Another expansion of the PlaneShift world is ready! Client 0.3.018 is avaiable for download.
Here are some of the improvements contained in this release compared to 017 :
- New area south of hydlaa, called the winch.
- Hair styles support added. For now just the female ynnwn has different hair styles, but more will be added later
- New animations for some characters, like ynnwn male.
- New items and icons shipped into the client
- Lot of new quests loaded
- New faction system, you can see a first implementation in your skills window, under factions.
- GMs can register official events on the server, players participating to events can access events tab in quests window.
- Added new map function, to dsplay/create maps
- First implementation of locks and keys (not fully usable yet)
- Many bug fixes and improvements
MacOSX and Linux version will be ready in few days.

i may be blind, but where can this new client be downloaded or updated? i tried the updater but it ran out of mirrors and said it couldnt finish the update.

Visit the main website for info on getting the torrent and begin downloading. There are a lot of seeders at the moment. To get to the main website, just click the Tavern picture above.
The update mirrors are not finished. So if you want to play, do the above and download the full install. If not, wait.

I have downloaded the full installation file and am unable to connect, is the server still down?

The server is down and could be for hours please wait and dont keep posting now that you have the client that the server is still down. Yes devs are still testing and it might be up by morning [i dont know whos morning but morning].

Usually you can start using the updater few days after the Bitorrent release in case there are no serious bugs found in the client. If there are serious problems with the client, we do another Bitorrent release before updating updater mirrors.

Feels weird to check a thread named "new version available" and find no link to get it right away.
Nice to see a new release out, but, if I'm allowed, even nicer to see the BugTracker resurrected as a useful tool again.

...if memory serves, and it often doesn't, the above have each been the case after one new version or another... so, i was just wonderin

lovely link, but to me that seems to be a wrong link, its a bin file, most windows users have no idea what one is. Im thinking that that is the Linux link, this is the windows thread.

I back the mod hear. "MacOSX and Linux version will be ready in few days." Where used in opening post, this is General Discussion, SO if a player wants to expand on the opening post, in this case Linux, they are free to do so.
This is just my thoughts.

There's a thread in the linux forum which I update with links to the new client (I updated it this morning). The torrent isn't working yet though, I haven't got access to upload it to the tracker ::)

Well, since the Linux and Windows ones are out, and this thread is OS independent, when is mac going to come, other then soontm, or a more rough estimate then in a few days ? :)

When dfryer gets done compiling it. He had a client compiled just a few days back, so it shouldn't be that long. Just sit tight and be patient. :)

I did wonder about the updater (I have the Linux client but from what I can tell, this particular issue is OS-independent). My execution of the updater also complains that the mirrors are either unreachable (404 Not Found errors) or don't have a version file, so any attempt to run the updater fails. I have seen numerous people talk about this in this thread but only as a passing mention. So, does anyone know whether waiting this out will work (i.e. for the current mirrors to carry the 0.3.018 updates), or is there a list of other mirrors we could use or some other workaround?
I have the latest client (0.3.018) and just need to update the artwork. Thanks for any light that can be shed on this! :)

I don't think our updater mirrors are available yet, so don't update until you hear official word that it will work.

If I understand this correctly, the game is now unplayable for me. I run Ubuntu 64bit GNU/Linux in version 6.06 or something (the latest release).
I will have to wait "a few days" for the "linux version".
What about the source code ... wouldn't I be able to get the source downloaded and compile it myself?

I'm thrilled I can play again (after almost 4 months!). I dunno what bugs I'll run into but at least I have a chance to RP again. :D

This is my first post on this forum...
Well...
After downloading and installing 3.018, I managed to run the installer (took two tries though). This "updated" my version back to 3.017. X-/
(Yeah, I didn't read the instructions that told me not to run the updater.)
I ended up uninstalling what that left me with. Then I attempted to install 3.018 again - this failed when it reached updater.exe. After deleting all the files in the game folder (I had to restart my computer before it stopped complaining that they were in use) I tried reinstalling again, and this time it worked.
So... now I'm just waiting for the server to come back on.

Don't use updater ;) Its the curse of PS, that when new release comes, before the updater will have recent files, it takes a longer while (weeks)
Get used to the open source project in development rules ;). I think it is worth, as you will learn things you normally wouldn't playing WoW for instance.
Also, on the restarting issue... Don't blame PS. Blame M$. It is their system, which won't let you do what you want.

Linux and Mac versions have already been available for 2 weeks now, but it has not been announced on the Planeshift homepage (http://www.planeshift.it/) yet.
Hence my question: when the updater works, where will the notice be posted?
NB : The fact that, when there are no newer files on the update server, the updater reverts PS back to 0.3.017 instead of doing nothing at all, isn't it a bug in the update process more than a rule of open-source development? ;)

Yes, I agree, it is a bug. I guess its because of this bug that they placed the warning on the front page.
What I don't know, is whether this bug is being tracked.

Heh, hard to believe it was that long ago that I stopped playing. Well I'm back, and from the looks of this topic's first page, some good changes occurred while I was gone. According to BitTorrent, I'll find out in a few days...
