Title: Developers Diary?
Post by: Dirk McDirk Pants on February 28, 2003, 06:15:04 pm
I think having a \"Update forum would be great. Have it so nobody but admin. can post. And use it to let people know of the games progress (like a developers Diary) and how far until completion of each phase.

I think this would be a good idea because I think alot of people look to the forums sto find out this information annhow, and it would make it easier on the entire community to know any major developments.

the main news site should be directly linked with this \'update\' forum to.
So anything that gets posted in the \'update\' forum automatically appears on the main news page on the site.

Excellent idea.
I think there should just be a seperate page, and each Dev has a page with what they decide to put on there
i.e.

Planeshift Main Page -> Dev Diary -> Venge

2/27/03-
Minor bugs in game.... fixing... hoping to have game out soon...

^ more or less detailed than that if he wishes. but you get the idea

I think a PlaneShift \'.plan\' file would be a good addition to the website.

It is where an individual developer posts what they have been doing and where they are going in the project.  Kind of like a dev \"blog\".  Popularized by John Carmack of Id (Quake , Doom, etc.)  Ideally, you would have a dev bio page with a link to each \'.plan\'.  That way, if someone interested would like to know what\'s going on in a specific area, they just check the related devs .plan (similarly to Voldengrath comment).
