Title: Alternate Installer
Post by: Induane on February 22, 2007, 01:06:32 pm
I've had to troubleshoot the bitrock installer a few times in the build channel and for me the errors are always befuddling.  I know the installer works fine for most people but for those that just can't seem to get the installer to work I've built another graphical installer based on InstallJammer.  Don't know if its helpful, its just a repackage of Xordans binaries so it should be pretty universal.

If there are any problems with me offering this download let me know - I mean I know its technically illegal, but this is purely unofficial for a few people whom the current installer doesn't work for.  I kind of figure no one will care too much.

What distro do you use btw? I'd like to try and reproduce any problems myself, something I haven't been able to do so far.

I always use the latest stable Ubuntu.  I've not had problems except on 64bit with no fonts showing up even with all 32 bit compatibility libraries installed.  Mostly I end up trying to help people in the build channel.  - Usually its something went wrong with the download, they forgot to make it executible, or some other common problem but a few times - 3 or 4 - people have had some unusual just plain jane crashes when launching and I can't ever figure out why.  Some were on ubuntu - thought it might be the switch from bash to dash, - changed that around and nothing - I've never had major problems myself either though.

I have this happen to me everytime I launch the in staller on ubuntu:

 ./PlaneShift_CBV0.3.018.bin
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169
  Major opcode:  147
  Minor opcode:  3
  Resource id:  0x0
Failed to open device
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169
  Major opcode:  147
  Minor opcode:  3
  Resource id:  0x0
Failed to open device
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

So I am unable to install the latest version to play.

Glad it was useful for something.  Makes the 15 minute effort worthwhile :D

I'd like to thank for this installer too! I've had the same problem as Freejack, so I guess there's something wrong with Ubuntu 7.04. Anyway thanks once again!

I would also like to thank you for you installer. I'm not finished downloading it but I experience the exact same symptoms, I'm sure it'll work for me.
