Title: spells
Post by: Vrin on December 10, 2006, 08:53:23 pm
how about a spellcrafting skill.  Where players can make there own glyphs.  Have a set list on each level of what a player can do or create for a glyph.

How about simple armours  and helmets bought at NPC or produced by character? The same is with glyphs. The reason why it isn't happening now is.
1) game is not developed enough
2) game try to enforce different things like RP for example, by breaking realism. Very long to explain.

So yeah, if you are going to propose something, first know why this isn;t the way ow you like, wrte aout it and then write how you are going to fix it. If you have no idea, better don't write at all.

i'm sorry I thought this was a wish list, yes I might not be able to code or anything.  I was just stating something I never saw before.

bah, making a game is not only about coding... whatever, it looks you didn't read the wish list rules anyway. But in one you are right, this isn't duplicate topic.

Glyphs are not made, but found in nature.

Quote from: Talad
Glyphs are the base of every spell. They can be found in nature with no real explanation - no one know exactly why they form, but when some type of energy is strongly present in one place, then a glyph can appear. Glyphs can appear as marks on very different materials from a leaf to the fur of an animal, and usually of any type of rock. Powerful wizards knows where and how to extract glyphs from nature, and they usually transfer this power to magical black stones, that are small enough to carry around.

When was the last time anyone found a glyph in nature? Perhaps glyph recognition could be a trainable skill. It seems to me that anything supposedly found anywhere in general and nowhere in particular they sure are hard to find.

Seeing as how "powerful wizards" are involved in glyph retrieval, it could be that the more training/knowledge you have in your way, the closer you may get to finding natural glyphs by yourself. I don't think there's a need for a separate skill, personally.

Very powerfull wizards should be able to sense the power of certain glyphs, for example a wizard powerfull in Red Way would be able to sense Red Way glyphs. The more powerfull the glyph, the more rare they are. When he finds one the purpose of the glyph is not yet determined. The glyph would need to go through a lengthy process of refinement by a skillled wizard before the glyph in it's final shape can be purified to suit it owner's needs and be used in a spell.

So this is all theoretical talk now or is any of that implimented?

This is not implemented yet - our magic system needs more work before finding natural glyphs is a possibility. Talad's explanation is meant to clarify the origins of the glyphs themselves and give hints on what may be available in the future.

Ok. That is what I thought. I still think it might be a good idea for a skill but no biggie.
