Can this be the thread for when the new mac version is ready or updates about such? It would seem to me that this would be a good place for that rather than sifting through the many other threads..
Just a thought
Matt

um check out the third sticky duly entitled mac client status :whistling:
-
Thanks, but ummm nnoting has been posted? I kind of thought that was the one for the old one...
So how long does this usually take?
Not trying to rush, just trying to get an idea.
Thanks,
Matt

there's no point in placing a scheduled date for the mac release. between now and then is about as close as we can guess. The devs probably only have a vague idea themselves. That's the joy of devlopement - you have no idea what's going to happen from time to time ;D. Rememmber the devs (and mac dev/s) are under no compulsion to do anything. Just be thankful that someone has taken the time to compile a mac port of the game so let them take their sweet time and do a good job. \\o//
On a side note, what's happened to Cha0s? I've been a bit out of the loop myself but those updated status threads/posts don't seem to be updated all that frequently ::|
and it would be rather nice if someone went around posting the link to the mac torrent file all over the forums so it's impossible to miss.
to actually answer you question from my limited experience it usually takes 3 or 4 days for the mac release to come out - usually 2 or 3 days after the windows and linux releases and anywhere up to and over a week when things don't go to plan. Who know's if all goes to plan maybe I can change that sometime next year if i have the time :-X
-
Thanks for the info... Yes I was wondering 3 or 4 days? a couple of months?? I didn't have any idea...
I am very happy that someone out there will compile it and let us play...
Thanks to whoever you kind people are. : )

It has been posted on the planeshift website that the MAC OSX client will be available in a few days (2 upwards). It is true that all us Mac lovers should be patient and grateful to those kind people  spending their hours to help non windows users. Just keep checking the forums and planeshift website for news. \\o//
:offtopic:On a different note does anyone have any ideas or news on when and if another server will be available in the next year?
;D

This si a lie. I have him chained up in my celler with the sole purpose of coding Mac releases of Planeshift which i then play for a little while to test out and then leave for a long time until the next release at which point i have this process repeated.
-
I'm stalling a little while I try to stomp out some bugs in code I wrote for a word-wrapping text editing widget which cause some people to crash when the GUI loads.
-
completely understandable
dfryer can you answer my post in "Development Deliberation" ?
Help - PS 0.3.0.17 - Mac build

Thank you Dfryer and ChaOs for your efforts to get the mac platform working with a new version.
Also, it is under this mac forum that one will get the notice that the new version is working. I often find the main PS website to lag
in their updating of information.
:)
-
:beta: I eagerly await the 0.3.017 as I just talked a freind into downloading it on his mac.
Thank you Chaos and Dfryer for your hard work and diligence in keeping mac planeshift worthy.
-
hmm.. someone told me they were not updating the mac client for this release... he said he had connections to the developers.. this true?
-
Not at all :P dfryer will be putting together a mac client as soon as he has time.
-
Hello,
it is soooooooo hard to wait soooooo long for us mac users! ;)
-
Hence i download vega strike to pass the time and found it was actually quite fun.
And if I get bored of that I can switch one of the other games i have on my drive. There are a fair few of them.
-
With some effort you can compile it yourself. It is actually not that hard, and a fairly detailed description is found on the following thread, and it's references...
http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26531.0
I compiled it a couple of days ago, and it works nicely. \\o//

I have no idea how to compile anything ::| I want to play PS now! :'( The least they could do is update the mac client sticky with the appropriate date or something
-
How do you plan to update a stick with a release date which doesnt exist?
-
No, with the part that says "Current status as of Thursday November 23rd, 2006" part.
-
/me holds her side and moans about the pain from not being able to play PS.
:'(
-
It's actually SO hard to not freak out because I want to play it so bad. >:( I feel your pain. I tried to play other MMORPG's for Mac but it just doesn't compare to PS. Planeshift

I have to agree. PS, even in it's pre-Alpha stage, looks 20 times better than any completed mac "mmorpg".
Just a quick question for any mac gurus out there: Is there anyway I can set my uptader.jar file to run by itself. Say, like on a weekly basis?
Favorite passtime: finding more efficient ways to be lazy.

I couldn't agree more, PS is the best MMORPG out there :P Maybe because the developers don't hurry with the code, take their time to do it right ::)
I think you should have a look at crontab (try "man crontab" in Terminal, or google it), haven't tried it for Mac, but in my pre-Mac period, I used it on Linux and it worked real nice :)

I think it might be possible to also add it into iCal. Create an event and have it repeat every month or week or whatever. Under alarm set it to open file and hopefully it will be able to run the updater.jar
Either that or the script option.
Haven't checked it out.
It might be an idea to check with Cha0s or a dev as sometimes the updater can break your copy of PS especially if you've downloaded the mac client and the update server hasn't been updated :P

I am itching with anticipation!!!!!
I just can't wait :woot:
