hello,
with the follwoing glyphs (and the skill-level), INT88, i hoped to be able to create a combo-spell:
crystal (7): arrow, energy
azure (2): air
blue (7): cold
red (1): might, lightning
brown (2): armor
I have tried any possible combinations for the first 2 combi-boxes (including different orders).. after hitting the research-button, always nothing happens (not even a message in the system-tab)
Are my abilities too low? How high must my abilities be, to combine at least 2 glyphs?
thanky ou=)

You can only combine specific glyphs. It's not a matter of 'slap a few things together and see what comes out', really. (You can do that, but most of the time nothing comes out...)
Currently there aren't many combinations... in fact I'm only totally sure of one such combination (which I'm not gonna tell ya, 'cause I'm mean like that :P)
-
even then there is one combination of the set that he has that will generate a realm 2 spell....
i have been trying myself, and the combination that i know works hasn't been creating that spell.
-
Steuben,
sorry, what does that mean: "the combination that i know works hasn't been creating that spell."
Do you mean, should be able to get a new spell combined, or don't you?
-
It means that a certain combination should give a spell when you click "research", but it doesn't due to some bug.
I'm having it too, all the spells that I have in my spellbook are from before the addition of researching.
For all the spells I gained after that addition I use shortcuts to cast them as they won't research.
-
so.. :'( no combinations because of a bug..

You can not research a spell you know already. You can only research a spell you dont know and are at the right lvl to use that spell.
-
I know, even still I haven't been able to research several spells which I can cast through shortcuts.
The chat should probably be more verbose too, for example "you feel magic power flowing when you combine the glyphs, but your skills are not good enough to use it" instead of displaying nothing at all.

Now, am I right, that possible combinations would be taught to me by quest-givers?

They don't give you the ability to combine glyphs, they just give you some new glyphs that you might be able to combine with the existing glyphs. Of the glyphs you have listed, I see only one possible combination, but you are nowhere near the correct level you need to be to cast it.
That being said, the research component has made things more complicated. I used to be able to combine level 3 spells and have them in my spellbook even though I cannot cast them. I like having those there, though, as it inspires me to train that way. :-)
But, yeah, I agree with Thom, we need some more specific messages. Oh well ... :beta:
-
I don't see why we'd have to wait for Beta for a simple system message...
-
It's an emoticon.
Where does Mordaan say that we "would have to wait untill beta"?
He doesn't ;)
-
Yeah, I meant THIS is a beta...or alpha...or whatever. Meaning its a work in progress so everything in due time...

Oh. Well, this is Alpha. Beta is the next phase of testing - the part where they've pretty much added everything they want to add for the release and are trying to iron out the kinks.

Due to my own personal research, I have discovered that its not a 'bug' in terms (that I know of anyway). I think its required that you have a certain level in that way in order to combine the spell. Say if the combination spell would have been a realm 2 spell, then you would need 20 in that way to research it [the same for realm 3 with 30 to research]. I am not certain, but I did happen to do this with one spell, so it may be the case. (Hoping the Devs can give us a little clarity)
-
I know about the level requirement.

You mean, hoping they can give you a little clarity :P
We have already been... clarified.
