The new client is not available for the updater yet, only via BitTorrent: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26438.0

first thing, dont triple post.  its rude.  use the modify button if know ones posted after you.

second.  you can't use the updater that comes with version .16 to update to .17 becuase the mirrors aren't set up yet.  If you want to play, wait until they are. or unistall .16, go download .17 using bittorent, install that and then play.

Edit:  theres also this now aparently: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26344.0

If you start the client and it says "0.3.017" in the upper left corner, you have the latest version and don't need to run the updater. If not, you haven't yet executed the .exe you downloaded via bittorrent - do it. If all you have is a file named "PlaneShift_CBV0.3.017.exe.torrent", you haven't downloaded the new client yet. Use bittorrent to download it, then install it, run it, and play.

why do he and everybody else need bittorrent? I always wonder. There are loads of torrent clients. Like Azureus or uTorrent. I'm not even convinced if bittorrent is best or most intuitive.
From all people who are connected to me, there is noone with bittorent client.

Bittorrent is the name of the protocol, it is also the name of the original client. I think the request to use bittorrent refers to the former and not the latter although it is easy to see how it can be confused. I myself use BitTornado.

aye, tis taking about the protocol.  although I do have a working copy of the original release of the bit torrent program when the whole torrent thing came out some where on a back up disk.  my how the programs have evolved since then.  I love open source.  :)
