Title: Communication is awkward right now
Post by: Exiled on November 14, 2006, 10:50:49 am
1.  The talking window is extremely awkward.  6 different screens makes it very difficult to communicate  in a timely way.  All text should stream in in the lower left corner, and custom color coded and filtered to the player's desires.

Spoken Words should appear over the players heads -- that should be an option.

Players names should appear over their heads --as an option

2.  We all look the same. We should be able to dye our leather armor and have clothing and basically make ourselves unique.

I have no idea how difficult it is to make a game, so if my suggestions are over the top I apologize.

--Enjoying the game so far,

Lee

not over the top, but all have been discussed before. Please read the Wishlist rules thread.

1) That will be more customiseable in the next release.  Also, check your in game options in regards to color options.
2) Spoken words over head: lots of discussion on that already
3) Player names hide/show: Check your in game options
4) Looking the same: that will be solved in the future when there is more time to add the little things, when the project is more "complete".  Also, the 2d/3d teams aren't that big, and they are already busy with many other spiffy stuff.

Thank You for the reply
I had read the rules prior to posting.   :-[ I had hoped that my suggestions were constructive.

I would love to know what other projects the Planeshift Team is working on or has completed so I could try them.  I am very impressed by PS (especially being free)  :woot:

The only screen that matters is the main screen.  The rest of the screens deal with OOC dialogues and so are in a different category of less immediate importance.

I don't really agree to that... Example:

That would really be easier if you had a Main screen where everything is displayed and to have the possibility to swich the different channels on and off. Then everyone is free to define what is interesting for him and what isn't...

And i, too would appreciate the option to display local chat as floating text over people's head, as it makes it easier to see which character is actually speaking, and not which "name" is...
And it makes it easier to realize that someone is actually speaking - I got adressed quite some times at the beginning without realizing it, because I had accidentally disabled the chat screen or was busy with myself and this made me very sorry for that person - especially if i could have helped him...

And, _please_, add something like a "world" channel, where everyone can talk with everyone, which would lead to less noob questions asked at the same time but in different places and would show all noobs that there are many people playing this game and chatting and asking questions. Is it much easier to take part in an existing discussion than start one by oneself and it makes it much easier to integrate in the community...

I hope I did not go too far away from the original post... ;)

The main chat flashes when something's going on.

I just click the train button like crazy until the green bar doesn't get any bigger.

Fact is IC is more important than OOC. Thats just how it is.

If you know that, its easy to switch to the appropriate screen. But if you'r a noob - as i am, and everyone was - you _don't_ know.
Don't worry. You'll get the hang of it eventually.  :)

I would be very very strongly against this and I think I'm right in saying that the majority of players would be. Think of how OOC it is and all the needless chit chat that could be done in tells.

Back in Molecular Blue, the /shout channel was global and the situation was a mess. There was spam, OOC and completely off-topic conversations, and we couldn't wait to get rid of it in CB. Global chat channels breed too much chaos to bring them back into the game, and it shouldn't be too hard (nor too much of a bother) to talk to people around you. There's always the Help tab for newbie questions as well.

I don't think the System messages are ooc... And well, if I talk to NPC, I do it IC...

I just found it useful in other MMORPGs - and everyone is free to intervene if it's getting to much ooc... And it isn't more ooc than the guild channel... why should guild members be able to communicate no matter where they are? (I'm not in a guild, so I didn't use it this far... So correct me, if it isn't true...)
But if you already tried it, and it was such a desaster, then I won't convince anybody anyways ;)...

I just think it's very hard to start with PS and try to find something to make it easier for noobs...
I know PS isn't intended to be easy, but scaring away new players because they don't get started can't be the goal either...

so long,
Ened

PS: Always look on the Noob side of life...
