There are certain things about the game that cause me to reminisce to when I first started playing it. One is being in Hydlaa with the music on, but the other is just being in the sewers. It's weird. You wouldn't think camping rats in an isolated room of the dungeon would be something to be sentimental about, but now those rooms are empty. Even the tefusang valley is gone now.
-
The music is definitely a big thing for me. 99% of the time I have it off, and so when I switch it back an odd nostalgia creeps in.
-
Nostalgia, that's the word I was looking for.
-
I miss rping with zorbels. She was the first one that really got me into the whole RPing thing. Otherwise I was just a tester.
Blasted RL getting in the way.
-
I miss roaming around Hydlaa, exploring and looking for all those hidden places like the top of the windowless tower or the way to get on the city walls, etc.
-
And Ojaveda was so exotic, and the dungeon was mysterious and creepy.... and Oja road was a long walk. :-D
I also miss how much simpler the weapons were, to be honest. No it's hard to not think of weapons in terms of their stats unless I purposely underpower my character. But before, all the numbers were invisible so weapons like silver falchions had this mystique to them.
-
Hah! I don't miss anything. I have my music always turned off, I never roam the sewers and I roleplay with everyone around... Wait. I miss Setill. And the Temple chats. And the short road to Oja. And the simple DR. And... <.< >.> *runs away sobbing*
-
You've been in the same guild for five years though. :P
-
I remember the Mac bug which caused the indoor scenes to distort so dramatically and fragment into this weird blurred repeated image across the screen....
I dont miss it though...
And i remember camping the rats at the bottom of the sewers stairs.... My first tefusang......
-
Hehe, I haven't been in the Empire in all the five years of its existance. I started to participate after their first year passed. I've actually raised through the ranks until I became its head leader. Not a unique feat either, since Jjairr of the Felines Lair did the same thing with her guild, I believe.
And since we're on a nostalgia spree: I miss seeing people camping on spots to get diamonds, rubies and emeralds. That was fun. There were these dudes that wouldn't even stop and speak. They were hooked on crystal. xD
-
yeah, crystals....
I don't miss those.
-
We had some of that when rubies were added to CB. I remember finding this one guy standing by a spawn. Whenever a ruby appeared, he would pick it up fast as lightning. Whenever I dropped a ruby near him, he would pick it up fast as lightning. He wouldn't talk to me. I gathered a group of people and we ran over to him. After a few minutes of picking up rubies, he finally started talking to us. No doubt he was very startled by us, having been deep in his trance.
I've been in a lot of guilds so I've seen a lot of people leave the game.
-
I miss the very recent time when founding guilds costed 20,000 trias and you would have more time for roleplaying instead of wasting it mining gold. But most of what I miss is what still did not happen.
- I miss pterosaurs and ryunaaks(from the "You were a ryunaak Jockey" I guess they have the same function of RW horses).
- I miss masonry, Ranged Weapons and Lah'ar.
- I miss a political system and a balanced and realistic economy.
- I miss models for Xachas, female Dermorians among others.
- I miss an interesting and balanced combat system.
- I miss the day in the future when wipes will become obsolete and it will be possible to extend from roleplaying instead of trying to use inexistent or flawed skill systems to using the perfected game engine from the distant version 1.0 .
- I miss everything that is claimed to be coming soon(tm)
- Among other things that are coming not so soon.
-
I miss rping with zorbels.
Awww, well sorry about that. :(
/me blasts real life too.
What I miss is the gatherings that used to take place at Trepor Valley. We would hunt in groups and every so often you would see a newbie running from the ruins screaming help as an ulber chased him. Used to be fun to jump in and save the day. We would work as a group to slay the ulber because we would all be fairly low on stats. *sigh* Oh the good 'ol days.
-
I miss having a running client :( *sigh*
-
The temple!
Walking in there I always half expect Hevrah, Golmir, Cad, Kada and tons of others.
-
I am in honest agreement and get the same feelings as zan and karyuu [at least their first posts]. When I finally remember to turn my speakers on or help a noob in the sewers it's like **Bam** ... all of a sudden I am remembering those hours searching for crystals, then fighting rats and playing with a great group of people who no longer play any more. *sob sob*
-
A bunch of rats should be moved to one of the rooms in the sewer, like old times.... a room close enough to the entrance that new players would congregate there.
-
In Character (IC) means to act, speak and behave like your character will do, not you as a player will do
Time for the IC part of this thread:
*Annera thinks: There is few places worse than the sewers, it is a sad reflection of reality that many survive by hunting rats over there, fortunately I never had the unfortunate need of doing it, so I would not miss them if I had to travel through them. Still the sewers are a very important part of infra-structure for any city in Yliakum. If the government decided for some weird reason to stop the maintenance of the sewers and no one in the community organized a group to replace them, it would mean that this city where I lived for more than a decade would become a outdoor deposit of litter and infectious diseases, therefore I would really miss the sewers for their great public utility.
-
(OOC) The sewers and the tefu field used to be the only source of money in the game. That's why, to older players, they're of such significance.
-
you know what I miss? is that two years ago I was about to play this game and i crashed twice and quit, had it not been for a short amount of patience I would be maxed in everything and still have a better view on Planeshift. I miss being a noob and thinking those yellow rocks were gold...and what music we talking about? I play hard metal for dueling and soft stuff for whatevers left, I never has PS music on though, creeps me out 2:00 in the morning ;)
-
I miss Golmir, and sensotaka, and the defenders, and the temple, and well...yeah. that's about it. The DE, I miss that too...It was good times.
Oh and I can't forget Jjairr, and the fuzzies...seems I miss people much more than anything else. Oh well, life's life.
EDIT: Don't forget Raven Guard and Zellgadess and Zan.
Oh and the good times with the Community of Vaalnor...
and that one time with, *goes off talking to himself.*
EDIT2: DeT!!! And yeah, I'm done. I promise...
-
I miss the dwarves singing in the Plat mine, good times. Same probably happens at the goldmine but I ain't ever been poor enough to visit the goldmine.
And sewers hmm... can't say i'll miss the sewer. Was glad to get out of there and actually speak to people.
-
I decided not to quit Planeshift, im in love with this game, I decided to train stats once in awhile and be a passive player, watching what goes on -volund

I think I saw Zellgadess around last month.

metal for dueling and soft stuff for whatevers left
heh
"whatevers left"
-
I think I saw Zellgadess around last month.
Yeah, he paid a visit a while ago...Though he's gone now, I think. Oh well, he'll come around again in a bit.
BTW I miss talking to FESFES too...
-
I miss the discovery the most when you are a new player. I can remember finding the sewers and getting lost deep down in them many times. Than finally realizing how to get down into the dungeon and finally mastering the way down into it. Ofcourse the first trip to Oja was awesome also. Finally finding the "other city" and ended up doing a weeks worth of quests there. Than finally when the Bronze Doors came out it took me a month to get the new directions down. The good thing about it is you still have new discoveries whenever they implement a new area, new quests, etc.
-
I miss falling through the floor. Then making a new character, and falling through the floor again. Then I would make a third character, and I would stand in the plaza. Then I'd take two steps and fall through the floor. But the fourth one stayed! \o/ Atomic Blue. Good times.
I miss climbing various parts of the world. I miss Drad the temple statue ( :P ). I miss making a long line of menkis along the temple roof. I miss Bora and her two (very long) word greetings.
I miss 'rat1', 'rat2', and 'rat3', floating in the sewers during the CB closed test.
I miss being a GM and helping new players learn the ooc rules and the planeshift world.
I miss being an RM and bringing the world to life from the 'other side'.
Of course, I love the bronze doors. I love the addition of more and more interesting quests. I love many of the new people who have joined PlaneShift since AB.

That's like me with daggerfall. It would be different every time you installed it; sometimes it wouldn't load, sometimes it would crash during character creation, sometimes certain features wouldn't work, etc etc. But for each install, the problem would be consistent, but the problems varied from installation to installation so I would have to reinstall it three times before finding one that was "satisfactory".
-
FESFES? xD You made me remember that thing.
-
I miss the freedom of the MB movement system. I remember scaling walls, running freely, finding ways to places we shouldn't get to. I miss my crystal route, and I miss the simplicity of the times.
-
I miss the Crystals. All my crystals gone... trias are ok I guess.
Hadies
Misses "I miss using my shears on dwarves that come into the temple to swipe my crystals that spawned on the balcony. lol You could literally time individuals that did huge patterns around the city and know when they would be running up the stairs lol.
-
I miss waiting for the CB release date...all ..what? fifty of them? :P
And then the devs gave up on release dates :P
I miss the MB hunt.
Hevrah's enki steaks...and eating them when I didn't know what an enki was.
Finding things out that I thought nobody else knew...
Being new was alright, but it was really fun when people started calling you an oldbie and then older players looked down on you because people were calling you an oldbie when they didn't think you'd been there long enough.
I miss magicing in the Temple with Zetsumei as a friend and Hevrah as a mentor.
I miss listening to Golmir talk about his plans to wage war on evil.
I miss 15 year old me :P
-
Once Monketh and Draklar were so into their discussions about dwarves, that they really jumped at each other. Draklar won. Hah! A Victory for the Empire.
I miss Drad. He would stand there in the Temple, always in the same place. He still plays CB from month to month. But he no longer stands there all the time...
And Xordan being called a noob :P The Cabal Forums had pretty wild stuff. Do they still stand? They're priceless.
-
I miss Golmir, and sensotaka, and the defenders, and the temple, and well...yeah. that's about it. The DE, I miss that too...It was good times.
I miss the defenders too,... and Zabeal and lots of other people's characters that are gone because they have either become gm, or dev, or have quit, or have vanished,...
I also miss the simplicity,... i never quite got used to the crafting system etc,...
oh well :)
-
I've played PS for 5 years now and I don't miss anything.
Let there be progress!
(though I kinda miss the old market entrance to the dungeons...)
-

So the secret to becoming a GM is to be boring?
-
yep gms are boring, but to tell you the truth some of them or most of them I dont know have played this game and were experienced players, now they control the game. :) im afraid of them OOC, but heh if they want to fight in game Im always up even if they have 10000 health and overpowered stats.
-
I miss the days when the only monsters to kill was rats and tefusangs
I miss the day that i've found, thanks to friends, the entrance to the Laanxdungeon where there was a thug dropping broadswords
I miss the day the rats starts to drop falchions (Steel, Silver, Gold ones)
I miss the day Harnquist got killed and we had no possibility to sell loot for a while
I miss the day when Sir Bodacher moved from 'up the barrel' to 'into the barrel'
I miss the day when Talad and friends used to show off in the plaza their powers
I miss the day when i was in the arena and i've killed a mercenary passing by and i've looted an incredible axe (first special weapons we had)
I miss the days when most of us used to play games around (hide&seek, treasure hunt, etc)
I miss the days when at least one GM was always in front of Harnquist to teach to newcomers
And i miss Sir Golmir, Sir Sensotaka, Lady Milana and all the Defenders i've met
-
Ah, I miss so much also. I miss seeing people be force to rp-fight 'cause there was no fighting system. They would show off their hard earned weapons that were useless. I miss the feeling of finding a diamond, that always made my heart skip a beat. I miss roleplaying with a lot of people in the Temple, I miss only having Hydlaa and newbs being a relative rareness (compared to today), I miss glitching my way inside houses, and I miss the lack of fall damage, so many people jumped off the big tower... And I miss Bloodclaw Inc. as well, of course.
I don't specially miss the sewers. It was nice in the first times, actually, with rooms filled with rats and people walked around in groups a lot. Other then that, when it became what it is today, it just lost the little goodness it had. It also seemed endless in the beginning, doesn't anymore that I know most of it.
-
And I miss Bloodclaw Inc. as well, of course.
Who needs Bloodclaw when you have the Trades? ;)
-
The only thing I ever feel nostalgia about is the people who no longer play the game for various reasons. I always find it sad when people leave the game :(
-
And Xordan being called a noob :P
I knew it!
yep gms are boring
I beg to differ...
