I have one, sorta addicted to it.
www.Myspace.com/doug77
Does anybody else have one?
-
Hate it.
-
Yeah, I always found it a real waste of time that's just killing us. I mean, let's go out and grab a pizza, have a chat. Friend: Nah, I'll see you on myspace, K? Kewlz.
-
Myspace (http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Myspace), Orkut (http://images.wikia.com/uncyclopedia/images/b/be/Orkut_bush.jpg), etc... bah! :P
-
Alright, heres a picture of me, where I live, my age, and oh lets slap on a list of my fears in a blog....
-
Eww a myspace! Kill it! KILL IT!
I'm not really into those social network things, but myspace seems particularly awful :p
-
Eh. I hate all thoes 14 year-old girls who post EVERYTHING about themselves on it, dont set it to priviate, Accept anyone who wants to be their friend, practically asks for a stalker...etc.
I use it mainly for writing. The whole Blog Idea is a great way, in my opinion, to share what you write with anyone who cares. And even if nobody cares, it's still out there. That should be enough =D
-
I'm not really into those social things
Just thought I'd edit what you said to make it more general :P

Whoops, did I put "networking" in there? SIlly me. Thanks for fixing it up man :)
Edit: Actually, no I didn't, I put "network" in there and didn't look up to check what I'd used before posting this. :D

im not a very social person in real life, so I have a natural hatred of myspace.
-
Ah, I like it. I have spoke to people from basically everywhere that I didnt even know existed!
Yeah, I always found it a real waste of time that's just killing us. I mean, let's go out and grab a pizza, have a chat. Friend: Nah, I'll see you on myspace, K? Kewlz.
And its not really like that, I do go out quite alot with friends actually :)
-
I'm always annoyed that everyone on there has like, 500 'friends', and I have like 10... makes me look anti-social...

If you do know Romanian, try the following about a blog: http://dictionarurban.ro/expresion/view_expresion.aspx?eid=566 (http://dictionarurban.ro/expresion/view_expresion.aspx?eid=566)
If not, I'll translate.
Blog.
Online journal kept by unloved persons in their social life and who believe that, by showing their daily pity lives, will impress someone, fact which will bring love, joy, happiness, and eventually friends.
Doina: Hey, you were saying you'll kill yourself because no one likes you and you did find out you have no purpose on this world.
Andrei: I know, but I've opened a blog now and I really feel I'm appreciated, though it's only my personal opinion and I have no proofs for that, but I do like to lie to myself and ignore being hated.
Myspace is useless. I found that when I was having a hi5 account... My tip, go to clubs. Stay outside. Have friends. Forget about blogs.
-
Well, I have three bands on there, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/lambentflame ">this[/url] my own, and two others I work with, here (http://www.myspace.com/Delnostrosangue) and here (http://www.myspace.com/birthbox). Of course there is my normal page for friends here (http://www.myspace.com/lambaentflame). You know emeraldfool it's not the quantity of friends, but the quality thereof.
-

Ah, how true, how true... Why suffer the mediocre back-stabbings of 250+ people when you can be downed by the supreme head-bludgeons of just a few?

'Head-bludgeons'? That sounds interestingly specific...

why all the pessimism?
ive had mine foir 2 years, never been spammed, never been criticized (except on forums such as these, and thats only for ahving one) i have 98 friends each whom i know in some way or another
its real easy to talk trash about a site (and yes, with myspace it is very easy to) but you dont have one and i dont see why so much pathetic attention gets involved long enough to debase it no a forum that has nothing to do with it anyway
:flowers:

Pessimism is so much funnier than optimism...
Anyway, it's not that the site is bad, or the users are bad, it's just that what it has become is bad.
It's all superficial stuff - writing biographies about yourself, showing off (be it pictures of your car, or all your friends, or your girlfriend or whatever), insults/flaming (which happens quite a lot), chain-letters and meaningless chatter and gossip...
Not to criticize or anything. It doesn't reflect on you at all, Kal, I'm just saying what my impressions of the site are...
-
The fun thing about pessimism is sometimes you get a pleasant surprise. As for

That's kinda like real life ego boosting and smack talk, only you get to do it on a larger scale via the net. Although, sometimes people do use it for networking and I have sold some of my music and gotten offered a few gigs from it. Yay music.

but wouldnt that be the users fault for putting all that stupid stuff up?
but no i agree with you...its what it has become that is...disturbing...
its more of an addiction than it is a social activity or whatever

Forgive me if I am wrong, isnt that what this WHOLE section on the Planeshift forum is for? Meaningless chatter and gossip about anything non-ps related?

Apparently not. At least not with Kay and Nek around... :P
It has to be constructive and inflammatory and inoffensive and other non-sense like that...

You're allowed to disagree with people and say things that make people think. Just don't be an idiot or say anything overtly insulting and unconstructive.
Now, it's more than possible to get away with snide sideways insults that leave you room to deny your actions, but that's a different matter.

Right... coolness on an internet message forum...
-
MySpace is actually a really useful website for keeping in contact with people that you normally wouldn't have a chance to speak to very often.
I made a lot of friends when I was in the military, and when I was discharged I made the stupid mistake of moving to the black hole of the universe, North Platte, Nebraska. There were a lot of people that I lost contact with and really didn't have a way of tracking down. About 5 months ago I got an account so I could keep in contact with my brother, who had just been deployed to the middle east. He worked pretty nasty shifts over there and at least with myspace he could post messages to his friends and news on his life (as long as it wasn't work related).
Within a few days of creating the account I had a bunch people look me up. Some of these people I hadn't seen in many years. I found a couple of old comrades from my tech school in Monterey California that I now chat with on a pretty regular basis. We reminisce about old times and post bulletins and such about stuff related to our old jobs that our little clique might find interesting. Here are some examples of some of the people I keep in contact with:
- 6 old friends from high school, one that now lives in San Diego, one that lives here in N.P. but almost never has any time to go out (single working mother with 3 kids will do that to you)
- 2 old friends from tech school, one living in Vegas, one in Okinawa. I didn't even realize that I went to high school with the one in Vegas until she pointed it out on my profile. I partied with this chick at Ft. Ord quite a few times and never made the connection until I was out of the service.
- 6 old buddies from when I was stationed overseas in Asia.
- 11 relatives, half of which don't live anywhere near me, that I normally wouldn't remember to call or stay in touch with
- 1 person from PS that is interesting to chat with when I get the time
- a few others that I have met that we usually use MySpace to coordinate places to meet for get-togethers and such.
I do agree that meeting in person is much preferable to chatting online with some pictoral avatar and cute little phrases and jokes, but around here, the only entertainment venues for persons between 21 and 35 are bars and more bars. During the 3 short months of summer we all go to the lake and raise hell, but this enables us to stay in contact with our friends, even when we are all in winter hibernation mode.
Edit: Fixed a really annoying run-on sentence
Edit again: http://www.myspace.com/goldir (http://www.myspace.com/goldir)

Right... coolness on an internet message forum...
I mean 'cool' as in 'we're cool', or 'I'm cool with that'.
Not cool as in what I am the epitome of...
-
MySpace is actually a really useful website for keeping in contact with people that you normally wouldn't have a chance to speak to very often.
I was actually going to say something along those same lines, but then... I didn't. I do use myspace for keeping in contact with out-of-state cousins and friends, and people I like but never get a chance to talk to anymore. You may be thinking, "...e-mail?!", but the message interface is a lot more inviting on myspace, and there's no spam, PLUS there are reasons to go there besides just the messages, so people check and respond more often.
All in all, it's realli the other people that ruin myspace, what with the self-centeredness and the conceited arrogance and the obnoxious little bulletins that say "I gotz new pictures! Comment and I'll lovez youz forEvErz!!" but in fact, when you reply honestly and tell the person that they're nothing more than an ignorant, self-concerning, low-life prick for whom it's realli a damned miracle to see them pull away from the mirror every morning, they let fly an emotion quite different from love.
Everbody keeps telling me I realli gotta stop saying stuff like that to people. :P
-
[..] tell the person that they're nothing more than an ignorant, self-concerning, low-life prick for whom it's realli a damned miracle to see them pull away from the mirror every morning [...]
Oh. Oh, I like you. (http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6695/happyfaicxk6.gif)
I got pressured into a myspace account for the sole reason of checking on friends. The whole thing feels really bloated and ugly, so I had to clean things up (http://myspace.com/karyuudo).
-
The only reason I have been to MySpace was to check out a documentery my buddy filmed. It showcases a local music teacher and his students who form Evolutionary (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=33663988). The teacher is the first ever to win a Juno for teacher of the year.
-
You can use the email to keep in touch with your cousins who are on the Moon. You don't need Myspace. Like you don't need a personal page to say "ohh look how trendy I am!". Because you do need to continue that line with "...ohh, but I really need to go out, to meet real people, and actually have fun, 'cause it sux to see time running like hell from me".
Being serious, websites like this one really do the opposite than the idea their built on. And that means they create distances between persons, they make a "separate" virtual world. C'mon. Like on hi5, where you're crazy, "Oh I need more fives! Please comment on my pictures, please please please!". For that kind of people, I have a phrase which comes from deep deep in my heart: Get a life.
I was on hi5, and I do know what kind of people "hangs out there". It's a damn way of life, get real.
-
It's just a tool. What matters is how you use it, and different people use it different ways.

Poppycock. Why would Rupert Murdoch work for the NSA?
-
Because he is pretty intimate with the government (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Murdoch#United_States)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Murdoch#Recent_activities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Murdoch#Recent_activities)
And because of OUTFOXED (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outfoxed)
Who knows what lies away from the public eyes involving these mass-media sharks?
-
The real question though is what would they do with such information? Perhaps use it as blackmail if you're running for president, but how many of us are planning on doing that?
-
Such information is important to help in identifying the "terrorists" and "subversives" in the case FEMA launches REX-84 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REX-84), finally removing the cover of democracy and turning the US in a police state.
This is already gradually happening.
Thanks to the Patriot Acts (http://www.rense.com/general34/takeover.htm) as well!
-
So... how do they sort through the billions of lines of text that go through MySpace every day anyway?
It's not like terrorists and subversives are going to discuss what they did today at their terrorist meeting, and that Mohammad The Destroyer is being such an arse lately, and should lighten up...
-

I guess you didn't get my meaning when I said "terrorists" instead of terrorists. What I mean is the list of those who would certainly offer resistance against a police state, including the currently peaceful ones.

Stonn Mrogg is amazed how myspace is hated so and how differently profiles are setup (ie lord raleigh, kalika, karyuu). Stonn doesn't think it should be taken so seriously, but what does he know. Stonn agrees about mirror pics. If you can't get someone to take a picture of you, you need real friends, not myspace friends :P Stonn also hopes his use of the third-person will keep this thread from turning into a political discussion.

Karyuu, your myspace is lovely. One thing that's always annoyed me about them is they tend to be cheap. unreadable and far too wide.
If every profile had a nice design like that, I wouldn't think it were *quite* so awful :)
