Hi this issue was brought up a few months ago and i was wondering if it had been resolved yet, so has the game been configured to run on a 64 bit system yet or do you still have to reconfigure your own system to get it to work.

If you are running a 32bit OS (which you are) then you will be running your CPU in 32 bit emulation mode. it will work just like a 32bit processor for all tasks.
If you were running Win XP Pro 64Bit edition or a 64Bit port of a linux distro then you would be running a 64Bit system.

I was actually curious about this myself, because I am thinking of upgrading to a 64 bit processor and OS. If I understand you correctly you want to know if you can run PS in 64bit WinXP or on a 64 bit distro of Linux.
I still wonder if you can't download the source code, the art, and the engine and compile it yourself, but that does seem like a bit of work. I am fairly computer savvy myself and I still have never been able to download the entire source code from sourceforge.
Best of luck and I will keep an eye out for responses.

A 64-bit linux client has been provided for a long time, so yes to that. And I've played PS on Win64, so yes to that too. So the basic answer is, yes PS runs on 64-bit platforms and has for years.
