Title: pKrime 3d FanArt (I'm back... I hope...)

Hi everybody, this is my first 3d artwork and I give it to Yliakum... Yes, it would be my charachter in the game, but she looks quite common! Comments and critiques are welcome!

I always adore first posts made in the Fan Art section (http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9527/happycbighn2.gif) This is really beautiful. What tools did you use?

My only "critique" would be the following: is she a Ynnwn? They just have dark red skin tones. Beyond that though, I'm very eager to see this thread grow. Welcome to the boards!

Thanks! "Make Human" provided the basic model, I used blender for editing and Gimp for 2D stuff... anything else? Yeah, runnin on Ubuntu I did it 100% free! :)

D'OH! Should have read documentation first... I didn't think at skin color restrictions at all 'cos that's how I figured she was... me fool!

I really did little in that: I checked wikipedia for pteranodon and found this page

copied the image and used it as alpha map on a plane (with darker tones where bones are)... I didn't expect so much!

That is beautiful, really excellent. I'd love to see something like this used as a background for the PS installer.

You should start doing 3D work in the Fan-Fanart project... That needs to come back.

Only I think it'll take time: I checked your description, and I never drew a cat in my life, so I'll need a lot of documentation and time for modelling. It'll be good for learning to do better.

For now you have  a directory in my hd!

Info added to Siteri Facts File!... what about this markings? Do you leave it to my fancy or do you prefer to send some description/sketches?

My roadmap is as follows:
tomorrow, start documentation, next week start modelling, I plan to finish about in middle January (or last decade, actually I don't know how much it can take).

Siteri is a detailed and particular carachter, I think I'll enjoy it! :)

I'll leave it up to you how they look exactly, but they would be green and blue, and sort of curvy and branching, like Elvish writing in the Tolkien books.

I'd ask you to put in her staff too, but I forgot the description of it and since I can't play right now, I can't check it.

pKrime, could you possibly do a render of that same scene with the "Edge" Button activated (on the left side in the "Render" Buttonset), with the "Eint" value (after clicking on the "Edge Settings" button) set to something between 120-150?

Would love to see that, :D

Edit: After some messing on my side, I figured that a Eint value between 40 and 80 would look better

Weird experiment you have in mind! :)

As could be expected, edge does not affect pteros and landscape, wich are images... Hair is particle, so it is unedged too (I didn't know edger ignores particles, but it could be supposed)...

No edges on the tower... why? I don't know for certain, I think it's because of the illumination used: I didn't use raytracing, so I added weak lamps to simulate refraction of light bouncing back from ground and surrounding objects... briefly, the tower is sorrounded by lamps, so there's no side opposite to lamp to be edged. (This is only my personal explanation, however, maybe I'm wrong).

The Head is edged quite good, it's a good mesh (imported from Make Human, the free pooser),  the suite is a mess that can hardly be explained (bad sculptor: me!) and I can't say why  armor supports are edged their own.

Definitely, when willing to edge one should have it in mind since he begins modeling the scene... I hope these edge experience wasn't too poor for you... let me know!

Totally awesome.

Well, some of the tower's edges _are_ shown with Eint on 40. Actually the Eint 2 Render gives to model a weird mechanic look. All in all it is not what I expected, but still awesome.

Edit:
After a closer look: Did you use normal mapping on the tower?

I did, it was too flat... still I'm not happy with the tower as it is, I'm workin on it.

It can't, a game has different needs than a still image, so many of the "tricks" used, as well as most of the modeling and mapping can't be ported into the game... however "Crystal Space", planeshift graphic engine, gives much room to future improvements of the game, I still haven't studied it, but it seems many things can be done (I mostly miss the shadows under characters).

I hardly understand "webish" language, OMG could be "Oh My God" and I'm pretty sure "<3" is a heart... Well I'm happy if you liked it, if you didn then don't worry: we can still be friends! :D

edit: an english friend told me what "wicked" means, everything's clear now... Thanks!

You're right, I did very little in modelling, being more interested in compositing and lighting... well, if you think art should be all selfmade, I perfectly understand (and partly share) your reasons.

Next work sheduled is about an enky, no wizard will be of any help now! :D

Well the few experiences I have got from working with MakeHuman has taught me that the generated mesh, while being high quality and a good resource, is by no means a full compilation ready to render...

If the game could be tweaked to thgat kind of resolution. Then the game would become a still image.

That or you would have to use nasa's computers to run it.

Yeah, it's taking time... I modeled the head, that was the most freaking part! now I'm loosing much time on background in order to give our cat a cool scenery, but I'm wondering if would be better to post a simplest image until I finish it, so you can even give hints to make it better... what about the guild pendant? I couldn't find much infos about your guild, so I thought to use a wolf head or something like that... let me know!

Well, many days have passed and many things happened... I won't bother you with everything I've been busy in, but Siteri picture project had to be slided in time.

Recently I could turn back to it, I think her body it's quite complete...
