Title: Possible bug with updater 1.1.1.1 in linux
Post by: bilbous on November 20, 2006, 04:23:18 am
I have been running the updater this afternoon while posting and other stuff just to check if the update is done. For a while the update machines were unreachable but they seem to be back on-line now. There is of course no update yet. What has been happening is that it finds no new update and then checks for corrupt files. It then downloads a 5 meg file named "up: which fails after it downloads. I've seen this before and it is not what I am talking about at the moment. The last time I tried to run the updater I saw again no update and tried to cancel the "up" file download using the cancel button. This button did nothing even though I pressed it repeatedly both before the dl started and during. I would have expected it to abort the download at the very least. I would have posted it to the bug tracker but wanted to first find out if this is known behaviour and or not a bug. I did not see any mention of it on the bugtracker.

The updater is quite bugged in linux because it was written for windows and basically had a few hacks added to make it work on linux. I'll try and get someone to take a look after this update, assuming we don't just make a new updater. :)

could always use Cha0s's Java Updater (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=14416.msg162973#msg162973)

For the record, that is the only thing I've noticed about it, it worked fine for the last update.

Yes, the only problem is that the gui is very slow to respond, and in some cases not at all. Running in --auto mode works perfectly.

I'll remember in the future, hopefully, that the Tech Assist forums are [only|mainly] for Windows users as Mac and Linux have their own forums.

Doesn't make too much difference really, except that you're going to get a quicker response if you post in this forum :) I don't read the other tech support ones than often, and other linux users are more likely to see the thread here than in the others.
