Title: No VGA rendering (fixed)
Post by: alpha645 on February 10, 2007, 04:30:59 pm
I'm kinda new with this game and Linux. I'll try my best...

My problem is that the game plays, only the terminal goes crazy because it's filed with errors.

I tried everything:

- fixlibs
- pssetup (lowering, highering and sound doesn't even work)
- mesa-installation (I get an mesa-error which appears the most)
- Tried searching for other errors, 0 result

This is the last part of the terminal, I uploaded it too rapidshare:

http://rapidshare.com/files/15853780/Errors.html

Click free at the bottom. Then enter the text shown in the box and download.

Any suggestions?

Specs:

Fedora Core 6 (fully updated)
The latest version of the game

Questions:

- About the first errors, what is GART-memory?
- Does anyone know anything about this 'externel dxt library'?

Ok, I got rendering up :) . It's by opening /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add the line '

   Option "GARTSize" "64"
Now for the sound  :P

Did not having GART set right crash your system at any point?

I'm trying to figure out what crashes my box when I start psclient.

Oh, btw, for the sound problem - try removing (or renaming) asound or something similar ...Xordan already mentioned a problem with sound on certain solutions and which file to remove to make it work before.

OK, got it all fixt except for the sound  ;D . The GART thing works partially  X-/ . So what I did:

- Install ATI's drivers (compiled it for my distro)
- Recompiled my kernel with DRI as module
- Changed some stuff with pssetup

It seems that the regular radeon drivers are only supporting 2D (WHY DID'T ANYONE TELL ME THAT  :@#\ ) . Anyway, when the 8.32 drivers were out, it went wrong. Yesterday I tried again, and poof  :P . I worked  \\o// . So the trick is to get the fglrx driver working.

AND TO LOWER DOWN THE VIDEO SETTINGS FROM PLANESHIFT (no multisampling, no anisotro(whatever)). I suggest to lower down the graphic settings for the game. That's it, I only have one problem (which I consider minor). Is that sound is not working. Planeshift is complaining about an unknown PCM state  :@#\ . If anyone is interested in that I can provide loads of info. Anyway, I'm going to play 1280x1024x32 bit  \\o// \\o// \\o//

Yeah, GART didn't work. I removed the asound library from the /libs dir and it works  ;D \\o// :D . Thanks for the help. I have only ONE suggestion, and that is for the site. The main page opens REAL slow when you don't have the fglrx driver. I suggest you make the pictures less big. Because I had to turn off images in Firefox to get this site opening. And I'm assuming you guy want much players...... Anway, THANKS :D .
