HiHo, was playing for almost 3 weeks (I think at least 150 hours), but decided to quit. Things are changing very slow for me, I hope that development of this game will speed up. But I want give an advice to developers, love your community and Be Interested in your community Grow and try to learn to use resources of your community (not only resources of Developers). I will definitely check back later, but as for now, it is too Alpha for me. I spent two weeks to make myself familiar with quests, "economics", magic, and maps of this game, I even helped quite a bit of new ones to start with this game as a member of "Vespers of Laanx". But suddenly I found that there is nothing more to research in this game for me and "economics" don't work I think this is the main reason I quit.
Thank you all for all your work.
Farewell and Good Luck.

Byes!
Hope to see you back in a few years maybes. :)
Thankies for the comments on why you left. shows what areas need to be improved on.

Goodbye!
Quite a few of us have taken some time off from PS but we almost always find our way back to it.
I wouldn't expect PS to pick up its pace, I expect it to muddle forward relentlessly at the pace that it's going now. This game's development happens a lot slower than its commercial brothers and sisters but I doubt the project will ever come to an end. There is always more to improve and add. That's what I love about this game!
-
Aww, this was a pretty good leaving thread actualy.
Hope to see you in a few years Cinerar.
-
It is certainly fine that Cinerar is leaving, of course. 99.9% of our 340,000 have left. :-)
Leaving because of slow progress though, is a shame, because his expectations are so unrealistic. This project has been going about 7 years. Compare that to Linux, which is more like 17 years. I just heard last night that php has *1400* registered code committers, just for the language itself--not for the projects using the language.
Now compare it to commercial MMO projects. NWN2 had a team of 121 full-time people, according to the credits. WoW had over 300. EQ2 has over 150. Most of these take 4 years or so to actually release client 1, so that is 500-1000 man-years of time in those games. To get to what they have.
We have like 15 guys, working in their spare time so perhaps 25% time instead of full-time, so we are a team with less than 1% of the capacity of the commercial teams. I think we have a game which is more than 1% of what those games are. :-)

The difference is that you guys do it for the love of it (I assume), not for the monetary rewards. I think it makes you guys more likely to put your heart and soul into the work you produce rather than just working away to get the paycheck at the end of the week like in commercial MMOs.

Cya.

Yeah, but you can't come to expect that. And I'm sure there's over 15 people who poured their heart and souls into WoW too. There's still that other 285 people that helped... If PS had 285 more people it'd be the next World of Warcraft ;)
-
Trust me, The next World of Warcraft aint a good way to go ;o)

The ones who always pour their hearts and souls into a game project are the ones who had the initial idea and design of them.

*Annera shrugs "Another loonie, I am leaving"

*WoW PKer changes to an aggressive stance

I think we both meant in terms of popularity :P

If PS had 7.5 million more people it'd be the next World of Warcraft ;)
Fixed.

I think Em meant developer-wise.

ditto. Anyway, the next world of warcraft is DEFINANTLY not a good way to go. But hey, I'll cya later mate, and Venge, this is 150% better than those commercial games. Skin deep PvP and nuthin else. This is sweat, blood, tears. We have spent tired nights, we have [continue cool speech]
So yeah...
[By we I mean the dev team. Since I've been of little contribution]
[And by the Dev team I also mean those dedicates "playtesters"]

we care more than you know to and know more than you care to :woot:

I mean, if PS had 285 more developers, it would attract 7.5 million people because it would be so awesome. How do you people not get that? :P WoW is the top-grossing, most popular online game ever. But like Lordra said, it took around 1,200 years of communal effort between them to make it there. I'm not talking about anything other than statistics here...
I think Em meant developer-wise.
Aww, she called me 'Em'
-
The problem with WoW is that it is a large majority of the 7.5million that ruin it.

Venge did you asked yourself why you have 340 000 accounts and only 15 guys working with you?
Do you really think that only 0.0044% can contribute something?
And yes, you have done an excellent work, but hey, 3 weeks (for me) with gold working like moneymaking machine for everyone killing all my hopes to see a real economics here at this stage of development.

1) Yes we have.. well people come and leave for whatever reasons so it's been a lot more than 15 if you include all the people who have contributed in the past.
2) Yes, that's the case really. It's a very small minority of people who have the skills for software (and game) development. As always, people are welcome to apply if they want to help.

Is quitting the new craze or somthing?
And why is there a huge need to advertise it?
Why not just... quit?

I could not possibly agree with your sentiment more.

If it's someone I know or have seen around I'd like to know whether I'll ever see them again. Even if it's to avoid making RP plans based around them or something...

It doesn't matter. They always come back anyway.

It doesn't matter. They always come back anyway.
I've quit tonnes of stuff I liked, and still like, but never went back. Mostly 'cause I'm either too lazy to get back into it, or have too much other stuff to try.
For example, I used to play another Alpha-stage MMORPG called 'Era of Faith', which I quit after a year. It's been like 4 years and I still haven't gone back, even though I wonder how much better it's gotten...
I don't see really the difference between that and Planeshift...
-
I ment that the people worth keeping always come back :P

Welcome to PlaneShift, little green crystal (http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6695/happyfaicxk6.gif) Once you're here, your life changes. It's not yours anymore. You won't leave. You will try to leave, but you'll never truly sever the tentacles that grip your mind.
All your base are now belong to us.

Hehe, 'tentacles'...
But that's just not fair. I don't want my life to chance :P
I never signed up for this...

because the people who do advertise this just want attention or and cant bear to leave.

Yeah, I cant quit, I keep playing time low, but I dont quit.

More or less. I've seen plenty of people return to the game, but their level of involvement and impact with regards to the community is never the same.
-
hmm I agree there are different levels of playing and the "desillusioned returner" is often not comparable with the person before the break.
-
:) Everyone come back. There is no other game like PS, it's just that simple. Even if it is an Alpha or whatever you want to call it, it's the best RPing game out there ... I have gone through many and could not find a single game like PS. From free ones to payed ones. I have to say PS is the only one that made me really feel as if I was another charecter in a whole other world. By the way Hello everyone .. long time no see.
-

I don't think it's even a matter of being disillusioned. It's just that after you're gone for a long time, the faces change.

Moogie (http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=20)
Don't ask, don't tell.
-
i think that there are two options of returning.
A)You played to long and are now adicted.
B)You took a break because your brain was starting to melt down.
In the second case the people who return come back better and more active.
-
Moogie'll be back. Just give it some time. Everyone comes back.
-
She was here for our texturing contest :)
-
hhmmm I'm betting she is secretly already back on an alt ;)
-
hhmmm I'm betting she is secretly already back on an alt ;)
What's the point in that? She really wants to avoid us so badly? :P
-
Couldn't blame her really.
-
I hope, for Moogie's sake, that she is never dragged back into Planeshift.
Wouldn't mind if she came willingly.
-
Once you click on the "login" button, there is no turning back...
In the distant future many of those who did quit will return and thus these threads are temporary on their meanings, not absolute. Which version? I would say version 1.0 will attract many of those who left it back.
No one can escape the PlaneMatrix
/me takes the blue pill, knowing that the red pill is a waste of time and asks Morpheus to go home
-
I doubt we have to wait til 1.0 I imagine most will visit before then.
-
150 isn't much, I lasted longer :D, but thinking about it, I think you need to be more involved in the community and have some friends to miss if you're comming back.
-
Yer right, Peacer, Its better Rping and much more fun when you have friends, and on that note, we will miss you, man. :'(
-
Hi there, there were not so much time passed since I quit PS.
I tried a couple of other MMORPG, including: RuneScape, EUDemons, Conquer online, Wurm Online, Last Chaos, maybe more, just can't remember them. None of them was able to catch my attention for period of 10 hours or more.
So basically PS is the best.
Will wait for the next version before coming back :)
-
Uh, that was like 2 thirds of a month :P

It is certainly fine that Cinerar is leaving, of course. 99.9% of our 340,000 have left. :-)
Or have they? Have they indeed...Venge...?
It doesn't matter. They always come back anyway.
Do they now? We shall see about that. Oh yes, we shall see indeed. -most fiendish laughter possible-

Oh well I wish those who left a happy crap. I wish those who stayed a happy Rp, Life in planeshift..people leave...people stay. Suck it up and deal with it. Oh and a reminder to people to /tell those who just came back, its annoying when you get 20 tells at once, thanks for the reminder of popularity. But its annoying. :(
