I installed version 0.3.017 today and can't login at all. Registration worked fine for both the server and here. My modem shows absolutely NO activity when the client is loaded. I have no firewalls and meet the system requirement. It appears the client is trying to use the wrong network connection to reach the internet. It appears to try my home network and not my internet connection. Is there a way to specify which connection to use?
-
Why do you say exactly that "it appears to be trying to use the wrong connection"? Can you ping laanx.fragnetics.com?
-
If you are properly connected to the internet, and your (windows) firewall is properly set-up, it should work.
And PS is not trying to find the server on your LAN, why would it ;)
-
I can connect via IE, mozilla, etc. to the server site and pinging works fine. When the client loads my router to my home network blinks but not my satelite modem. The updater seemed to have no problem however. It shows server failure, but there is no transmit/receive activity on my modem which means it never tried?
-
Ah, I thought you had a 56k modem at first, but apparently you have a more advanced one.
You need to go to the router's settings and forward Planeshifts port (7777) to your pc.
On how to do that, please look here (http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm)

Ah here is where it get's tricky, my router does not go to the internet, it only goes to my home network. My modem is direct connected through USB, I've had other programs do this "misguessing" on connections before. My main PC is the one I'm trying to connect with, all other pc's are off at the moment. Does XP give it's connections a hidden priority? Possibly my latency is so high that the client just plain gives up before recieving what it needs to confirm/deny the server status.
-
umm. why on earth that configuration... aside from perhaps your isp doesn't have eth capable modems, or requires specialized software...
you may have to get a cheap box and use it as your gateway computer like you are using yours and move your comp to behind the router.
-
Yeah the satelite modems often have accelerator software. The ethernet connection is actually just a preference, but seeing as how the modem can't connect directly to the router, I ended up with the above configuration. Also since my router is a wireless access point, I like to avoid any direct wireless route to internet path. I live in a rural area where modems can't get over about 15k and DSL is just not ever going to happen. Mayby I'll have to upgrade my modem to a dedicated server model.
-
If you're connecting to the internet via a pc with Internet Connectin Sharing, you should probably forward the port on that PC?
And try to forward the port anyway in your router, won't harm you.

I disconnected everything, disabled all network connections except my modem and rebooted. Now the client causes modem activity when loading but still shows server failure. Apparently PS has a network connection preference. Much like some of the other online RPG's there should be a network setup feature to allow changes or a "copy internet settings from Explorer?" button. Now I think the problem is either the server is genuinely down or the latency is somehow interfering. The updater's "Check game server" reports "Server didn't respond". Used a web utility to get this address for laanx.fragnetics.com "210.193.49.103" Used same utility and got a 907ms ping time. Used windows XP ping utility and got success with an average round trip of 855ms. Is this beyond the parameters of the PS connection system?
-
if you disabled local area connection for your nic and left the usb active. then there is no preference to select. the usb in the only connection out.
you may want to find out if your isp is blocking on port 7777.
"ping laanx.fragnetics.com" at the command prompt will resolve it if things are working right you should get 210.193.49.103 for the ip, but try it by name first.

just a thought but check the /data/servers.xml file it shoul read like this
<serverlist>
<server name="Fragnetics" ip="laanx.fragnetics.com" port="7777" />
</serverlist>
-
/data/servers.xml file checks out o.k. Confirmed with my isp that port 7777 is not blocked. Confirmed latency error. Not possible to correct error. Thanks to everyone for their input.
