Hello,
I Just finished the "Polyuntri needs a key" quest and was just about to select my reward --> a Light or Darkness glyph *whoops server crash!*
After relogin I found out I missed my reward and my quest was finished and the keyhandler dagger was gone too.
Do I really need to redo the whole quest? I did the quest! So will I end up with no reward and nobody that can help me. This is a strange situation and I demand my earned glyph! I understand the server does crash now and then but gm's must be able to help me out and restore these errors.
I know they are bound to rules but the rules must be redefined --- I talked to Mektar and a bit to Quizzel but I hope this forum topic can change this rule for the good.

solution: get quest again.
the rules have been decided. there is _very_ little that many will be able to say to resolve this. you have spoken to the gms and their decision is final.
-
It was not a gms desicion. They where bound by a rule they dont like!
quote:
(22:14:58) You tell Mektar: Can you help me?
(22:15:37) Mektar tells you: with what?
(22:16:18) Sliss says: After a server crash I lost the ability to get one of the 2 glyphs of Polyuntri Stevald
(22:16:35) You tell Mektar: After a server crash I lost the ability to get one of the 2 glyphs of Polyuntri Stevald
(22:17:12) You tell Mektar: I hasd the reward window in front of me
(22:17:35) Mektar tells you: I'm sorry but no Gm can help you with that
(22:17:47) Mektar tells you: we can't replace items
(22:19:13) You tell Mektar: Can you give me the dagger key that was needed to get the glyphs?
(22:19:38) Mektar tells you: no, sorry. It is against policy.
(22:20:53) You tell Mektar: How can that be? It is not my fault the server crashed really... If this didnt help I would have a light or darkness glyph
(22:21:21) Mektar tells you: I'm sorry I don't make the rules.
(22:21:40) You tell Mektar: I need to speak to who then?
(22:22:11) Mektar tells you: Probably talad himself.
(22:22:31) Mektar tells you: if you want though you can talk to Caarrie the other GM that is on right now
(22:23:36) You tell Mektar: ... they have the same rules as you I guess
(22:23:46) Mektar tells you: indeed
(22:24:19) You tell Mektar: So what is the point?
(22:25:18) Mektar tells you: There isn't, I'm sorry
(22:25:24) You tell Mektar: Is it not a policy to help peiople that got into trouble after a server crash??
(22:26:30) Mektar tells you: GM's use to give items to people when they lost them but since then they are no longer permitted to do so because people took advantage of the GM's trust and lied to the GM's to get things they shouldn't have had
(22:26:47) Mektar tells you: I can't help you with this
(22:27:25) You tell Mektar: ok thx
(22:27:46) Mektar tells you: welcome, sorry that i can't help
(22:29:13) You tell Mektar: .. I can prove by the way I don,t lie.. via my logs
(22:36:52) Mektar tells you: unfortunately it doesn't matter, I believe you I just can't replace your item. #1 Gm's can no longer spawn items only developers can now #2 We are not allowed to replace items character lose
(22:38:04) Mektar tells you: I have already talked to the team about this, trust me I don't like it either but it's the rules.
(22:40:17) You tell quizzle: I understood you are a dev. I have the following problem. I just ended the quest from Polyuntri with the dagger key and was about to select my reward (a glyph) when the server crashed. Is there a way I can get my earned glyph?
(22:41:27) Quizzle tells you: sorry i cannot restore items, you can probably get the quest again . . .
(22:42:21) You tell Mektar: Thanks for the effort. I think the rule is not correct for these situations and I hate doing the whole quest again as I just ended it
(22:42:55) Mektar tells you: I've had to do quests over again because of similar situations when I'm playing on my normal character.
(22:43:09) Mektar tells you: welcome
(22:44:34) You tell Mektar: I must say I really demand my glyph even if it takes me to talad. I desurved that at least not this grappy rule because peiople abused it
(22:45:02) You tell Mektar: sorry for my english ;-)
(22:46:37) Mektar tells you: the people that abused things ruined things for all of us. It is unfortunate but it is done now. Maybe someday things will change
As you can see even GM's are not happy with this situation. Isn't it time to change things back to normal then?
-
First off you are not to take gm issues to the forum and second off gms dont have to agree with the rules we just have to follow the rules.
So for the last time no you will not get your glyph from a gm or from a developer.

Sliss you are playing a game in testing, I feel for you in your loss. I know it is a long quest. There is no way around the fact, that if you want your glyph, you will have to get the quest again.
Good luck and enjoy.

I know this is a test server so why the heck is it so difficult to give something 'back' to players as it is 'JUST' a test server. On the one side you act as if the game is 'live' but on the other if people complain you shuffle them away by saying it is just a test server. Well that is not a real sportive and honnest way of ruling a game that suppose to give fun and help you out in testing.
If it is just a testing serer why make such a deal out of it and give poor players their stuff back. I mean If you find out you have been abused by a player you just kick him from the game.
Well... I meight just stop playing because of this stupid topic as I am getting more and more angry.
-
I'm sorry if this causes you to leave the game. However, there is absolutely no way to verify that a player has indeed done a quest and has indeed "legitimately" lost an item. Logs and screenshots prove nothing - it is just as easy to fake them as it is to sell an item and claim that you lost it.
This isn't a big deal. Bugs happen, and it sometimes inconveniences you. Put a smile on your face, shake your head, and move on.
Mektar is the only GM on the team that I am aware of (and part of) that seems to dislike this rule. This is not the whole-hearted opinion of the GM team.

Hmmm. Thank you all for your answers btw.
I stop complaining but I understand this whole thing stops because players abuse things.
Is it not a good thing to log all events on the server so you just can check? You will then see ALL events a person did. like selling or losing etc. and more easily filter out abusers.
I will do the quest again but I hate to do it

The work put into this game is voluntary, and you are paying nothing for it. Except for maybe Ring of the Past, items in Planeshift are worth nothing in real world currency. Enjoy your indefinitely free trial while it lasts; I don't see any reason to make a big deal about it.

A bit of a pointless comment don't you think?

That's actually a very good point. What do you guys care if occasionally a dishonest person comes along that has the nerve to bold-face lie to a GM to get a single item just to save him a few weeks of mindless money-making? Not only would it happen fairly rarely, but even if it does, it doesn't really effect anyone or anything. It would effect the game world as much as if someone just got really lucky and found a really cool item. Ultimately, it would just help to test more things. That's really what we are, right? Testers? And you're always saying that our characters will be wiped eventually anyway. It's not like WoW, where things like this would permanently harm a community of 7 million...
Personally, it strikes me as a little contradictory. You praise the community up and down, yet don't have the slightest trust in it yourselves. This 'policy' hurts far more genuine players than it does hinder dishonest ones. Where's the harm in giving us the benefit of the doubt, especially in Alpha phase?

The object of the game is not necessarily to complete the quests and gain items/levels, but to crash the server and find bugs in it by doing so. Therefore doing the same quest many times is essential for us to know if it works.

"Crash the server" is an objective? I somehow doubt that is the object, the object is to find problems and identify them crashing the server alone would tell the PS team nothing. And doing the same quest many times wouldn’t help "us"* as if the quest has been done once the repetition of the same tasks shouldn't unearth any problems that weren’t found first time round.
*"us"? It sounds almost like you are trying to pass yourself of as a dev team member although I guess that wasn't your intention.
-
Everytime the server crashes, a dump is made, which will let the devs figure out what caused it to crash, so yes, crashes do tell devs something.

I meant players/advisors. I kind've want to know if a quest doesn't work, because they haven't always. There was a time when only two of them worked.
-
hehehehe, keep playing it gets better every day
sliss alas, we do not have the time or resources to care if every player did or did not earn an item fairly.
the complaints to an all vulunteer team have little sway. the rule is a good rule whose intent is to spare our attention for more important matters.
We cannot and further likely do not want to "micro-manage" the petty annoyances of the playerbase.
Laanx loves you,

got to agree with them all, giving you your item would allow many a player to just ask for something they didnt work for.. dont want to do the questy again? then get some money.. and pay for the glyphs.. there.. all solved.. i to have had so many things happen.. i get angry.. but unlike you.. i under stand that &&&& happens.. and its only a &&&&*** game... you dont see me asking for a telipot to hyldaa, or db when i "fall to the end of the world" do you? &&&& no!.. get over it.. either do the quest again.., get a friend to do it for you, or pay for the glyph..
