthetical view I like Planeshift as it is.

Good point Kixie, if PS actually turned into a futuristic game, I'd be rather ticked. I'm a wizard, not a mad scientist. I sort of doubt that that'll happen, though, which is why it's easy to  be fairly relaxed about the concept right now.

PS becoming a sci-fi game isn't what I was proposing (that'll never happen.)
I love sci-fi though, so an opensource  science-fiction MMORPG would definitely pull me in, and probably away from here.

Maybe not sci-fi, but just seeing it jump into the future a few hundred/thousand years would be nice.

Honestly, science-fiction isn't my thing, though I have learned to never say never. I might sign up and try it. Might even like it. All depends on what you have built and if it entertains me. This is what planeshift does for me. Planeshift inspires me to write stories for my character, and work with others to create stories with them. What draws me back most isn't just the game, it is the community. They go together and I think that plays a big part in my interest with planeshift. So far I am happy with where I am at.

Hi!

I'm big sci-fi fan and I would like to play nice game based on PS engine. If you start now I presume first samples (demos) will be ready in a year or two ;) It's really huge amout of work. Though you can make it if you have a team of about ten people eager to work on it few days a week.
