Not sure if it's a bug, but I can't think of any better explaination.
I mine enough iron and coal for 4 steel stocks. I do all the processes needed to make a knife. After the server crashes, there are finally two open spaces on the smith table. I put the blade and handle on the table and press combine. After all this work to make a knife, what do I get? If things made sense I would get a knife, but Instead, I get a (censorship beep)ing weapon repair kit. Now, maybe the game is in an alternate reality, but still, how dis a knife handle connected to a knife blade not a knife?
-
That makes perfect sence... ;)
No I don't have a clue. It is a funny bug though!
-
You need 5 steel stocks to make a knife if I remember correctly. Try using one more on the blade.
-
No, three was definately enough for the blade. I got it to work for everythinh before the combination of the two items.
-
2 for the blade and 2 for the handle will get you a weapon repair kit
3 for the blade and 2 for the handle will make a dagger
experiment for other weapons

No, I know from experience that two for the handle is a sword handle. One makes a knife handle. A knife blade (three) and a knife handle (one) should make a knife.
-
well, it doesn't, add one more for the blade
-
I had three for the blade already, and I guarentee you that two is a sword handle.
-
As far as I know a three steel blade will always make you a repair kit. Yes one steel for knife handle. Two steel for a sword handle. I am not sure it is a bug but I am sure it is a waste of resources when you can buy repair kits for 40 trias from Harnquist or Trasok.
-
it might be a waste of resources but how else can you train your blacksmith skill? so far making long swords is profitable, in a way, takes too much time compared with arena fighting, and since you have to get your own materials...
and yes, two for swords handle and only one for dagger handle, my mistake, sorry
-
I was saying making repair kits is a waste of resources. Perhaps though if you make particularly good quality repair kits they will work better than store bought ones. I have never heard of anyone trying this and don't know if it is even possible. You can also make a repair kit by making a short sword with too little steel in the blade I believe.
-
im curious, when you are making a weapon you take the stock to the anvil 1st, that makes your stock into a blade and a handle, then oyu take to the table. how can a blade and a handle turn into a weapon repair kit? Are you sure your leaving it long enough? and not taking it out as a 'dagger kit'? Ive never made daggers but I know you can ruin an SS by taking it out when its a "Short Sword Kit"
-
I am not sure but it could be you make a rasp, the blade being too rough for anything but honing a real weapon.

I have to agree with iceddragons here. I believe that there is a bug. This is how it breaks down:
3 stocks=knife alpha blade
4 stocks=dagger alpha blade
1 stock= knife handle
Now, if knife making (as that is the name of the skill involved) is supposed to work like sword making, then different blades can be fitted into a standard handle. So, at the final assembly step, you have:
1 dagger blade + 1 knife handle = 1 dagger (This works)
...and ...
1 knife blade + 1 knife handle should give you a knife, but it does not at this time. Hence a bug.

Complete the Shield Making Quest from Trasok in Ojaveda, then make lots of Iron Stocks. Using the Forge upstairs at Trasoks and the Anvil between the Forge and the Furnace, heat up the iron stocks in the Forge and hammer them on the Anvil to make Shield Components... this will give you Practice Points towards ranking up your Blacksmith Skill! :)
To actually assemble the Shield Components into Shields is another story, and involves use of the Smithy Table at Harnquists!

yepp, that's weapon making and shields making, hard skills to train, takes more time to max and ppl seem to be more interested in making high quality weapons anyway.
