Title: the curse of [wise and beneficient] corporate firewalls.
Post by: steuben on April 11, 2007, 04:54:16 pm
arrg.... they final closed off irc here.
guess i shouldn't complain, well too loudly. i mean i'm not suppose to be on it here. before they used to just block the servers names and then the ips. well i think they have just blocked the port... should have done it in the first place. well i guess i've have to go to alternate means to get this back up and  running.

probably should have done alternate means in the first place. but oh well.

nope. it looks like the firewall may be flagging on irc.cgi in the address name.

but then it also looks like they have cranked things down too tight. alot of the stuff that i need access to they have killed... like the various mail servers that i have to talk to.

silly techs. think they, know... what... their... i think i won't finish that thought.

The techs are probably just doing what management is telling them to do.  The techs are probably on your side in this and most likely warned management that such problems would happen, only to have their warnings ignored.  It's just how corporations work.

nah, the fools managed to break our vpn too. so my pipe is coming out in the wrong part of the world, which makes it harder to access the other thrid of the stuff that i need to access. that and somehow i'm getting 500 ms pings to google.

i remember at school getting round basic url filters by adding the an ascii code for a letter, it wouldn't work on sites where the content was blocked, just the URL:

that and, at tafe, meebo [web msn] doesnt work, but i nifty thing i learnt in highschool, if they just block URL's, put a question mark on the very end ;D
