Title: Light issues.
Post by: Nikodemus on December 17, 2006, 07:27:22 pm
(http://crimsonorder.freepgs.com/things/day-shodow.jpg)(http://crimsonorder.freepgs.com/things/night-shadow.jpg)
At day and at night.
The shadows are too strong. So strong that there where is shadow i see 0.0.0 RBG, it is black. It shouldn't be like that because normally the light is reflecting from surfaces and there where objects drop shadow we see only a bit darker. At night it should be very dark, yet after closer examinations the details should be visible (like doors). At the day everything is lighter and so the surfaces covered by shadow. They should never be black.
What is the problem? It wasn't like that in previous releases.
Whole hydlaa looks like that.
Also, most streets in Jayose Hydlaa are black, while the areas around them not necessary
The whole area around the road and roads itself to the Jayose Hydlaa gate from outside the city is completly black too.

I have seen things like that when I have had the client open too long and changed scenes too many times. Rebooting usually fixes it.

Nikodemus try running the PlaneShift client (psclient) with the -fullbright option. That will disable shadows.

Example:

psclient -fullbright

yeah, but i want to see the shadows, but in their normal form.
thnx anyway.
I was hoping it is known issue and there is some work undergoing. It was good once. Why it had to change, when the support was ok back then?
Is it good for BugTracker?

Have you tried the loooong process of a relight?  I barely see shadows and I don't have -fullbright.  (Maybe I do and I just never really noticed).   Have not had any of these blackness issues that so many seem to be complaining about so I don't think its a bug.  It just might be the way some graphics cards are handling the graphics.  *shrug*  A relight seems like a likely fix.

Telighting though PS setup gets stuck on leading map.
Yeah its another thing which isnt working on my comp for a while and once did.

There are some maps i can perform relight by using CS walktest aplication. Most gets stuck. But with these i can, it isnt permanent effect anyway, as after closing the walktest and reopening the map it again needs relighting. (btw, there the light look even worse and everything is just black most of the time)

Did you report anywhere which kind of graphic card you have, and which driver version you are running?

i didn't do any separate bug report as i was looking for help there first. If anybody read the bugs here is one where my graohics card is Bug #2219 (http://www.hydlaa.com/bugtracker/bug.php?op=show&bugid=2219&pos=19)
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 64MB Drivers the most recent from INVIDIA site. But i don't think that installing new drivers does anything additional to my card. Who is going to make new features for 5 years old hardware?

I gues it's time for bug report.
What amaizes me is why this was working fine once. Is CS and PS updated and cleaned the way, that old stuff, like support for old graphics cards is threw away? Really wrong, but i gues i shouldn't teach anyone.
