I now get a message when I try to log in, saying that I don't have the right version, and to run the updater. But, the updater corrupts all my files. So, there's no way to play the game.
...Such is the life of a Mac user.
-
i feel so bad for you mac users, i'd freak out.... luckly when mac came out, they needed all compatible thigns to mac and those were limited, so since then i've looked down on mac
hope you guys arent gone for a week this time

Nothing worthwhile in life is easy.

Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Bloody Christmas :'(
-
The last update introduced a bunch of conditions that needed to be addressed, and it appears like the team is addressing them. Right on!
-
Well, it never worked for me. I downloaded it four times and not even a bouncing icon in my dock. This sorta feels like Yliakum's Betty Ford's Center. Let's hope this gets worked out soon.

Aaaaaarr. Same for me since today :o Can't play anymore :'(

Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Bloody Christmas :'(
Sticks a band aid on the wound, *smiles* chin up, we still have the best of it, less problems and the like.
Always look on the bright side of life.

Bolad, slumped to his knees and hunched over like a broken Enki doll, lifts his head from his rough dwarven hands and looks, tears still welling in his eyes, into the reassuring smile on Janners face. he sees a glimmer of hope, maybe life isn't all that bad after all. Feeling much more the brave dwarf he was before the portal closed on him, he rises from his knees and stands, back straight, as tall as any dwarf can possibly stand. Suddenly, after all that kneeling, he feels the excruciating sensation of cramp surge through the calf of his left leg. Howling with the pain he hops off into the darkness of a passageway leading from the gate where the portal should be standing. Janner just grins and settles back down to wait for the portal to reopen.
-
So this is a normal occurence for Mac users then? Shame. I've been running without any problems up to now. I absolutely love the game; hope it's back up soon. :'(
-
The Mac client is a port of the code project from Windows, so it does take longer. And they do not have all the hardware they need, or the resources... but I think they do a good job. I have had a lot of seamless playing time, and I do other things during the updates.
-
I hope this may be of some use to you guys, A member of the Elemental Light has created a plain english compilation guide for Mac OSX. Im posting this link rather than the guide because I havent asked his permission before doing it. I do hope it helps you get back in the game. http://unksi.kapsi.fi/elementallight/viewtopic.php?p=3015#3015
-
Thank Trymm for that for us, Idoru. He put a lot of time into it, and it makes sense to me.
-
you could do it yourself by simply registering on the forum, although you wouldnt get access to the rest of the forum but it would be nice to see some thank yous on that thread ;)
-
i have a working client and it will be on the servers soon
for all that can not wait client is here
http://download.xdrive.com/s/273282987dvDQIDXD2PVgjVFF0x1?partner=plus
you need to add the art-folder from the previous version
and there are problems with lighting read the readme inside the dmg to solve them
do not run the updater
ps if your artfolder is to old you must run the updater on your old client then copy the content of the dmg into your planeshift folder
-
Simagel looks down at his feet only to see Bolad poised almost as if in....worship? No it can't be thinks Simagel, it must still be the cramps. Still, he thinks, it is good to see him back in Hydlaa, even if he does keep muttering something about DR never being the same with full lighting. Strange Dwarf.
-
ahh, I cant download the file from xdrive :@#\.
Stops at 5.6mb.
Can someone PLEASE upload the file to for ex. rapidshare?
-
Apologies if this is obvious to everyone else, but what IS the current situation with the Mac version? The Mac client status thread says the current version is .017, PlaneShift WILL run on a mac and you CAN connect to the server at this time. So when I'm getting a "wrong version" message on trying to connect to the server, is that becuase .017 is no longer the current version, or is there a server problem, or is it a client problem (even though it was running fine before)? ???
Sorry but it's not too clear to me.
-
I think we all could use some "official" information on the subject.
-

I'm in-game now with this unofficial build from source that Simagel compiled -and it works fine \\o//
I am using the Startplaneshiftfullbright.jar file in this to launch the psclient and I did add the lines "--relight bronzedoors" and "--relight deathrealm" to the PSClientCMDlist.txt file before launching.
Once in the game, log out using the usual "X" Icon then edit out the added "--relight bronzedoors" and "--relight deathrealm" lines in the PSClientCMDlist.txt file
-
Simagel, you are awesome! That worked! Still would like "official" information and release, though. But thanks!
-
Talad was doing something involving the updater and macosx tonight. Run your updaters and check tomorrow :)
-
I went ahead and copied a fresh directory from the .dmg file from the torrent that I downloaded last night. I am running as administrator, and I checked the permissions on the folder to ensure read/write access for owner, group and everybody (bad security I know just hedging bets). Then I ran the Java Updater, it did run for a while.
psclient.app started to open the client window, but did not even get the startup graphic loaded before it crashed, and I got the message below:
Library not loaded: /sw/lib/libdl.0.dylib
Referenced from: /Users/g4mini/Desktop/Planeshift3D/psclient.app/Contents/Resources/csjpgimg.csbundle
Reason: image not found
So my question is: Why update tonight and check tomorrow? Would I just update tonight and check tonight? Or update tomorrow and check tomorrow? What do you mean specifically by "check"? Do you need Console output?
Thank you, Xordan, dfryer and everybody!
-
By check, I mean, check that there's a working update for mac from the updater :P
-
Thanks! I shall check tomorrow!
-
I CAN PLAY NOW!!! \\o// \\o// \\o// The curse of the evil wizard Macintosh has been staved off once again!
Thanks to everyone who helped!
-
Have it!! ;D Thanks Simagel!

TRY this remove Version.dat
Then go to data/gui.
Remove the following.
questnotebook.xml
interact.xml
illumination.xml
gmguiwindow.xml
gmaddeditaction.xml
borderlist.xml
Then update.

I ran the updater about 11:00AM CST today. It did a small update, and I was in the game in about a minute! Thanks everybody!
-
Janner,
I did what you suggested, but for some reason I can't even run the updater! Nothing will even open =(
Anyone got any ideas?

First try this..
4. The next step (once the update is finished) is to set the permission bits so that you can run the client. You'll need to set the permission bits through Terminal. Open Terminal, located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal(.app). In the Terminal window, type "cd " (note the space " " after "cd"). Then, locate your Planeshift 3D folder in the Finder and drag it into the open Terminal window. Press return.
Then type:
"chmod 755 psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient"
and press return.
And then type:
"chmod 755 pssetup.app/Contents/MacOS/pssetup"
and press return.
Finally, type
"chmod 755 updater.app/Contents/MacOS/updater"
and press return.
5. Double-click pssetup(.app) to modify your settings and then psclient(.app) and play.
if still not working, unstuff the dmg of planeshift, and try that one, with the same files removed first.

thanks Janner.

Run the Java updater. Play. :)
That's what I did anyway. ;)

Thanks, that's all I needed to hear. Worked for me too! \\o//

None of the solutions thus far has worked for me. Updates fine (with 3.x vers.jar only), then does exactly as before flashes in the dock then quits. Any of the PS-Client,setup,update just flash in the dock momentarily then quit. The crash logs are the same as before which I've posted and sent in P.M.s. I also tried what Janner said to no avail. Well thanks everyone for your great work anyhow. Perhaps I'll pursue this game again after the next update.
-
Try trashing everything and using the Java installer (the Java updater with updaterconfig.xml, basically).
-
I'm having the same problems as Radiant Memphis. What does it mean to "trash" everything and use the Java installer? I mean... I can't run it at all... it just won't open.
-
I've been having the same problem. I've noticed there are a couple of new mirrors in the downloads page so I tried once again to get the new client. Still, it won't open. Seems that I'm not the only one with this problem. Maybe my system specs have conflicts with the new version or something. I'm on a PBG4 on OSX.3.9 with a processor of 1.67 and 1GB of RAM.
Again, any "official" info will be much appreciated.
-
Try my unofficial version

Here's a step-by-step guide for those who have tried everything and are still having no luck.
1. Log in as an administrator. How do you know if you're an administrator? Go to System Preferences and open the User Accounts pane. You should see something that looks like this (http://www.world-of-cha0s.hostrocket.com/Admin.png) (though possibly with more accounts). Note the keyword "Admin" underneath the name under "My Account."
2. Delete (or put off to the side somewhere) everything remotely associated with Planeshift, including the application, the DMG, the settings files, everything. If you do store this stuff somewhere instead of deleting it, do not touch it at all during this process.
3. Download this (http://www.world-of-cha0s.hostrocket.com/PSInstaller/Planeshift3D103x.zip.gz). Safari may say "decompression failed." That's ok. Just put it on your Desktop (if it's not there already) and double-click it. It should decompress to a folder containing two files: 1. Updater-old.jar and 2. updaterconfig.xml (and yes, 10.4.x users, you can use Updater-old.jar without any problems).
4. Double-click Updater-old.jar to open the updater. Ignore all the options and just click "Start Update." Wait for it to download the game (it's gonna download EVERYTHING).
5. When it's done, close it and double-click psclient(.app). The game should run fine without a problem. If it doesn't, please send me a PM including your system specs: OS (i.e. 10.4.6), Model (i.e. MacBook black), Processor (i.e. Intel Core Duo 2: 2.2 GHz), and RAM (i.e. 1024 MB). If you encounter any errors during the update process, please send me your updater log as well.
I hope this helps everyone. :) Thanks for bearing with us!
-
I'm afraid I've done all you said and still no good. :(
My biggest concern is that I don't get the application to start at all. I've tried all the downloads available (official and unofficial) already.
@Chaos: I've already PMed you with some details.
-
Upgrade to (you need a new art folder, (read Cha0s post how to).
Download from Janner :
http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26997.0
Mount it, copy to "what ever folder" on your box.
Copy the NEW art folder to "what ever folder" .
You ready to go....
You CANT save ANY old files. Just backup and save for later.
Good luck

I've been having a similar problem: I get past the login screen, to the player select screen, and then after selecting the player and clicking "Join" it immediately shuts down.
I tried using Cha0s's Java updator to download the entire package again, under this computer's admin account, and it got a working executable. I could login from there without crashes.
When I copied that working executable back to my normal, non-Admin account, it's giving me the same error as before. So the problem seems to be directly related to running Planeshift under a non-priviledged account - which is where I spend 99% of my time. Actually using Planeshift under a priviledged admin account, unfortunately, isn't an option for me. So I hope this bug can be discovered and fixed.
My computer is a Power Mac G5, Dual 2Ghz, 3.5 Gigs RAM, running Mac OS X 10.4.8.
Cha0s, if you'd like me to send you a crash report or any other information that might help you diagnose the problem, please PM me with instructions. I don't want to spam this group, and this forum software tells me that I'm not allowed to send PMs myself.
Thanks!
-
i have the same problem as richcon, everything works fine in my admin account but it crashes after I join in my non-admin acccounts, does anyone know if its possible to make it so that I can play under my non-admin account?
-
Asianknight, you dug up a rather old thread ... heh. At first when I saw the thread I thought "wow! 44 posts already since the last time I was here?" so I read through the first few and it started sounding familiar. But then, I checked the date, and thought it was funny so I had to pointlessly explicate it here. :D
-
I'm also wondering about the admin thing. The curious thing is that at one point, since I had access to the admin account anyway, I tried making my regular account an admin, to see if that would let me play the game on that... It didn't work. So I figured, "well, maybe when I download the next version, it will work then..." Then the next version came out, and it still didn't work on my regular account! I had to switch to my mom's! And it doesn't look like there's any difference in admin status... This is weird, and should be fixed.
-
at least u got to play. i have never played because it always freezes when i run the client :@#\
-
Siteri: I believe you need to install it as an admin. I suggest making your account the admin, removing the game completely, restarting the computer, and then reinstalling under your account.
-
For some reason, making a user account admin does not seem to work the same as using the original admin account that is the default account when installing OS X. I should say... doesn't *always* seem to work the same...
