This forum contains posts going back as far as January 2002. PMs have only been stored since April when the new forum opened, but there's no limit on mail box size. I currently have over 350 private messages in my inbox, and that's after deleting a whole bunch of them at one point. This is very atypical for the forums I frequent and it's gotta take up some decent disk space.
I am not advocating a forum wipe. But will there be one in the future?

No way :D Talad really enjoys all of the history this board contains. When we were switching forum software, if we couldn't have imported all of our old data Talad was ready to refuse SMF and stick to the previous board. It's definitely safe to say that all our old baggage is here to stay.

Although PM pruning sounds like it might be an order :P
I'd hate if the history were gone, I love my first post, talking about being drunk ingame. Young me = <3 :P

Disk space is cheap, and I believe acraig has a lot of it on this host, so no need for any deletions :)

Good reasoning.
Also, it's fun to say something like "This has already been discussed!" then point to a thread from 2004.

But will I still be able to remember this post in five years time?
Seriously though as a moderator on a fairly big site myself some old posts can be useful, but there are usually 100 spam posts for every one that you have to save as well. What we need is an automatic spam pruner on the forum ;)

He don't know me too well do he?

What about a wipe of just the server status forum? The nature and intent of that forum is very newsy, so only very new threads really need to be kept. The only reason to keep things would be as proof that the server goes offline every so often, but it's at the cost of potentially causing confusion to people (especially younger persons) who are just trying to figure out what's going on.

Not too bad of an idea. I can at least get rid of locked threads with certainty.
