Hi, I'm a new user, and I love PlaneShift. However, I am having a problem with the Rogues in my city. (Ojaveda) They will come up to me and attack for no good reason. :@#\ :@#\ :@#\ This has happened a few times, and I am sick of having to watch my back all the time. >:( Is there a bug? My other characters have not had a problem with this. Has this happened to anyone else?

its an ingame kind of things.. some npcs like to attack anything with in range of sight.. bout 1-2 meters :) atleast you dont have to watch out for ulbers..
so yes.. its a bug of SORTS.. some even cheat using this.. (called botting.. BANNABLE! ) yes.. happens to many :) and maybe your other chars scare the rouges away :P

Often what causes this is when somebody attacks a mob, but for whatever reason doesn't kill it-- either they died fighting it, or simply found it was too powerful for them and ran away-- the mob continues to wander about until someone does finally kill it. Then it re-spawns and waits quietly for someone else to come along.
So really best thing to do is run away yourself if you cannot fight it, or call out for help.
I'm happy to take care of an out of control rogue, but only if it is _VERY_ clear that you want my help-- I'd hate to 'rescue' you from a rogue only to find I've stolen your kill. :innocent:
As Bartholin pointed out, sometimes if you are standing within a certain radius of a freshly spawned mob, that can cause the mob to attack too, so if you see someone fighting a rogue, stay very clear.

I wouldn't say this is a bug ... rogues are evil beings who attack people in order to kill and rob them. Especially those that can't defend themselves. I guess not all rogues will attack you but you definitely shouldn't expect to simply walk by murderous rogues or wild creatures without getting attacked. Learn to run or learn to fight back. ;)

That's what I was thinking.
Besides, most games have the concept of 'aggro' (that is, most monsters attack any player that comes to within a certain distance of them). Sometimes the system is more complex, with 'hatelists' (mobs prioritise their aggression based on the players actions - i.e. they hate healers more than weak archers, etc. allowing for smarter enemies and more intense and challenging fights than simply 'hide behind the meat-shield') and such. The PS system seems to be far simpler - the mob focuses on whomever comes near and/or attacks it first.

It also seems that a rogue will attack the weakest one around, if there is a group of lets say 4 folks standing close to eachother the rogue will go directly to the weakest in that group. I found that out the hard way when i started. :)

thats not true.. that guy was probly right on the "spanw switch" i have played "kill the rouge" many times.. i am pretty strong.. i beleave it goes for whoever is best on the "switch" unless it DOES in fact have a "hatelist" eg. ppl with more money get attacked, or better weapons in invintory.. but yea.. he he.. learn to run.. well.. walking would be faster then them to ;)

Well, I'm not that strong, and I'm getting tired of being attacked every time I go to sell my furs. Shouldn't there be "bad" parts of town, where the rogues go? :P

Wouldn't be a great place to mug rich nobles, would it?

Oja is considered to be a rather rough city, best to watch your back when you are there.
