Title: Stance Timing bug
Post by: Datruth on January 26, 2007, 01:32:59 pm
Reported to Bugtracker:
http://hydlaa.com/bugtracker/bug.php?op=show&bugid=2292&pos=0

Quote
Basically, what happens is, there is a way to get past timing, slashing in .2 or .1 seconds.

To do this, you press a hotkey /attack 1
Which gives you a bloody stance.

But you need to press it 3 times, the first 2 miss, and the third, slashes Very quickly.

I have video and Pics of this, if need be.

This is VERY high priority because currently alot od duelists have been using this to get PAST timing.

They don't need to wait 2 seconds, essentially to attack.

All they need to do is, press bloody 3 times, and they slash in .2 seconds.

Please fix this

~~Restound

A friend of mine showed me this bug, saying he learned it from someone.
I was shocked, and undertstood that timing isn't suppposed to be like this.

He didn't know it was a bug, thought it was a game feature, i explained obviously the game doesn't work that way, and that a game flaw was letting this go through.

Does anyone know how we can fix this? I'm guessing this will take alot of work.

This also solved alot of problems i've had with Axe wielders.
Basically, ALOT of people have been wiedling axes, and i've had no clue why.

I checked back on some of my logs, and i saw those same people, slashing 3 times, and hitting me, before my Daggers touched them.

It's impossible because my daggers slashed before them, and has a faster timing.
Anyways, i hope this is fixed.

Untill it gets fixed, the Dueling system will inherently be flawed.
Timing, in my opinion, is VERY unique, and i loved the idea, it made the game more sport, than just random street fighting button hitting.

Timing made it interesting.
It's too bad the timing system is flawed, hopefully as i said, we can get this fixed.

*scratches his head*

I'm not sure if it was very smart to post something exploitable like this on the forums so that everyone can read this .. if it's reported on the bugtracker it will be looked at.

The dueling system has been flawed from it's birth and will be flawed long after this is fixed .. too many abnormalities and too much lag.

Wow, great you post this here.
Let there be abuse!
If you just post it in the bugtracker, the people who matter will find it.
Now possible abusers will find it too. Yay!

it's old bug and as far as I know it's there on purpose, you have to be close to enemy and loose previous stance to hit so quickly. People are trying to exploit this for long time and as far as I know they aren't so lucky > good dueler can fight without it...

Thom, and Zan.

I checked my logs, this has been going on for some time, i've found it for 4 months.
I posted it here, so that it could gain attention and be fixed.
There are still tons of problems on the tracker that arn't fixed just because they arn't getting attention.

And it's already being abused Thom, look back at your logs and you'll see that.
Especially look at your duels with axe wielders.

As for Zan, there is no lag or problems with Dueling, just because you have trouble with it, doesn't mean we all do.
If you lag badly, it's your connection or computer.

The dueling system, has very little problems, and the problems it did have, were fixed.
This bug is the only problem i have with the dueling system really, i don't see anything else wrong.

And yes socia, you don't need it to win, i did very well my whole time here without it.

You realy didn't try this bug at all... your pervious stance must be minimaly half or more time in hiring range when you loose it and after it you can change into stance again. As far as I know it's there on purpose because there is packetlost making people loosing their stances before they get to hit, have you ever tried to fight with claymores?

Another thing : we all do have same lag mostly. I'm dueling on two machines one is realy good piece of hw and another is nearly out of requirements for this game. I have most of time same lag, CAUSE SERVER LAGS  :lol: so don't say that it's because of hw. Hw lag is visible for others, they can see you running on place, twitching and so.

I didn't try this bug? Socia, what are you talking about, i reported it, i wouldn't do that if i absolutely understood it.

oh and what does this mean:
"your pervious stance must be minimaly half or more time in hiring range when you loose it and after it you can change into stance again."?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As for us all lagging, i rarely lag Socia, it is her computer.
Sure there are times when the server has problems, but for the most part i'm good.
If you're lagging on a good computer, and connectiong socia, you're connection/computer is either not good enough or it's the server.
As i said, i rarely lag in duels. If i do lag, it's because the server is very very busy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I must say socia, i'm dissapointed in you, i just now figured this bug out a few days ago, i reported it within hours of learning it.
I took pictures, and recorded it.

If you knew about this bug for so long, you should have said something about it sooner.
I think that's our duty as testers.

Now i'm not a person who reports a plethera of bugs, (this is my first report)
But that is because this is the first bug i've encountered that wasn't reported.

Restound you didn't know about the slam attack attack attack attack attack technique?
Have you never looked in system tab and seen some one take 12 stances after you took 1?
 :P
Believe me if they win with that it's from luck is all.
You cannot win consistently with that it's not a YOU WILL ALWAYS WIN THING.
I beat attack slammers all the time and if I loose my bearings I too sometimes am a slammer only because I don't
wanna get stabbed when I loose my bearings. So I pound attack a few times till I figure out where my opponent is.

A lot of people do it it's like instinct ... you get scared and keep slamming attack cause you don't wanna die.

That and fighting with daggers is the best thing to do if you want to survive a duel ... and also the largest problem I have with the current dueling system, so unbalanced. But nah, it works perfectly really :P *sarcasm*

Don't forget the imaginary walls you hit, and sometimes being catapulted faster in the direction you are heading, and sometimes someone catapulting up to you and BOOM! you're dead and... well yeah you get the point.

Zan if you have some problems with dueling, list them.

Don't just say, lag.... that doesn't tell me anything.

What problems do you have with it!
