Title: How to fix lag?
Post by: foosta on January 22, 2007, 03:51:47 am
I just started this game. I went through the download and install very well; I had no problems. When I made my new account and user name, I thought this game was going to be so great because there was so much choice. After all the choosing for my character, I logged into the game. I must say, this game has the best graphics for a free MMORPG. The only thing is that I'm having trouble with is lag. I cant walk regular and everything is stop-go-stop-go. I need help on how to solve this problem. The game looks like so much fun and I wish to fully enjoy it. Thank you for you concern.  :)

Can you post your system specs to help us out? :] Things like your processor, RAM amount, and video card would be good details.

Intel Pentium 4 processor. I have DirectX 9.0. I use Windows XP home edition. I remember updating my graphics card it was like NVIDIA, ATI, or some GEFORCE. I'm pretty sure I have around 1-2 gb ram. I don't know if this helps, but when I press ctrl+alt+delete and task manage opens up, the PS CLIENT says around 150-170k. That's pretty high but I don't know... Thanks.

Lag has been rather large for some people in the past weeks, I'm not sure why .. most likely it had to do with an update or change they made but it should be better now. This game is being tweaked and messed with on a regular basis so it isn't that extraordinary to experience periods of lag. With your system you should be able to run PS just fine methinks.

I already know what the problem is.
I encounter the same problem as you.
I am also running Windows XP and have a Nvidia Geforce-videocard.
The current lagging for me is caused by the Nvidia Geforce-videocard.
The developers will make a cure for it, when they found the full problem with the videocards.
We only need to wait for now, till the fix is there and accept the horrible lagging for now.

Nvidia cards have problems with RECT textures, those problems cause crashes and possibly lag too.
RECT is completely disabled for Nvidia in the latest CrystalSpace, but PS doesn't use that version yet ;)

*scratches head* I thought they already fixed that lag .. it's practically gone for me now.

Hmm, the client got a small update a while ago, but it doesn't have the new CS as far as I know.
I don't use the official client anyway, so like I care :P

Hmm... I went back on the game and everything worked perfectly!!! A miracle, I must say. And since that was the first time I actually played it, boy, PlaneShift looks like a great game. When I logged in I'm like, "no lag!" Then i walked around for a bit and a guy helped me and gave me some money to buy items. By my *first* experience, I will say this game has great graphics; better than a lot you have to pay for, a nice and helpful community, and a good story/plot plus many fun things to keep you from getting bored. Well, every minute I spend on these forums is another minute I am not doing something else, perhaps... PlaneShift! Thank you for all you help, farewell and good-bye.
