Sapere Magi
Greetings Traveler! Will you join me here by the fire? Barkeep!, Bring another Ale for my companion here.
Please sit.
You look as though you have been traveling for some time, you could use the rest.
Let me introduce myself. I am Sage Gwinn of the Sapere MAgi.
*bows her head slightly in greeting*
I am just one member of the HIgh Council of the Magi. There are four of us: the Knight Eid, Tempeli Xylaal and Merchant Indygo, also Have this distinction. The path to balance takes many roads.
*Smiles Kindly seeing the somewhat questioning look upon your face*
Yes Balance, The way of Balance to be more specific, is what we Magi strive for. Sometimes, it is a popuar notion sometimes it is not. The Magi care not of popularity, we care only to maintain Balance. *shruggs* Sometimes This means Bringing Order to Chaos, sometimes it is Bringing Chaos to Order. It is not an easy task at times, but it is a necessary one. We are the guardians of what is natural. If this means we must take up a sword or a hammer then that is what we will do.
*chuckles, then smiles kindly*
Many have asked me of Good and Evil. *chuckles* bah Illusions!, there really is no such thing as completly Evil or completly Good. For all things have both. What matters is keeping these things in check, keeping one from overpowering the other. One Must embrace both things to be in balance. It is a simple life, But such is the life of a mage.
Well, I must be on my way. Please, if you should happen upon our guild hall do stop in. http://saperemagi.100webspace.net
Untill be meet again, Be well, Travel safe, and may you always walk in Balance.
*bows and smiles*
-
Actually, that is quite lovely. :)
-
It is. Nice and simple. But a question. This balance. Who decides what this balance is? Whos to say that your balance isn't someone elses complete and utter chaos? Whats wrong with order? Well a few questions but anyway...
-
The website explains alot more about the guild for anyone interested and Sapere Magi has some great RPers in.
-
I read it but I find no answers. A nice site and a nice guild by all accounts but the question still remains. Whats wrong with order? I must know before a full impression can be formed.
-
Why You seem to understand completly. It is as Master Sapere says, all things in balance. Too much of anything can be a bad thing. when the land was dominated by "good" the creatures refused to hit. Life became stagnant. when the world became over run with Evil life became unlivable and also stagnant. When we are in a state of stagnation we do not grow. when we are in a state of balance we can grow and learn. It is not difficult for one to tell if there is an overabundance of any one thing. When things become stagnant they are out of balance. If one opens ones eyes it is obvious to what end of the scale things have drifted. While it may be a daunting task to fully achieve balance it is possable to strive toward it.
-
But with abundent order think of the scientific advances that could be achived. Science does not advance in times of chaos. It can hardly be stagnant when progress is being made.
I'm not criticising the guild. Just teasing out more information because I find it very interesting.
-
*chuckles softly, as she gently takes the mug away from Parallo’s hand and places it on a near by table*
Dwarven Ale is strong, is it not?
*winks and smiles*
Where were we…. Ahh yes, You say progress does not advance in times of chaos??? I find that an odd assessment. Good Sir, Necessity is Indeed the mother of invention. It is the need to relieve strife and suffering that gives birth to progress. By what ever Magic, you called it science? If there is no need there is no reason to change, things become placid we stagnate and then degrade. What is wrong with abundant Order Indeed !
Many of the greatest inventions known, are born in times of war or strife. If there is no need the mind will never reach. If there is no need to rise above a hardship, no muse, no motivation, there are no advancements made.
When we first came to dwell in this land we felt the pangs of hunger. Out of that suffering we invented ways of hunting and killing the creatures in order to ease those pangs. Competition for food and territory compelled us to quarrel amongst each other. This resulted in the need for better weapons, stronger armor, stronger lodging as well the techniques for makeing such things was dramatically improved. Those improvements benefit every other aspect of our lives. Chaos and Order are both necessary so long as these things remain in check we grow. An overabundance of Order or Chaos breeds stagnation and placidity. Yes friend, Necessity truly Is indeed the mother of invention.
*smiles and directs her attention once again toward the fireplace*

Greetings. One and all. It is good to be home once again. The Magi have been gone for sometime, each of us taking our own Journey. Now, one by one we find ourselves back.
-
Welcome back. :)
-
Welcome back, I didn't see this last year. Good guild concept, and your promotion thread is effective, although I would like to know more about the history of your guild, how it all started?
On the moderation front, your guild has to have [guild] tag I'm afraid, which I'll add after I'm done here. Once again good work and I wish you and your guild the best of luck.
-
Welcome back :)
One question, will you be taking up the guild again? If so I'd like to join.
-
Greetings Gharan. *gives Gharan a warm hug of welcome, and hands him a mug of Ale* how has my Dwarven friend been this long time. I look forward to talking with you over ale. Perhaps there is a home with in the halls of the magi for you, but until we know for sure it will be good to trade stories and speak of the old days with an old friend.
OOC { thank you Eliseth, When this guild thread was started we didn't have to put [guild] in front of the tag. But I do thank you for adding it now. The guild has been inactive a little over a year. With the few of us that could logging in from time to time checking in and keeping the guild alive. When I started this thread I was determined to stay IC throughout and RP any explanations. Even our web page is completely rp'ed Giving information about the guild without having it be more like a business card, than a guild introduction. The rest I have left to rp. either in game on in this thread. however your kind response warranted me breaking character. ]

Gharin sits down and drinks his ale as he speaks to his old friend and begins to unravel the mystery of where he has been, and how he has changed. Gharin and Gwinn have a long talk like any other when old friends catch up, speaking of where their life has took them, how they've changed due to certain events and asking each other about certain people they've both had the pleasure to call friends and asking if they've heard from them. He finishes his ale and stands up ready to say farewell for another day so he can go back about his business, when he has an idea. He takes out a piece of paper and begins writing, he finishes, folds it and hands it to Gwinn. He turns and goes to leave, as he opens the door he turns and says "Give my best to Eid", he then turns and leaves.
Gwinn opens the note and it reads "You know who I am, you know my past. I have not always followed the law to achieve my goals yet if you look close you will see I had good intentions. If you should ever have a use for me don't hesitate to ask. I shall help in anyway possible no matter what the cost, whether it be a tria or a life."
-
meep meep ya all ;D
-
Gwinn! Yay! Hope to see you ingame, whenever I myself manage to get there.
-
*reads the note and smiles , looking forward to seeing her friend*
*Meeps Evli right back* MEEP MEEP
*Greetings Farren, it is good to hear from you I look forward to seeing you*
-
To my new friend Gwinn,
It certainly looks like you have many tales to tell. I look forward to seeing you again soon to hear them. May your guild grow and prosper.
/me loves roleplay.
-
Greetings Mathy, yes I do owe you a tefu story *smiles and winks* And a tefu story you shall have when the opportunity arises. As well, I look forward to the many stories you have to tell. Good to see you. *huggs Mathy*
-
/me looks up at Gwinn and smiles sadly, I remember when a long time ago, or so it seems.........
I look forward to it Gwinn.
-
Gwinn sits down and motions for Mathy to take the seat at the table, she hands her a mug of fresh ale"
Ahh yes, I promised you a story.. the tefusang story.
While wondering the wilderness searching for Eid, my mind wondered off to a time when I was a small girl. My sister Paylay and I would run through the fields near our village.
My younger sister was a mischievous and tenacious child. When I tell you she had no fear, I promise you I am being cautious in my assessment.
One day we happened upon a baby tefusang. Her eyes began to twinkle in a very familiar way, I knew her mind was working. Which usually meant at the end of the day our parents would be sorely cross with us and we would gain extra chores for a week.
“Sister” I said “What are you scheming?”
In a moment she raced toward the Tefusang “Comm on sis……” she yelled as she headed toward the unsuspecting animal.
I knew what she was planning , so I trailed after her to stop her. “no, Paylay don’t.. momma will have us cleaning the temple for weeks!”
“This will be great…" Payaly beckoned ," Comm. On… COMM ON!!”
Before I know it, she jumped on the tefusangs’ back. The animal waved its’ claws , making a curdling sound as it frantically bucked trying to remove the most unwelcome little girl from it’s back.
All the while my sister grasping her arms around its’ neck, laughing and whooting as she held on for dear life. “Sister STOP IT…. Get off it NOW!!” I yelled, but she continued.
A few times her feet lost their grip and flew up behind her head. Fortunately she recovered quickly and maintained her grip upon the baby beast.
I was both impressed by my sisters’ tenacity and furious with her stupidity.
What we didn’t know was that, that horrible noise coming from the tefusang was it calling for its’ mother.
*gwinn Leans in*
Though it wasn’t long until we found that out.
*then she relaxes back in her chair*
For over the hill we heard it, calling back to it’s offspring, a loud shrieking growl.
Panicked I called to my sister “ Paylay get off… get off”
Her eyes grew wide suddenly realizing what that sound meant.
“I don’t know how sister.. I only know how to hold on!!!!”
The mother Tefusang was on her way, charging toward her baby, Shrieking and growling.
There was no doubt in my mind I was about to be an only child. I ran toward the tefusang screaming. “Paylay…..!!!!”
As hard as I could I jumped up at my sister knocking her off the tefusang, we both hit the ground with a thud. “uuahh”
It was on us! Stomping and swinging at us. The baby beast wanted its’ revenge. We rolled and dodged. “ahhhh” my sister gasped as it caught her leg. “Paylay!!!!” I screamed. The mother was almost on us now. I scrambled to my feet grasping my sisters arm pulling her with me.
“RUN!!!!!!!!!”
We ran as fast as we could toward our village, my sister’s running limp slowing us down.
I felt a burning pain at my shoulder as the mothers’ claw grazed me. I screamed out, and pushed on, I was certain we were done for.
I could see the outer wall of the village. If only we could run a bit faster… just a little more to go.
Heart racing, lungs burning I ran dragging my limping sister after me.
“Paylay come On! We are almost there.”
Suddenly the air around us felt charged. Bright lights burst like tiny stars from the village wall. I could hear the bell ringing in the tower. The ground behind us shook. “THUD” The gate pushed open. I watched the warriors from our village pour out and take defensive positions in front of the wall.
My back seared with heat as the baby tefusang landed a blow. I screamed and cried out “MAMMMA!!!”
Again the air felt charged as lights erupted from the wall. An arrow of light flew just past my head singeing my hair. Behind me the baby beast let out a shriek. I felt the ground shake as I heard the thud.
I did not stop running until we were through the gate. We both collapsed on the ground, immediately the healers rushed in and treated us.
Then I heard her voice. A lump formed in my throat as I knew that tone well. It was the tone of guilt filled dinners and hours of scrubbing and cleaning.
At that moment I wished for the tefusang to return and finish me off.
“Gwinn!!!!.... Paylay!!!!!” my mother Bellowed. “What were you thinking……” She turned toward Paylay and then to myself, shooting us the look only a mother can give.
My stomach twisted, as suddenly it became unbearably hot.
I opened my mouth to speak, as Paylay excitedly blurted out.
“Momma momma did you see… I was riding it…. Gwinn didn’t want me too… but I did.. I did good!”
then with a confident nod of her head she smiled as innocently and proudly as if she had just picked my mother flowers.
My Mother simply shook her head rubbing her brow, pointed to the temple and handed us our buckets.
For the three weeks we spent scrubbing the temple. My sister recounted the incident over and over, each time the tefusang grew ten feet in size and our wounds grew more severe. I hadn’t thought of that day in years.
*gwinn smiles at Mathy hoping this story has lifted her spirits*
-
/me sits rivited to my chair not even touching my ale. A wonderful and touching story Gwinn.
Then a sudden deep sadness comes behind my eyes, almost to the point of tears, at the thought of her own sister that will always be there.
-
*sees the sadness in Mathys' eyes*
I hope my telling of this story Has not brought you this sadness.
*looks concerned for Mathy*
{it is then Gwinn listens to Mathy's recounting of her sister and their plight}[via forum post]
-
After hearing Mathys' recounting of her troubles and those of her sister, She Touches Mathys' shoulder in comfort.
"If there is anyway that I can help, please Know You have but to ask."
*pats Mathys' shoulder then sit back into her seat*
-
/me looks up shyly at Gwinn and frowns a bit. So sorry to burden you with my troubled past.
It is people like you that makes me want to stay here in this fine city. I am deeply grateful for your friendship Gwinn.
-
*me leans in and speaks softly* "I wouldn't mind at all to go and show that horrable husband of yours a lesson or two regarding the strength and value of women!" *winks and smiles*
-
/me says hurting my husband will not make Leama come back. I do not believe I have any value at all though.
-
nice story, or maybe a sad one? its all about the same really. now down to what i came here to say
shame shame Gwinn. should Mytur not have been given word of this? the reformation of the magi and not a word to the poor lizard. you know he has been alone a loooong time now, you might have some explaining to do.
-
/me thinks Gwinn is in trouble now. Oh dear.
-
good news, gwinn has avoided the wrath of Mytur.......for now
-
Why Sir, Mytur was sent word by groffel. One must be patient when messengering via groffel their tiny legs can only run so fast. Take heart Mytur has returned as well. Slowly the magi are returning home.
-
/me looks around the plaza for her friend Gwinn. It has been a long time since I have seen her and it would just be wonderful to hear another one of her stories.
