That would be great if we can announce our event without doing /shout which is use by critical moment normally. (even if players are passing through) . what are you thinking about this idea? ???
-
What events are you talking about? Sounds terribly OOC.
-
about wedding, or rock party or Party at tavern and so on
-
There are now the message boards on the forum for this sort of thing: Hydlaa (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25642.0) & Ojaveda (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26287.0)

A rather OOC channel, as mentioned above me - use the forums or RP shout your announcements :)
-
Heh look Karyuu acknowledged me! I must be sort of smart then! Go me!
Futher this doesn't really constitute a post in wish list. A one sentance idea should not be posted.
-
Actually, I have asked for this. Why? Let me explain it.
Go ingame right now. Do /who. Read the number of people there. Now go to the forum and look at people online. The answer as to 'why' there needs to be an ingame (and yes, ooc) message board should be obvious. ith active, or semi active RP event, or continuing ‘story’ type RPs listed with a short definition of each, and the 'link' to the proper thread on the forum, where most of the info can be found.
I have tried the /shout-forum method, and found it to be interruptive, rude, clumsy, narrow, and stupid. It does not work. It would be so much easier to just bring up a menu with RPs, GM or player, and look through it for something interesting that your character may have 'heard' about.
I have talked to many very good RPers who do not even go to the forums at all. Even when I asked that they do to know more about the Cold RP I was doing, they were reluctant.
Another thing is that there are many RPs that are posted in the forum that die before they are two days old.
I have an entire system of support for this that I have thought out, but do not have the time, nor want to post it right now.
So yes, it is a very good idea. The 'events' he pointed to are very simple examples. I tend to think on a grander scale.
-
No, this is not a good idea. We don't need yet another OOC channel. What we need is an in-game message board, which is a brilliant idea that will be realized in the future :)
-
I asked for a menu much like the guild windows. RP's you were watching would notify you if something changed. This would not be an IC board you have to go up and read, nor would it be a channel like that idiot auction tab. It would be a tool to bring players together in the game.
But then, player RPs don't really matter anyways.
*edit* I see no mention of the thing at the Bronze Doors anywhere on the forum. Odd that. How many players missed out because there was not any mention that -something- -might- happen at a certain time?

:( :( Oh, really?! :( :(
Then, tell me: Why does no "Plaza Times" newspaper exist anymore? -- Because people were not at all interested in it? Because it requires too much time and efforts to manage it?
If you see any chance to support it being available again, please contact Verrliit (here or in the Dark Arts forums).

On the bright side your ideas are good utm
on the dark side, many nonrp'ers would abuse it, imagine the guildwindow thingy, and you could make announcements for events and such. This would be abused with as an example "Noob want weapons pls" or "Looking for party to slay ulbers for quest" the problem is that if gm's could delete it there aren't always gm's online and they have enough work already I think. Also, if it were moderated (meaning that it owuld have to be viewed by a gm and validated first) it would cause a line when no gm's are online and the event won't be carried through, if someone is online they may again have too much time. ANd if some of the above examples were in the line an event announced an hour before in there wouldn't get there because of this line. They can be announced a day before yes, but if some spontaneous big fight occurs, two people agreeing IC'ly to meet some place to fight about something it won't make it. If you announce this a day before it will be terribly ooc and prescripted.
I hope you understand this, I'm tired and did homework til 2 am or something giving me 4 hours of sleep, that's why my post might be a bit hard to understand, but I am always open for questions"
-
Unexpected events can be planned.
And when you need to announce a wedding ceremorny you can send invites, go around to gather friends. All this can easely be done with the existing features.
If it's only about having an ingame message board, a post office, ... I think there should be a few threads around there.

Peacer, thought of all that, and solved all of it. (the following is not to Peacer)
This is about an ooc active RP list with basic info and contacts. Half the game is 'played' in ooc group and guild, so don't give me any arguements crying about telling people about what RPs are going on in an ooc manner.
This idiocy about leaving helpfull features out because some n00b might abuse it is really starting to get on my nerves. Espeacially with auction already in place. If everyone is so damn afraid of noobs, then make it harder for them to get into the game in the first place, or teach them something as they do. Or how about this, GIVE them money to start out with, and have their first message TELL them where they can find the shops to buy what they want. Better yet, let them chose basic equipment in Creation, so we don't have to hear it at all. Before some moron comes in here and asks how you can have these things before you start the game, carefully read the following 'life events'.
Father gave you his old sword.
Mother give you her set of daggers.
Grandfather gave you the heirloom pickaxe.
You found an old woodaxe on your way out of your village.
Etc.
Sorry for going off topic, but freaking hell, if there is a problem with an idea or feature because of noobs, SOLVE IT. It is not that hard. Think about how it could be done before trying to think of why it should not be done, even IF it should not be done.

Yes, wonderful!
...
Even better: There need to be more different ways of "income" (money and experience) which don't rely on killing. And I am ready to help those who want to create it. As far as my more and more rare spare time allows that.
But still, an in-game announcement of events - managed by players - already existed and disappeared. Probably not only once.
If you see any chance to support us, please help recreating the newspapers. Yes, plural - we have more than one town.
Proglin started the Plaza Times once (with support of several SCoY members). Verrliit wanted to take the direction when Proglin couldn't keep it alive anymore. Anyone who would enjoy to see this institution again - please support us!

Disregarding "Life Events" and Pre-game n00b preparation.
UtM, that idea is genius!
1.) A person decides to create a roleplay event. It is defined similarly to a guild.
1B.) Players join the event (by invitation or what have you to prevent griefing,) and can post in that event's "forum."
1C.) Multiple threads can exist for branching storylines.
1D.) It can be viewed and saved from the interweb, but only added or subtracted from in-game. The founder is King.
2.) A time-sensitive pop-up or message can be triggered for now-happening events for participants.
3.) This will require trustworthy players (characters are a different story.) You know why.
Edit: 4.) A number of other features (daily summaries, event leader's briefing, etc.) could be added or made to work through this system. They'd be like subscribing to a blog.
Edit2: Which makes me wonder: would a wiki system outside of the game be more useful before this is implemented than a forum? Especially for inidividual characters? The inter-linking could be helpful.

What is this whole concept of RP event? a theatrical show?
Then yes the troup needs to set the costumes, the casting and learn their roles.
That's where a publlic board ingame could be useful not only for casting actors but also to send the tickets.
A rather easy way could be to include a mozilla viewer in the client to access a secured and moderated board.
Maybe different boards for public annoucements, like shows to come but also more private ones for guilds.
-
Hadfael, simply put, no. That could be one form of and RP event, but not the only way. 'Event' in this case is used to define something or anything happening ingame to some degree of being organized.. It could be a single event, such as a party, or storytelling gathering, or it could be a grand quest taking place over many weeks.
The ingame ooc RP announcement window would have categories as to what kind of RP 'event' it was, so as to make browsing them easier. The simplest and shortest category would be 'Rumors', where players just post what they heard, or other may have heard. This is easily explained how our characters may have heard something that the player did not RP in the game. Our characters exist while we are not playing (not in person, but in 'spirit'), so may hear things while we are offline. So, they may well have heard these rumors, or heard about some of the roleplay 'events' going on. It is up to the player to decide just what they do know.
-
This may be a good short-term solution, but it will not work in the long-run. As PS expands, there will be tons of events, many of them garbage. It will be a pain to sift through. And then of course, it's totally OOC. If you legitimately hear rumor of an event, that's fine, but the "it's a rumor" excuse can only be used so many times.
No, in-game message boards (a lot of them) are the way to go. It's more realistic, and accomplishes the goal of in-game communication. The big issue in PS now is that there are not enough events. I know: I've said this a million times and done nothing to fix it. We're recruiting more GMs and working on running more events, but for now, everyone's just going to have to be patient.
-
Since we've directed away from an events "channel," I took the liberty to polish my idea and direct it to another thread.

I have a suggestion which would solve the problem in the short term (though it could become a big problem itself if too many events were occurring on a daily basis):
Use the petition system to ask for an announcement to be made giving date, time and place; the announcement can then be made on the appropriate day in the MOTD. That way everyone knows something is going to happen when they log in.
eg.
MOTD
Anonymous is holding a party today to celebrate his birthday.
Meet in Brado's Tavern, Ojaveda at 5.30pm gmt
Anyone wishing to take part in an event being run by Anonymous Guild
Should gather in the Plaza at 6.30pm gmt today
I would have thought that this is exactly how Message of the Day should be used instead of seeing the same thing for weeks on end, and by going through the petition system you avoid abuse. :D
