Title: Annual (or is that bi-annual? or tri...?) Visit from Moogie
Post by: Moogie on March 20, 2007, 06:49:46 pm
Hey all! I was a bit bored today so I decided to stop by and visit my old "home" again. I like to stop by periodically, and it has been a long time since I last did. So here's what I've been up to. :)

After leaving PS, I spent quite a long time playing Silkroad, and was a regular at SilkRoadForums.com. I eventually stopped posting there and just bummed around the 'net for a while, trying different games. Me and Ayshe started a secret project, but we put it on hiatus for a while. We might pick it up again sometime. After that I became "GM Chica" for Carpe Diem MMORPG (my first 'real' job in the games industry, hurrah!). But the company, Persistent Worlds, ceased trading after a short while (due mainly to shortsighted marketing, and issues with an incompetant billing company *coughSecureAccountcough*).

But it wasn't all bad. I got a reference for my CV (Resume for any yanks reading), and met/became friends with Phil White (from Codemasters) who has been sending me lots of game industry contacts and trying to get me a job in all sorts of places like Sega and Codemasters. I havn't got in anywhere yet, though, so I'm still on the job-hunt.

PAY ME TO MAKE U ARTZ PLX KTHX.

So, today, I was wondering what I could do to fill up my portfolio a bit, and thought of Planeshift. So excuse me but I'm going to steal a few meshes and reskin them. :P Or if any of the devs have something that's in need of a texture, send me a PM, I'll take some of the load off.

I didn't browse around the forums much, but it looks... the same, I guess. :) A lot of new faces, a lot of the same nitpicking. "They use smileys in /me's, that's wrong!!" Bleh. Zanzibar sent me a few emails a while ago saying I should return, but I, er, politely declined. A visit is nice and all, but I don't belong amongst all these new "hardcore" RP nutters. I'm from the Molecular Blue family, and damn proud of it! I miss those days of friendship and fun, nobody cared if you didn't follow strict RP "rules", the community wasn't so anal and aggressive.

But I digress, so let's change the subject. How is development going? Have they got rid of PP yet? Any new areas since they opened the Bronze Doors? That's the last bit of info I heard a while ago. Is Kary still rocking everyone's world with her awesome skillz? :D

Hi to anyone of the following who might still be around: Kary, Vengie, Acraig, Harlekin, Djagg, Taser, Kiirani, Rerogo, Aender, AryHann, Induane, Xordan, aarobber (did you find a replacement to boss around when I left? ;)), DaveG, jorrit!!!!, TomT, Dorbian, Xandria, Xenia, Draklar, Pogopuschel, Nefron, stfrn!!!, all of Felines Lair (because I can't recall most of the names), Dancer, the amazing awesome josePhoenix, UndertheMoon, Shooree, steuben, and a hundred other people I really can't remember the names of, because most of these came from my MSN list. My memory sucks, but if I missed your name here, here's a special hug just for you: *biiig squeeezy hug of love*

Not much new art is up at my site (http://albinomoogie.net), but feel free to look around there too. (Thanks Thom ;))

I'll check back here for replies for a while, but if anyone needs to contact me, find me here: http://z11.invisionfree.com/CarpeKin/index.php? or send me an email (Address is on my site).

Keep on rocking the opensource world, Planeshift. ;]

It only seems like people are freaking out over RP rules because of how bad things are in-game at times.

While you're here, do you feel like making some new character models?  :woot:
Title: Re: Annual (or is that bi-annual? or tri...?) Visit from Moogie

Miss Moogie does not make the models, she arts them with her colouriZing skillz.

Whoots on the job searches, success, and even the failings (if we did not have those last ones, the successes would look and feel a lot less sweet).

As to the nitpicking, how could it be PS -without- the nitpicking? *grins* It keeps us real.

How is development going? Steady as she goes. New hair on some of the ladies, new poses all around (but not for the sad little elf model). A lot of /<do this> text emotes that I am sure will have animations for them eventually. And there is the Winch, which I can not tell you about, as none of my characters are interested in going there (not a single one out of twelve). Crafting is being tweeked. Oh, and there was a rather amusing 'economy' crash caused by a duplication bug. Xillix and Kerol have been adding tons of new quests (not that I do any of them, but I know they work hard). Combat is harder to Dash-N-Slash now, but still a lot of three point running and turning. Mushrooms are back, but are now dark.

There are still PP, but many people (including myself) are still fighting the good fight to bannish them. *ducks a swing from Venge*

And yes, Karyuu -always- rocks.

But, if you find yourself longing to return to your once home, but do not think you would fit back in, you will find yourself surprised. The core and heart of the game is still free spirited roleplaying. That is where I live, and it is the core of the Sheeples.

Actually I think Venge would agree with your standpoint on that, Moon. :)

Eek, I forgot how hard it is to reskin PS models without the original UV unwrap. I wonder if I could tickle the Yulbar one out of Karyuu... *concocts diabolical plan*

I looked for it as soon as I read the post, but I can't seem to locate it anywhere :< I wonder if it got lost during one of my HDD cleanups. That would be tragic..

We had a Vampire role play thing going on earlier, which although not being a complete utter Rp nut, and rarely actually going in game nowerdays (I;m a forum lurker :D) I still objected too and so did everyone. But I think the RP thing is going  in the kinda revolutionaty circle. LIberalism - communism -anachy - fascism.   Or whatever it is. At the moment I think were kinda at the Anarchy stage and  Fascism is  attempting to rise.

the community wasn't so anal and aggressive.

The community has always been "anal and aggressive", you were in fact part of that.  It just depends on what side of the fence you're on as to whether or not you notice it.

It's a Moogie...

Let's see...I remember

Getting slapped by you! Aha, good times...Happened quite a bit I think.

I like to think there were fewer whiners back in MB...not much to whine about really, you can't much complain about the crystal picking up system.  And with fewer whiners comes less Anality (new work) and agressiveness.  Back then it was rampant RS prejudice :P

I'll the same o/ Moogie.

(I used to go by Waylander and Cadoras...you slapped me while I was Waylander :P)

I wasn't going to say it.

If anything, things are more relaxed now than they were a couple of years ago.

Are you serious?

Ok, I don't know what delusions you people have built up about somewhat earlier Planeshift, but there has always always been more than enough people whining.  People attacked others often and (apparently) backstabbed their friends.  It happened plenty, I had much to laugh about.

may the spirit of pwnage be with you

edit: took time to stop by your art page, so peaceful atmosphere in your pictures. They look good =D

Peacer, thanks for stopping by and looking around, it's appreciated. :] Yeah, I am looking for my next mod job. Since PS I've learned quite a bit, and well, just ask any former Carpe Diem player what the GMs were like. :) We were goooood, hehe. I miss that game terribly.

Xanacru, ugh I know. Silkroad is a mess. I stopped playing a year or two back, before botting became quite as prevalent as it is today, but even when I did play those quests were enough to destroy your soul. But, that game has something you can't pinpoint; some appeal that makes it so addictive. I have no idea. The forum community helped (SRF, not the 'official' forum), but these days even that has been taken over by pre-pubescent kids and bot-users. :( I played it for months through the horrible, horrible grind. What was I thinking? The only thing that stopped me playing was realising the futility of the game - futility against the botters, hackers, scammers, but also the futility against the level grind. I reached level 57 and just could not go on any more. I'd never play it again though.

Anyone here in the 2Moons 'first 100 players' thing? Meet you there! I'll be called Moogie, unsuprisingly. :)

Moogie,

That is why I stay away from any "free" games that involve item shops requiring real currency. Every single one of those games is centered around that "business" model (aka trap). The closest thing to a free and complete MMORPG I found was Anarchy Online Classic with Notum Wars expansion. That is because the Classic and Notum Wars were a commercial game originally, backed by the real monthly payments. It still runs on commercial servers and is backed by member payments for their Shadowlands, Alien Invasion, and Lost Eden expansion packs. Every other free MMORPG pales in comparison. As the saying goes, "Only cheese samples are free".

Thanks for the tip mate(Add to that I found another free MMORPG as well that seems to have more future). Now I will play PS on a monthly or weekly basis until its development reaches a better stage. In other words, Soon(TM) :P (Or after January 15th 2008 perhaps)

Still I'm not leaving PS on the strict sense of the word, just reducing my play time even more(Basically, when I'm in the mood for pure RPing, I will go with IRC Planeshfit, when I want to see some action and thrill, I will go with other games).
