Does it not seem OOC to shout in main about the Death Realm and how one can have fun there?

Aye, and they all reappear laughing and singing. Death is so fun in Yliakum!

Aye, all who participated should take a moment to reflect on the meaning of death in our land. Laanx or Talad might strike any of us down for coming to accept the drudgery of the Death Realm as a fact of our mundane lives, and actually having the audacity to not cower in fear at the thought of going there, or *gasp* do anything other than trying to get out.

In fact, we should add a thread to the wishlist and INSIST that when our characters die in Yliakum  the character data, tria, silverweave, and all, be flushed from the database forever, and we must create a new character to roleplay if we want back in. Oh, and of course that character would not even so much as be aware of the friends the dead character knew. Sound good? No? Awe, come now, there has to be consequences for running up to a big, furry, ugly, beastie with huge claws and poking it with a saber, it wouldn't be good RP, otherwise.

Until they implement that request, I'd say that maybe it's not so awful for some of us to actually not mind going to such a foreboding place on purpose occasionally, or otherwise coming to view the DR with any sense of familiarity, acquiescence, or perhaps even acceptance.

But then maybe I'm being a being a bad RP'er?

I couldn't really pick out the sarcasm there. Are you saying that We should in an RP way not mind going to the death realm on purpose? Please say your not.

Probably because my comments were meant to be more probative in nature than pointed.

And what if I were? Why would that be so awful? The MOTD when one logs in sometimes encourages us to try to complete the some quests. If there were a quest [and for non-spoiler purposes - I'm not saying there is] that required us to, say, present the Death Guardian with a pound of rotten meat and he then asked us to get some clacker meat and come back when that's done-- should we not try to do this quest because wanting to going to the DR is OOC?

In fact, I recall reading an interview with Talad from about a year ago, where he envisioned having a DR, once entirely built-out,  where some people could actually choose live their entire existence in the DR and have plenty of things to do. Should we then speculate that these damned souls should never be permitted to RP anything approximating fun?

What I'm asking is, considering that the DR is, in fact, a reality that most citizens of Yliakum encounter at least occasionally (though I suppose it is possible some might RP a character that never _ever_ has had a trip there, that does not seem to be the way it goes for most) why would they not view it as a normal, albeit  unpleasant, but clearly non-permanent, part of their life? Is it inconceivable that an athletic person wishing to demonstrate their physical prowess, someone desperate for the tria that a prize pot offers, or someone seeking to complete a task for a local merchant might actually desire to go to the DR intentionally? I think perhaps that it is very realistic that people would endure any manner of hardship or physical discomfort if the long-term payoff was sufficient to motivate them. No?

No, no, no! The Death Realm is ment to be incredibly hard to get out of! Thats completely against the settings! Very, very few people should have returned from the Death Realm. The only reason it is so small is becuse of accidental glitches causing death. No one that understands the settings and is not a hero of amazing reknown should even attemt to claim to have been to the death realm and back.

Quote from: The Settings
3.2.4. Death Realm
The Death Realm is a mystery as few have returned from it.

well.......that was a "bit" of a moan. Yeah it was OOC and yes OOC shouts for the even where in [] so no harm done and all who entered had fun...which is what a game is about?..

Any race in the death realm would be obviously OOC, those mad enough to kill themselves for fun would not be around, but locked in  :P

And I guess many felt and died again... specially on the infamous "Bridge of Lag"

I heard a lot of shouts. At least five or six. The only part in []s was the time of the event implying that the rest was IC. 'Death Realm race' sounded a little bit off.

I actually think that bit of the setting is a bit odd really. No matter how large you make the DR you are always going to have people get out eventually, or just stop playing. I cant envision a way to make nOObs not run up to that friendly looking rogue and get his head chopped off. Or test to see if he really will need scraping off the floor when jumping from the large tower. It just is inevitable that if you create a game where people can die that they will die. I would guess that every player in this game will have died at some point. How do they RP getting out of the DR if its so difficult?

I have yet to die IC. I died once or twice from glitches and once in a deul that I later discovered was totaly OOC.

"Normal" people (peasants) cannot envision getting out of the DR. Us players can do it because we're supposed to be heroes 'n all - and if your character is of the more mundane type and you knowingly roleplay this way, the Death Realm would be final if you really die - as in get killed legitimately and in-character. There are many people who have given their characters such a finality, and gotten out only through a lot of work IC.

There are ways to prevent newbies from dying outright - and this is once all the bugs are taken care of. Right now it's difficult to work the DR as it is meant to be into your stories, but it's not impossible, and will be quite realizable in the future.
