Title: On the topic of: Maps and Getting Around [My story]
Post by: Amber Flare on November 12, 2006, 04:01:10 am
Okay dokey, I am a newbie to Planeshift. I currently have three characters: one for my brother, and two others; one I use mainly for roleplaying. I logged into the game, I figured out how to kill rats quite fast, got a progression point and also figured out how to loot. The good thing is, I already knew how to roleplay so I at least felt at home in some way. I ran around a bit, frustrated at finding these flat closed doors all around me and not being able to open them in anyway. I contantly walked up to doors and typed "/picklock", but nothing happened.

I then found out that my cat character was in its own city, and that I should make a journey to some other one. So I set off, excited at locating the doors to the outside. I got attacked by a rogue and died, going to the death realm. It took me a while to get out, I got helped to halfway by a kind player. Once I got out, I tried to get to Hydlaa(? i hope thats it) again, I managed but I had no idea where to go. I managed to locate the Laanx temple and library. They were the only useful buildings I found - and I found the sewers.

Currently I am a little newbie characters, with no weapons (hoping to get some), roleplaying experience and wanting to locate certain shops. I picked up the game interface pretty quickly - I know how to train and talk to npcs (I had to ask a few where things were but sometimes got the response: "Sorry, I don't understand that - repeat again?". Tried asking real people, but they don't seem to care much, busy doing something. I am fed up, I desperatly need a map, i wish there was one already inputed into the game. Is there any way I can find out wheres where?

Gah. Post in reply if you have answers and questions.

it is a map in the library at the wall down the stairs its not  good but its the only one so far.

If its to hard read you have to explore and remeber.

1stly welcome to the game and the forums.

2nd, closed doors cant be opened, lock picking is not an implemented skill.

3rd, no maps in this game im affraid, i can get irritating but you pick up where things are soon enough (I know it seems daunting for new players)

4th, if you want some advice or help with getting around, or anything for that matter, a lot of people are willing and eager to help. Check out the guild forums for some helpful guilds. (I managed to not advertise my guild ;) )

lockpicking does work.

there just isn't anything but what's in the npc room that is able to be picked is all.

I hear Elemental Light is quite heplful.

And finding out where to go is a lot of the fun, just don't expect too much of yourself and learn a couple of landmarks.  The  Northern tower (Tower of Laanx I believe it is, seeing as the shape at the top represent the temple) is a handy landmark because you can see it from anywhere.

The best thing to do is to hook up with someone in game and try to explore the world together. There are people who will help you out; the difficulty is in finding them.

As a fellow newbie from the smae location, you have pretty much described my own story word for word. Yes, Maps would be helpful, but then some of the surprise is gone. Im so excited still at all the wonderful places I have yet to see, all the sneaky little nooks and crannies that have yet to be explored. And all of them found on my own, with no help form anyone. You will get lost, especially on the plains, you will get annoyed at times. Dont worry, you will find your way. This is a wonderful world. Explore.
