Oh Hydlaa my life.....Ojaveda my mistress.....this world has become corrupted, it has forced me to re-enter the portals and find a new home to settle. Many long seasons i dwelt in Yliakum, many faces i had and many friends i saw step through the same portal that i am heading towards. I have been distressed by the politics, the community and those who prefer to offer torment, not guidance. My heart has been torn in many directions and have now lost my love for the world.
There are those who once called me friend, though kept many secrets from me, those who i guided towards good, in turn, sent evil misfortune my way. I feel a corruption inside, bred within by a force that only the land itself could wield. My will has broken in torment, the pressure built to levels i can know longer withstand.
My name is Slae, though this has no revelance to you, i am a chameleon, shapeshifter or amorphic as would technically describe my kind. I have been known as Sioben, Casequl, Xorlak, Hoodaya, Sendar, Ghotrek, Iroc, Bengali and others that i have not the memory for. I have also been known as a thief, poet, warrior, knowledge keeper, ruthless killer, merchant and most recently, stalker. This last was an insult to me, for i hold strong to my honour and have little give in my will.
The heart is a strange beast and sometimes carries our souls on mysterious paths.....Farewell Yliakum

This is the most poetic leaving thread I've ever seen.
-
Farewell Slae, may you find what you look for in some far away land...
-
This sucks. All the good RPers are leaving... :'(
-
Farewell Slae, hope you decide to come back some day. :'(

Eldoth nods, but remains silent, thinking that this needed to be said twice.

The community is always dying. Just as it is always reborn. Some player is just finding PS now, and will make it a world of his own after making many mistakes, and learning how to play. He will make a great many friends with folks who are here already, or just joining as new as he. They will teach each other, and learn together. Slowly, those friends will stop playing as they become bored, tired, or irrititated at all the new folks coming in who do not know how to play right. In a year, or maybe two, that same player who just read this thread will write one of his own, meaning almost the same thing, and he will be gone. But, at the same time, a new face enters the game, and perhaps reads the thread he just wrote. She shrugs, and goes to see if it is true...and finds out is is not. Not for her anyways. Not yet.
The Community is not dying. It just -is-.

Under the Moon is right. 'The Community' means different things to different people.

Very well said Under the moon

What he's saying is that the sky isn't falling.

Under the Moon is right. The community is not dying and not too much has changed.

The community is always dying.
Do you seriously not listen to anyone? :P
-
I'm inspired by your ability to take things in context.
-
Alright, I just read 5 posts by the same people saying "Under the Moon is right" ...
-
How many ways can you guys say the same thing while still managing to disagree?
Very well said, Utm. Two years ago, I was a hapless n00b, and a lot of the older players were complaining about "all the good RPer's leaving." I did in fact shrug and go about by business, but by now I've learned that certainly not all of them had left. And now certainly not all of them have. There is a steady current here.

I may not understand code, graphics systems, networks, and many other things, but I do understand people.
-
Its a game. People leave. If they are your good friends email them, they are probably playing another game, join along if you miss them.
To tell you the truth, I thought people were leaving but its ussualy just gossip, ask the person. :detective:
-
The point is that people are always leaving.
-
Or atleast, always saying that they are leaving.
Farewell, Templar, see you someday, I hope.
-
Ok ok..........I may pop back in, on occasion. No doubt i'll get all reminiscent someday, frustrated with Rappelz one downfall"Roleplay", and create a new character. Who shall I be next?.....hmmmm*rubs hands together*.
I do appreciate the replies("thought nobody cared"*wipes away tears**grins*)
But like most things in life, lessons learnt, move before burnt. Of course i'll miss my friends in game, though I think i'll play a noob, coming to grips with this newfound world that only half works.......occasionally. I doubt i will be missed that much....too many character changes and no real friendships made OOC(except one, half of why I deleted my old chars.). It is amazing how immersive PS can become, once one heeds the words of the wise.
The Collins pocket dictionary, I have here in my hands, describes "Community" as,[ Body of people with something in common, building for communal activities, joint ownership, religion, etc.] ;)for those who wondered.
-
just for my personal understanding ...
The community is always dying. Just as it is always reborn. Some player is just finding PS now, and will make it a world of his own ...
you think a football-team with only 16 year old hotheads is more valuable than a team with some routiniers in it ?
Its a game. People leave. If they are your good friends email them, they are probably playing another game, join along if you miss them.
Does this mean ... "Go ahead ... $%&$ off ... we don't mind ?
I'm a bit astonished by this thread ...
-
Err, Fozz. I think you are taking this a bit...far.
Moon is just saying that the community is always changing. Old players leave, new players leave, new players join, old players come back.
As for Volund, he is just saying "don't take it too seriously, it's not like they are dieing".
Methinks a chill pill is in order :P
-
*/me "chills a pill" ... ;D
maybe I took it a bit "far" okay ... but whenever I write something into the forum, I think about the possibility of beeing misunderstood, because noone sees my face when I'm writing or hears the sound of beeing ironic or whatever.
So there are always several ways to read a posting ... and this ... above ... is what I read there ...
-
I know exactly what you mean.
It's the reason I try to use smiley's, actualy. Sure, you can't see my face, but look at what this yellow one is doing :P
Misunderstanding the "tone" of a post is one of the things that leads to flamewars and, usualy, it's the writer's fault as much as it is the reader's.
Best thing to do, is assume the best. \\o//

The community is dying though, just like a lily dies in Autumn and comes back in Spring. The community from two years ago is all but dead, and the new community has risen in its place. To the newbie that's just joined, we aren't 'the community'. At least not yet. If someone left tomorrow, the newbie never would've considered them part of 'the community', even though we might. He wouldn't consider that a death of 'the community', either. But we might. 'The community' means different things to different people...

Finally, someone who's smart.

Also known as Shakespeare to some.
(Truthfully, he spelt his name a variety of different ways so it doesn't really matter.)

That is one of the reasons for the theory that the works of Shakespeare were actually a gathering of work from other writers of the day in that region. ???

During that time in history, all words and names had multiple spellings... John, Jon, Gion... the same guy might spell his own name differently each time. It was common.

I find it amusing that one who has obviously been standing outside the community looking in registered only fortnight ago and only posts mention a community that is dying.
Farewell but consider if you had become more involved in the community outside the actual game then maybe you could prevent it's "death"

Like Under the Moon said, this community is always dieing and getting reborn at the same time. People come and go but its much more easy to notice in planeshift since it has such a smaller community.
I see the Planeshift Community as "generations" There are the AB players which were before me and under the moon, the MB players which is when i found planeshift, the people who joined planeshift when cb came out (i remember the community got way bigger with the release of cb), then the people who i tend to see now who are coming in the middle of cb.
I obviously never come here any more as most of you have no idea who i am, its not that I gave up on planeshift its just that all the friends I spent like 2 years getting to know vanished so i didnt have much of a reason to stay any more.

Someone goes away, a new one comes, and some times even an old one returns :)
