New char, fighting rats :)
The problem is that during combat I suddenly stop attacking. The rat keeps on gnawing at me, but my char just stands there.
I've noticed that this happens when physical stamina (fatigue) drops to 80+ values. If I cancel the attack (white flag) and let my stamina recover I can renew the attack and finish off the rat This may be by design, but in that case I'd say that the stamina threshold is way too high - as I said, this happens while I still have 80+ % stamina.
If it's any help, I'm playing a male cat with no weapons (yet).
TY

This seems to happen. Sometimes you can deselect the target and restart the fight to resume doing damage.

What's your mental stamina at?
I have noticed that in the past, if you go with full out attack (bloody), you can fight even if your mental stamina is at 0 %. Otherwise, once your mental stamina reaches a certain point, no more attacking from you. ;)

I don't think it has anything to do with that, I think there is a bug in there somewhere that derails combat, I've had it happen frequently to me and I had it happen to an Ulber I fought today, I stopped attacking and when I re-targeted it stopped attacking.

OK, I did some further checking.
Bilbous is right, you have to exit combat somehow and re-enter it for the random number generator to reseed (my guess, who knows?)
It also happens to the monsters, they just stop attacking and stand there and take it. unfortunately the AI doesn't know how to work around bugs :)
Mental stamina always at 100%, I don't use magic (yet)
Cheers

There is definitely something odd going on. I'm in the arena fighting the kran glads and they keep losing their swords during the fight! I had someone watch me and they saw the sword the whole time even though it vanished for me.

Yeah, the stopping thing happens to me as well. I' haven't noticed any stat that's low when it happens. I just stop attacking and then start again. Damn. There's coffee on my monitor.

If you are not using weapons but your bare hands, mental stamina is not used. I guess brawling is a "mindless" activity. ;)
The stoppages is a known bug. Until its fixed (likely the next release, although it might not have anything to do with the client so might be able to be fixed without a new client) the best suggestion for a work-around is to create a shortcut that retargets and begins your attack. Something like:
/target clear
/target nearest npc
/attack #
where # is 1-5, 1 being bloody

This is probably a bug, because it keeps happeneing to me, also. The first time i noticed it was when i was fighting rogues in the sewers but it happens on tefus too. Ive tried a bunch of different things to see what causes it but it seems random. Ive tried clicking menus, targeting other opponents, even leaving the mouse inactive too long, but it still seems random.
Anyway, just wanted to confirm.

I don't know if this has got to do with the NPC's own stamina. While training armor, I noticed they stopped attacking at all only that some easier targets seem to get "tired" faster. I don't know if this is a bug or just a side-effect to NPC stats. What I do know is that it is annoying, maybe a bit more realistic but I don't think it is well balanced, given the fact that NPCs (rogues, tefusangs, trepors and stronger) usually have so much more HP than any regular playing char would and they shouldn't get tired before them.
Let's call it a bug and have zapped, shall we?
@Myrthe: Good to see ya again ;)
