There are no penalties upon dying at this point in time. The only irritation is getting out of the Death Realm (http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6695/happyfaicxk6.gif)

Yeah, have fun. You may even want to consider doing something reckless so you can enjoy looking at what happens when you die (some people consider it the most innovative part of the game.)

I've played in a MUD that had (mostly) unrestricted PK (meaning if you started massacring PCs for no good reason, you could be banned) and the capability of permadeath. People hardly ever ventured into the dungeons, and focused on crafting instead. Death was taken very seriously and people would look for the murderers in order to avenge them. Here, you can afford to take death a little more light-heartedly. :)

... For the time being. Death will be a much bigger deal in the future. The aim is realism after all.

The true place that the Death Realm has in the fabric of life in Yliakum, is, for me, summed up in these two ways:

There are Skills that cannot be trained to a further level without visiting the DR...
There are Quests given out by certain NPCs which cannot be continued to completion without visiting the DR either.
