Title: Can you level until infinity?
Post by: Sordelka on January 12, 2007, 06:09:12 am
Is there a maximum I could increase in my skills....like by experience or anything else?

All skills have a maximum and they all stop at different levels.

To add more information: The current maximums are set by NPC trainers - some train stats to 150, others to only 80, some skills go up to 50, etc. In the future these numbers may grow, but it is hard to predict by how much :]

Such questions are better asked in-game, and preferably in a format similar to: "Does anyone here know what the highest level of mastery light armor instructors have, around these parts?"

Roleplay is good :)

I would say the complete opposite to that, asking about levels in game is OOC, there is no way of asking IC, you either have to find out OOC privately or find out yourself.

Not necessarily - there are levels of belts in martial arts, so it's not completely crazy to ask about a "mastery level" of a skill. Whenever someone asks me about a skill level in-game I always manage to answer in-character :)

Added to which the stats may just be limited by the best trainer out there.  In which case it's a lack of NPC's (IC) and not game mechanics (OOC).

@karyuu

I suppose, but to me it just seems abit iffy to mention the word levels, unless of course there was as you say some kind of
mark, belt, medal, erc that you could get for being a certain level from some trainer who can give you one for x reason, altough having 140 levels of belts is wrong, unless its done in say stages of 10? :s.

Well, you can think of it in terms of number of classes - level 50 in "Sword" may be 50 intense training sessions, or maybe 50 months of training. Or weeks, if that's too long. There are a lot of fun things you can do with this :]

50 lessons sounds about right.  If every time you go to a trainer you call it a lesson.

All the same, both arguments have valid points.  Find a compromise

"You can become quite masterful [level 80]" comes to mind.

yeah that sounds more reasonable to me. IMO the the numbers for each level should just be blank so people don't know what they are unless they try, but thats for another topic which has been done before anyway. :p

Yeah, I usually say something like "You need X training sessions in the Red Way to use Meteor" or something along those lines.
Problem is, it might not always be applicable - if someone learned how to use daggers on the streets, they wouldn't really have definitive 'sessions' or 'months'. Still, everyone knows what you mean...

If that was the case i'd be a level 250 Tai-Chi swordsman in real life.

That would be nice... ;)
