Ok, tonight I was debating on which was the best way to get the new client with a friend. I am using uTorrent. If you have found any faster way of downloading or have any advice to get the new client faster please let me know. Thanks.
-
Azureus is a really nice torrent client. Simple to use, but powerful. (And pleasing to the eye :))
-
If you don't mind the higher usage of memory it uses, it is quite pretties after all, then yep I second miss k.
-
The Ps updater will not work for that?
-
The updater application will enable you to update to the newest release, but it usually takes a bit longer to have the updater mirrors ready. The first thing available is a bittorrent link to the entire new client.

Since this is the first time i encounter a server update.. will i have to delete my old client when the next one will be ready?
The old one will not work anymore?
I know.. probably stupid questions...don't tell me that..
Thank you

You can choose to keep your old client and use the updater application to fetch the new files, or you can download the entire new client. So there are two options. The download to the full new client goes up first though :)
-
But please check and save your shortcuts if you made them before you start the updater as they will always be over written!
-
or write protect your shortcuts, anyway, the updater usually screws things up for people who run it in the 1st couple of weeks so I would just ignore it as an option all together.
As for the actual topic, has anyone tried BitSpirit? its really pretty and does some cool stuff, as for cpu time and memory usage..... I really dont worry about such things ;)
-
I know that this is likely posted elsewhere... but what is the name of the client?
-
The really long name of the client is (will be) PlaneShift Crystal Blue v0.3.018. The name of the file to run the client is psclient.exe - not really sure which one you're referring to, so here are both :]
-
I am now laughing. I thought with all the talk that the bittorrent was ready ::)
Though in your post I see that it is not yet. Not that I need to get on. I thought if it was ready as a torrent I could help seed and get it started while I present a few business plans :D
I am such a geek \\o//
-
the website it says the client is ready...but the site still shows the 3.17 is it available anywhere else?
-
You can get the latest PlaneShift version following these simple steps:
1) Get a BitTorrent client (http://www.bittorrent.com/) and install it.
2) Click here to get PlaneShift Crystal Blue 0.3.018 (http://laanx.fragnetics.com/bt/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.018.exe.torrent)

the bittorent version that it says to use if you can is .18 . I am currently downloading it with utorrent, which works great, but I think it is a little slower than it should be. I did notice however that the mirror that i did get to work was .17 so i had to cancel that and use the bittorent version.
EDIT: yes you just beat me karyuu....and that is the link I used :D
-
I changed less than 3 min after I made my post... but the server is still not up :D LoL
So I will try again after I sleep... my leader meeting was great! LoL
-
I used bittornado (http://www.bittornado.com/) it took a little over 1/2 an hour to get the windows client, averaged about 80k/sec I think. Guess I'll wait for the linux version as the game crashed in winblows. might have been my onboard GeF4 and old drivers as it initially was ok at 1280x1024 fullscreen aside from a little color bleeding where the graphics resized. Could have been residual processes too, did not stay in windows to find out as the server was unavailable anyway.
-
The server continually says failed connection when I have tried :p
-
Downloaded from http://yliakum.de/files/download/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.018.exe in like, 10 minutes...
-
I used the so slow Bitrocket for downloading the client.. wow i got 420k/s... never had more than 80 before..
But now i have to find a way to unlock the pc my friend gave me with an expired Vista.... that doesnt allow me to boot on something else than the hd... (yes even with the bios options changed)
I will probably be able to do it when the mac client will be released.. and when the server will be up :D
-
I used utorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/) simple and very small client. was using azureus, great feature but kinda bloated
-
I use UTorrent, it uses the smallest amount of resources of any of the clients I've used(which is most of them) and it's got some nice little features. I tweaked mine and was able to get about 670kbs at some points, and stayed around 600kbs on average. Now servers up please! \\o//
