Title: Q&A: Post Your Questions! (December)
Post by: Karyuu on December 04, 2006, 12:11:14 am
Answers to previous questions can be found in this thread (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26652.0)

Introduction
All of PlaneShift players are constantly bursting with questions for the development team, and ever-hungry for those answers. Because it's often impossible for the team to browse through the forum to find good inquiries they can provide comments on, we're holding monthly Q&A sessions where players can ask questions about the game, and on the first of each month a thread full of answers will be posted in the Announcement section. (The next "Questions" thread will also have a link to previous answers.)

Now keep in mind that we have some rules for you to follow (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25024.0) when you are posting your questions, so make sure to ask something that you not only cannot find an answer to anywhere else, but are willing to wait a month/some weeks for. This may mean no posting questions about a bug that happened yesterday that you already know will be taken care of tomorrow. Any questions that break the rules will be deleted.

The "Questions" threads will close a couple of weeks before the end of the month so that the dev team can finalize their answers and really take the time to write informative replies, without more questions coming in. If you're late in posting your question, just sit tight until the next "Questions" thread will be opened.

Let's try to keep this thread to Q&As only, so no discussions. This will keep the thread easy to look through for the final selection. We're hoping both parties will have a lot of fun participating!

This thread will close on the 25th of December for the final selection. Get posting!

What's the state of the religions in Yikium?  Are Taladism(?) and Lannaxism(?) broken up into different denominations or are they each unified churches?  And how are they organized?  Are the churches complated hierarchies like the Catholic Church, barely organised like Islam, or somewhere in between?

I know this is for the long distant future, but what are the current plans\ideas of how a player govenment will run? Will it work like a series of check boxes and scroll bars to change certain laws and "tax rates"?

How did the God's become god's?

Were they ever human?
Will they live infinitely?

Can they have children?

~~Datruth

Edit: Changed LIVED to Live

Extending Datruth question...

Does the PS universe have(at least theoretically) the concept of "godhood"(mortals becoming gods)?

Are glyphs intended give the caster only one spell each? Or will they have different spells that may be casted using through different manners the same glyph? Can the most knowledgeable mages(or will they be able to) combine glyphs from opposing and/or not aligned ways on spellcasting because of their superior knowledge on the ways?

Will Xachas get damage(sunburn) from walking without protection during sunlight? If so, how will it work? Will it be sometimes fatal?  What kind of protections may be given?

Are the various ways of magic practiced by those who believe in them? But if they're followers, was there a leader of each way? Like a god of fire or god of darkness that led others to follow it's way?

Why do body parts seem to be the only things blocking?  Wouldn't it make sense that not every blow lands on the target but instead some, if not most,  are blocked by their adversaries weapon(s)?

how can we tell if we can kill a monster ? , I mean it's VERY annoying to die and waste 40 minutes on running out of the dead realm (which I think was a bad idea) , so if we know we can't kill that monster we won't try.
will you implant a system that we can recognize by color or description if we are able to kill that monster ? (it will REALLY help).

mb2love, If you have a high enough intellect I believe, viewing the description of the mob, at the bottom it will tell you if you will be able to kill it easily, or if you will likely die, etc.  Granted I don't think that system really takes in all factors like weapon skills and stuff, but it seems to work for the most part.

Kran don't have females, so why in the character creating we still need to choose father and mother ? (if we know they don't have males/females , they are all the same) , shouldn't the character creation be different for kranes ?

^^^ Wow, never thought of that...

Anyway, In the 'Overview' section of the main website, it mentions something about people coming into Yliakum via "portals from other worlds". What's the deal with that?

Though it has been confirmed that there will never be Alliance chat, what about the ability to form sub-guilds? More and more guilds use the system where they have a fighting, a trading and crafting/mining and or intelligence branch, sometimes even in separate guilds. Having subguilds within a guild and having the ability to have for example one guild window for your guild and one chat window for the overlapping guild would be great. As there isn't going to be alliance chat, what is the standpoint of the developers on this kind of guildchat?

I ignore your attempted to insult me ("mb2love, If you have a high enough intellect") , and replay , NO when I'm viewing a description I DO NOT see if I am able to kill a mob. (maybe I need some skill for that option to appear).

That was no insult - if your character has a high Intelligence, you will see at the bottom of your target's description whether or not it will be a difficult or easy fight.

In the arena there are large statues, a couple have a floating sphere near outstretched hands.  Is the floating piece of the statue held up with magic (not asking if the statue is supposed to be a mage)?  If so, who cast the spell?  Also, when masonry is implemented will we have the ability to use magic in a similar fashion?

I've seen that every race likes a different type of food, and I've read that if not now but in the future the food will give you some boosts but
will there be a point in the game were you will be HAVE to eat food to survive/live ? , if so how will it be done when you will be offline ?

I would like to see (if I missed - very sorry, then I looked in the wrong places) which developers are reliable for which part of development, who should be contacted in case of a bug fixing contribution. -- I know, during the last year I learned a few developers, but I am not yet sure who in which department is a good "first contact", and who in which department will finally decide. And it must have happened several times that I told a few developers about fixes I contributed, but I did not see them applied until today.

Pending and forgotten fixes for known issues are a quite concerning issue from my point of view. It shows to me that the project planning and communication inside departments, and between departments, may not work at its optimum.

The bugtracker is a tool which should help to avoid that. But I am not really convinced that it is the optimal tool at the moment. A reason could, of course, be that I only see half of the features - I hope that registered developers can use its features successfully to manage and schedule tasks.

P.S.:   for this public topic!

What animals are present in Yliakum?
A list of animals, starting from small birds - through wild ground animals - monsters - and ending on animals used by people to produce wool, milk and for transporting ways.
What are their physical abilities, habbits, appearance, is their anatomy and body balanced in the right way?
A short information, something what everybody knows, a common knowledge. Detailed information is probably going to be in in-game books, like it is already.

Will mounts be  put ingame later on down the line?
Secondly...
How will this be handled? Race spoecific or general animals with mountable features?
and finnally
if mounts are included what would a Kran ride?

"Uuuhmm... is that a boulder... on the back of a butterfly?"

Well Ok, over exaggeration but you see what I mean.

^^
from what ive gathered we are having mounts
anyways.
The Progresssion points system is that really going to stay.
if it is it will need to be enhanced ALOT atm it is so unrealistic.
Have the devs got any ideas for future Skill enhancement

1. how many/what kind of cities\towns are you planing to make in the future ? (1-3 years).
2. there are a lot of empty places in the game, like only grass for "miles" and some trees , how do you plan to fill those places ?
3. it's very hard to get from city to city as we don't have roads, are you planing to make some roads too ?

thanks in advance.

Thank you for all your questions! We'll now start the selection process and you will see an Answers thread pop up on the first of next month (http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9527/happycbighn2.gif) If you were late with a question, hang tight - once the Answers thread is made, a new Q&A will be available here for you to post in.

Merry Christmas!
