How long have you left it loading for? :} Can you post your system specs for us?

If it stops, what is exactly happening?
Are you asked if you want to save a diagnostic file? If yes, could you please follow the instructions here: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=27639.0

You can also try to reduce the font size through Pssetup and you can even try to check up errorlog.txt and see what is the last line that is written there, so eventually we can check up better what is going on.

It is highly probable, however, that you might not meet the minimum requirement or that you need fresher drivers for your graphic card.

Ok, here is what it says:
Loading Game
then it shows the area that I am in, Hydlaa,
Requesting Connection
Loading World
then it gets 2/3 of the way full in the loading bar, goes no further, and then at the top it says
Planeshift (3.08.something) (Not Responding).

I made another character, and it loads fine on that character.

Karyuu, maybe he needs to be moved by a GM in another area?

Otherwise, dragonexpert19, could you try to reduce the font size in PSsetup?
What about errorlog.txt?

Sure thing, we'll just need the name of the character that fails to load.

Thank you so much! The name is Yunwun Vralin.  I reduced the font size to 80%, that enough?

By the way, Karyuu, did you get your location by looking at mine? Just curious.

if 80% does not work try 50%

Have you recently used a multiline text control to enter information (such as editing your character description or entering a petition?)

No, it's inspired by my giant collection of "im in ur ____, _____ ur _____" cat pictures ;)

Time to change!

Not too long ago, I did edit the character description.

To Karyuu: Ah, I see. I got mine from a Halo II (or I, not sure) shirt.  Also, I am guessing that I haven't been moved yet, as it did the same thing just now.  Am I correct?

It sounds like you've hit one of the infamous bugs in 0.3.018. If the character description has been entered and a single character runs acrossed the entire width of the screen and wraps to the next line and then saved, the character cannot login past the area you've described. I've put in a request to have your description wiped. Note to everyone else: This bug has been fixed if you build the client yourself and don't feel like waiting for your description to be wiped. Use planeshift revision 2-20-2007 00:00:00 and run
Code: [Select]
cvs update -dP src/client/entity* src/common/effects data/effects/misc/entitylabel.eff afterwards to patch a problem with the labels.

Update: Your description has been wiped. Please let us know if you can login now. :)

I tried to login, didn't work.  I lowered the font size to 50%.  All that did was make it hard to read.  Will moving me help? If so, then please put me in Hydlaa, if it is not too much trouble.

As a last resort, if everything else fails, I could recommend building the client to allow us to get the necessary error messages to troubleshoot it. The official guide is located here: http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html (http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html). Also, if you have any trouble building it, please feel free to come to Planeshift's Public Developer's Channel on irc at freenode.net in the #planeshift-build channel.

The only thing that work as workaround for the problem you have is lowering the font size.
Moving won't help as well as other semi solution (except if you build yourself, but if you are not familiar with the concept I strongly NOT recommend it).

It wouldn't hurt to TRY bulding - its not like it will damage your computer or anything.  The online compile documents are pretty good nowadays and the build channel usually has a t least a few people who can help you through any rough spots.  While its probably a last resort, it suer never hurts to try - might learn something along the way :)

Not everybody has to learn how build because that's the only solution. If you are not familiar with building (and you are not interested in doing it by default), it might be really frustrating and the documents, even if improved and existing nowadays, are surely not written for a person that is not familiar with any concept of building.

Eh... that's me. I have never built a thing like this in my life... :-\

So... what can I do?

Sorry about the double post, I know it isn't proper message board etiquitte, but this would look weird attached to my previous post.

I am going to do something I hoped was avoidable- make a new character.  I have some stuff on Yunwun Vralin, but to never get to use it... I am making a new one.
