Title: Does PlaneShift compile on FreeBSD?
Post by: Malfini on November 09, 2006, 07:27:53 am
Hello, I normally play PlaneShift on a machine with Windows installed (I use it to play most games). However I am going to try to compile it on one of my FreeBSD systems. The machine I am going to try to compile it on is running FreeBSD 6.1. Has anyone tried to do this? Is it known whether or not the PSclient or PSserver will compile on FreeBSD? I know FreeBSD has optional Linux and SVR4 ABI support and that most of the time FreeBSD can run programs compiled for Linux faster or as fast as a Linux machine can run them. However I would need to install a zillion GNU/Linux library files of the right version to do this and since I'm running FreeBSD and have many of the same library packages installed (just a native FreeBSD version) this would be kinda foolish. So I am going to try to compile my own for FreeBSD. Thank you in advance. :)

Yes it should build on FreeBSD. There is even a port available for it: http://www.freshports.org/games/planeshift/ (http://www.freshports.org/games/planeshift/).

On the #planeshift-build IRC channel you can contact acardenas.

Thank you very much. I checked the FreeBSD ports collection not too long ago and PlaneShift was not in there. They must have added it since I last looked for it in the ports collection. But I do see that it is in /usr/ports/games/planeshift now. I'm happy that someone made a PlaneShift port for FreeBSD. Thanks again :).
