Title: Scariest Monster
Post by: emeraldfool on January 15, 2007, 09:34:18 pm
What do you think is the scariest monster/supernatural bad guy you've come across in a movie, game, comic, etc?

For me, the top two would be the Regenerators (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Resident_Evil_4_creatures#Regenerator) from Resident Evil 4 (The big tall insanely hard-to-kill, limbs-grow-back-when-you-blow-them-off grey guys with red eyes and creepy grins plastered to their face. Whenever I'm around old people with respiratory problems it sends a shiver down my spine)

The girl from the Ring (Too scared to look for pictures. Might cause re-lapse of nightmares...)

I'm not saying anything about the existance of god. Just that in the text that brought him into the beliefs of so many he is a mean motha. Go read the old testament. I by no means think that the very mention of his name should constitute a lock.

True, everybody's heard the phrase "average god-fearing guy".

But Mods these days... you accidentally spell 'dog' backwards and BAM! locked out like an unloved latch-key kid.

I'm not that bad :<

Not sure about the scariest thing, but that rabbit mask from Donnie Darko, man... That kept me up for a while.

As for the coolest villain, definitely Yzma from Emperor's New Groove.

Ehh, now I understand it.
When you said "God. He's scary as anything." I actually assumed you were referring to emeraldfools' villain :P
Ah, the confusion.

Anyway, my Scariest monster would be the one from Predator 1. (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0093773/6098_16_7.jpg.html)
I've never really been scared about any monster from any movie/game at all, except for that baddy.

Might be related to the fact that I saw that movie when I was like 6 or so though >.>
I'm not scared of him now, of course, but after I saw that movie I had nightmares a few times :P

That's what made it soo scary for me.

Typing this here right now, is scaring the crap out of me now actually lol, that movie really shook me up.

I was in highschool when that movie came out.  We watched at a hollowe'en party at a friends house who lives in the middle of the boonies (the woods).  After watching it, we went outside to play man hunt.  It was pitch black.

fun fun fun

I agree, Pop culture isn't apropriate here... it's too scary for this thread... pop music is like... take a retarded woman who thinks she can sing, put her voice under a synthenseizer, let her under the plastical operational thingy(give me the right word please :/) and voila, a new pop star has been born from the graveyard D:
Paris Hilton is an excellent example of that... and this is not even overrated... I was disguisted when I heard she was putting voice to some sounds.

The phrase you are looking for is something like "put her under the knife" or perhaps just "give her plastic surgery."

Znazibar, do you really think it is appropriate for these girls to be running around showing off their naughty bits in public? What would happen to a guy who did that? What would happen to them if they didn't have gun-toting bodyguards? What would happen to those two fine young women in your picture in the faces thread if they decided that this was a good example to follow?

I am afraid you mistook my sardonic expression, "Woohoo ...." literally, if that is the case I am sorry for confusing you. You should have been able to figure it out that it did not signal approval from the negative terminology.

I wanted to also post a picture of the footmen, but I couldn't find any.  They were the ones with no heads who would run around swinging their arms and they were in unstrapped straight jackets.  I found the idea of getting trapped in the sleaves of their straight jackets as they were swinging around to be very nightmarish.

Oh great, it's all coming back to me now...

Didn't those footmen guys have weird gimp masks on or something though? I remember the way they would move like weird gorillas, which added startling contrast to the creepy grace of the grey ones...

Come to think about it, I can't believe that show was on at like 10am. There was more sex, violence and horror than you could shake a stake at...

One of the scariest things that ever happened to me in a game was when I blew off its head, arm and both its legs in a panic, and it fell to the ground and stopped moving. Naturally I thought it was dead, until I tried to move past and it suddenly jumped up and started biting my neck off...

The monsters in "System Shock II" are pretty freaky as well.  You can hear them long before you see them, but they're the crew of the ship you on - being controlled by aliens.  So as they're coming to kill you, they're telling you to run away... they're appologizing to you... it's scary as heck.

That reminds me of One-Hour Photo. The thing was, I went through half the film not realising it was a horror - it was quirky and had Robin Williams as the main character; it seemed fine.

Then suddenly the whole film turns on its head with one scene - Williams is having a dream where he's standing alone in a massive quiet storeroom with his eyes closed. After about 2 minutes of absolute silence, he screams and opens his eyes, which are red and bleeding profusely.

That screwed me up. Whenever I closed my eyes I'd see his face, and I couldn't look anybody else in the eyes for weeks. It still makes me wince whenever I see someone open their eyes after having them shut for awhile...

The scariest monsters are the ones you never see. They haunt the shadows of your mind, and creep in the unlit corners of your darkened room. You never see them, but you think can hear them. You can feel them just beyond your senses, waiting and watching. They are the fear that crawls up from deep inside you as you find yourself unable to run. If you run, then they will know that you know they are there. So you walk slowly with stiff shoulders and white knuckled fists, hoping and praying it is not time yet for them to take you.

So turn off all the lights in your house, and take a step out into the darkness outside. Now turn your back to that dark and close your eyes as you hold your breath. If you are quiet enough, you will hear it coming. You will feel it reach for you as the thundering in your heart drowns out its final approach. The tiny hairs on the back of your neck raise as the unseen terror pauses in anticipation an inch from your skin...

Now go back inside, but never turn around. It was not your time, but do not temp them by showing your eyes. Never turn around. They can see fear.

In closing, the most terrifying monsters are those we create in our own minds.

Something about the "class" of aliens so-called-experts name "Greys".

It's the only thing that chills my blood. I've overcome the fear over the past few years somehow, but if I see a bad broadcast about aliens on television and the distinct grey alien shots start playing, I won't hesitate to change the channel.

Fears are a strange affair. There's nothing about the face or image that I should fear, especially not at an applicable or realistic level. But most fears aren't I suppose.

A long long time ago I would read a lot of adventure books 'Fighting Fantasy' by Steve Jackson & Ian Livingstone.
One such adventire book called 'Moon Runner' had this part where your in this very dark steet at night with only a lantern.  You hear something behind you, turn swifty only to have a beast called a Shocker staring at you full in the face.  Gave me nightmares for a while... its that damn eye!.

Although It's not that scary now I used to be terrified of the marvel char BlackHeart because of one of those lame scary story books i read when i was in like fifth grade and i matched the char of the book that was going to eat someone with The monster Blackheart which fir perfectly. The dream always seemed to Involve me sitting on whatever peice of furniture i was sleeping on (lights on/off always the same as when i woke up XD)  and the thing floating in my room. It would turn to me and i'd remember not being able to move like my skin was tight.. as if i just couldn't stretch it enough to move. Then it would say simply "I'll grind your bones" and i'd wake up crying... Those dreams had occured for three years until i eventually stopped sleeping for about a week then i took advice from my friends mom and salted around my room (Supposedly clensing it of evil spirits) That way it wouldn't attack me.. Really all it did was make me self confident enough to get rid of the dream until it came back for about two weeks XD That was a bomb dream i almost miss it

Not exactly a monster, and it is not her appearance that scares, but the way she speaks is creepy, and her creations "The Many", even worse.

"SHODAN!"

Lo-lo-look at you, Hacker. A pa-pa-pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you ru-run through my corridors-s. H-h-how can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?

I won't post a SS of certain species of the "Many"(High-poly fan-made Models Pack) cause it is disgusting.

But the Cyborg Midwives really scared the hell out of me!

P.S. They are from the game System Shock 2

Fear is what keeps us alive and lets us know our boundaries in life, without it ... it creates scary people who turn into monsters.

Fear turns people into monsters just as easily though... perhaps more easily.

That is also very true. Fear can work both ways without a doubt. Just as greed, jealousy, envy, etc, can bring out the inner monster in us all.

fear comes in many variations, it's what may keep you from sending a choclate cake or something sweet to a person who deserves it because you fear something, a shame it didn't happen then. That's the kind of fear I'm talking about. Not the fear which keeps you from doing bad things

Roses have thorns.  Teddy bears can be dusty.  Whatever means surprises.  I don't like surprises.
