I just wanted to mention that it is the little details in this game that endear it to me. For instance, the Readme file in the new download for Macintosh contains this most classic of disclaimers. It may have been present in earlier versions, but I think it deserves a mention.

"We may, at our discretion, torture your character, wipe your character, or publicly mock your character as necessary. Be prepared. Wear duct tape."  :D

[@Googles: Ask about in game for other monsters to kill. Also, we need to determine if that is just happening to you, to other Mac users as well, or if it is generally happening when people try to loot items. An issue like that needs its own post in either the Mac forum, or the technical help forum, and should have any error codes that you are getting with the crash. Try not to tag items like that on to existing threads, such as this case. I will try to confirm that when I am back in game.]

Hm, aside from the Bronze Doors issue, I'm assuming this update has all (or most) of the Mac-specific bug fixes that were planned for this for this version?

Just thought I'd check.   :)

THANKS SO MUCH!!! But I'm having a bit of a problem. When I log in and see my character, it says "A new update is available!" in blue letters, is that normal? and I've noticed that it crashes a LOT, some guy tried to trade me and I accepted and I crashed. And I'm near the magic shop and I crashes within the first 5 minutes of play  ???

I'm completely new to Planeshift so my advice may not be the best, but: I downloaded the latest version and updated it – didn't work; re-installed it and didn't update – works fine.

One of the golden rules about new releases in Planeshift seems to be "When you wish to update, never run the updater" :p Hmm indeed it often makes the whole thing even worse than before you used it. So don't run the updater unless you're told by a developper here, I think it's wiser anyway.
About the pixelling problem and the pssetup crash, i have the same here, and I'm warmly looking forward to being given any help about this :) Thanks a lot.

My recent problems are that PSclient will not initiate startup when I click it, nor will updater or setup. When I click them they show up in the dock for a second then stop and shuts back down. Now I downloaded originaly from the DMG that Janner posted; had the same problem then deleted it and got the bittorrent v.0.3.017. Still same problem. So then remembering Chaos had a .jar updater I downloaded the one for OSX 10.3 and ran that. Everything updated at least as far as the .jar was concerned because I ran it twice to make sure. Now, psclient and pssetup are still acting the same as before but now the psupdater trys to open when clicked on then I get the unexpectantly quit window. Perhaps it's a problem with OSX 10.3 or with other softwares on my comp? Who knows, but here is the console log-

Wow people, the instructions were pretty clear, DO NOT RUN THE UPDATERS! any of them, it breaks it :'(
I have not given a full test yet, but so far I have noticed that the world scrolls a lot smoother but the mouse does not, in fact it's a little worse.
Also the names above the characters just appear and dissapear, but that could be a general problem. I really must check.
Other than that it seems to be ok for the moment.

G4,
OS 10.4.8
1GB ram
Dual 1.3 Ghz processor
2MB L3 Cache per processor
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro, AGP, 128MB VRAM

Extra: All my problems were my own fault. I forgot to check the settings in-game. Done now and working  \\o//

Yes, I understand that. Perhaps I was not clear enough in my post. All the problems mentioned in the first part of my earlyer post was happening after downloading the client from the the link Janner gave as well as bittorrent.
Before I even considered trying an update on either I was geting no responce. i.e. click on psclient, pssetup ect. only brought it up momentaraly in my dock then quiting the action. Anywho, I'm happy it is at least working on other macs at this point. I just need to find out what i need to do to get mine operational.

From what I can see in the other posts, the graphic garbling and PSsetup-not-staying-open seem isolated to Intel Macs.  Perhaps this is why you haven't run into the issue?

Er, seeding takes as long as you keep your torrent client running :] You share either until you close the client, or manually tell it to stop sharing.

@skooty: I could not tell if you were running an Intel Mac or not. If you are running an Intel Mac then there may be something else going on that I have no clue about... but this should just be working for you. But, anyway...

You might wish to run the standard maintenance operations using the Disk Utility first (Repair Disk and then Repair Permissions). Then go into the System Preferences and look at the Software Update section to see if there are any updates that apply to your system, install any that are critical (OS or security updates). Then create a new account, making sure that account is allowed to administer the machine. Log out and login to that new account (if you already have an admin account then just be sure you are logged in as the admin). Then mount the .dmg file from the download and recopy it onto your desktop and try running it from there.

Come to think of it, I have seen this sort of behavior in other applications when the font caches on the machine get corrupted. I am not sure if this would apply to Planeshift, but it could since there are fonts being used by the program. But that can cause strange crash behavior in applications like what is being described by Skooty. Applications (free) that I have used for clearing the font cache files are Onyx and Tweak Freak. It can be done manually from the terminal window, but please check for instructions on that from the Apple support site.

Note: When applications crash under OS X the crash reporter logs the conditions. Either you will get a window that has a Report button on it, which will display the crash. Or you can go to /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/ and see if there exists a file called something like psclient.crash.log. Important: This file can be VERY large, but in my experience it is the header of the file plus the data lines between "Thread 0 Crashed" and "Thread 1 Crashed" that counts. If you try everything and are still getting the crash, look at this report and paste the valid part of it that I just mentioned up here so we can see it. Please do not post the entire crash file, as it can be very large, as I said above. Cha0s or dfryer please post if I am incorrect about the data in that report file, for it seems that I have never gotten anything useful from beyond the Thread 0 Crashed section of the report.

Hopefully that made some kind of sense. But, urg, what a glut of tripe, sorry for the mongo posting, there is some small chance it might help someone.

I'm in a similar situation... Running the game with relight on allows me to play though, but it's annoying having to do that every time. I have a G5 Mac though, not an Intel.

I think it has something to do with the CEL thing.

Also post a Console log (the main one, i.e. console.log). Planeshift thankfully outputs tons of debug messages, so the console log can be very useful in getting right to the problem without having to use the crash log. :)

A few bugs regarding buying and selling stuff on the new mac client.

I'm not sure what her name is, but one of the NPCs near the new player spawn point is able to buy/sell food.  When I try to sell apples to her, or just open the buy/sell window, the client crashes.

Just wondering if anyone knows the remedy to this.  ::|

I seem to have found this thread a little too late. or the warning about the bronze doors anyhow.
I tempted fate, see how the land lies and  i got the not responding  message in the force quit menu.
I got in game though, so I'm happy No giant horned helms for me though :(

Character I was playing was Boaal. If anyone has the power to remove him from his position of bugdom, please do.

Now that this version of PS eventually works well on my computer, it seems like it's gonna be difficult to play, since most of the commands i use make the game crash - for example /loot, and i cannot open my buddy list or the guild window either (and there still are these texturing problems...). I wonder what i'm supposed to do to keep entertained if it turns out to be an ordeal to have the client stay open more than five minutes... The problem is that i love this game, so i won't just leave it and say "too bad". So the best i can do is to wait the next release, i guess?

Not sure what the talk is about a bug and the Bronze Doors, I assume that is the new town in the direction where Oja used to be?  In any case, I have been at that town for months (not playing much, just popping in now and again to see if anything changed at that town).

The one crashing bug I can repeat is trying to edit my characters description (saw that mentioned earlier in this thread), never tried before so I don't know if this is new or old, but clicking on the modify description button and then clicking on my description brings a crash everytime (I might be pressing the backspace key to attempt to edit the description).

Has anyone running the Mac version of Planeshift edited their description?  How about with 0.3.017.

For me the crash only occurs when I click in the text-area itself. A workaround I've found is to click out of the game momentarily (I play in a window) and then click back into the box. That works 90% of the time for me.
