Title: going old school
Post by: Efflixi Aduro on March 06, 2007, 07:13:37 am
Okay so I was looking at random setup files I had decided to keep and i foudn the one for MB which made me come on the forums and now im posting this topic.  ;D

This made me think of the good ol' days where ps was nothing more than the hydlaa plaza and everyone would run around hunting crystals. Also those random contests we would make for the crystal giveaways and stuff. So for those people who remember MB, lets take a moment to remember what planeshift used to be like.

I hope this doesn't become a thread about how everything used to be so much better in MB. I enjoyd MB, but by far not as much as I enjoyed CB.

To me MB was:
- crystal hunting
- glitching
- roleplaying
- "hanging out"

Everything used to be Soooo much better in MB.

What I miss? The endless circle running contests with Veromen.

That's right people... that's what we did back then. Collect rubies and run in circles.

Nah, Parallo has been bothering me everywhere I go. Now I see he has discovered me on the forum as well!

I don't bother anyone... Except Vengeance... I'm going to leave now.

But anyway, you missed the running in circles. It was a blast!

MB was really about the people, not the game. If you "soloed" in MB and thought it fun, you have some sort of disorder :P Because there was almost no in-game content aside from the world, character models, and several items, all you could do was make friends and enemies. And because we're such social animals and bond to each other rather easily, that's really what we miss. It's not MB, it's those who were there with us when we were starting out.

The crystals...must...find...the crystals...Sooo pretty...

I remember my first diamond crystal, stolen from under the nose of Rumblebelly...I think it was Rumble, in the dungeons.

MB was awesome, because the people were awesome.
And because I was there...that's a big one.

The main thing I remember was Half as many people, twice as many weddings :P

And complaining about stuff with Grakrim and Golmir...
So many memories :D

I remember when the first Internal Alpha came out and I found a bug to limitlessly increase your speed until you fell through the level. But then again, I'm just an old forum troll :(

Yeah, it was so much fun, everyone used to just stand in the temple, chatting. Sometimes someone would go out and make "crystal art" or glitch up some building.

I like CB :P

I remember when I was new to PS I drove Cad insane with like 500 questions a day.
My first diamond was by the ladder in the dungeon that lead to the really steep path.
The cool people were always the ones with weapons though i think those came much later in MB. People spent hours and hours to get a useless sword that they would simply use to show off and rp.
I forgot who it was, maybe there was more than one, but he was so into rping he refused to enter the temple and he would always stand outside...
Oh and glitching up to the roof of the temple and making a line of people on the top. Good stuff. :)

And you all really had nothing better to do? Like watching paint dry? :P
(Y'know, with friends...)

Two Reasons I never tried MB

1) I didn't know of Planeshift existence in that time.

2) Unreal 1, Unreal Tournament, Soldier of Fortune 1 and 2, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Civilization III, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape Torment, Fallout 2(not necessarily on this order) among others occupied most of my time as a gamer thus I did not have the interest of searching for free games(except for one called Vegastrike that I discovered when I installed a Linux distro for the first time, because it had a installation script for it, the first OpenSource game I played  ;) ), anyway all of them were certainly more fun for me and if I knew MB I would certainly dismiss it as I would prefer Tetris or dominoes than hunting crystals and running around in circles.  :P

Civilization III... game is gooooood ^^

I always liked the idea of MB, where everyone focused more on rp and relationships, and just having a good time.. .Less competition. But I like the bigger size of yliakum, the idea of just hydlaa sounds closterphobic(sp) to me. But people still hang out, run in circles, and chat.

Just go to harnquists or Kada-els. :D
