on occasion, i go to a trainer that i have used before and they wont let me see skills to train.. how can i over come this?

It could be lag - try closing/reopening the Skills window again several times. Or it could be that the specific trainer has reached his/her max, and you need to find the next :]

trainers get maxxed out? what?? hows that work?

Well, not all trainers train to the same skill or attribute level. Some for example will only train Strength to say, 90, and then you'll have to find the one that can train you higher. NPCs are not all-knowing teachers, but regular people who have different skills to share :]

A Skill might have levels that run from 0 or 1 up to 130 maximum... There can be several NPC Trainers in that Skill, and in different locations of Yliakum as well. You might find an NPC in the Arena who trains that skill from 0 - 40 level, and there may also be another trainer in East Hydlaa who trains that Skill from level 25 - 50 or even one in the Fortress who trains it from level 5 - 15.... the whole purpose of this is to get your character out and about and exploring or asking other characters they meet if they might know who else trains this Skill.
PlaneShift is a game for interaction with others, and not for solo adventuring against the game-code's AI :)
