I used to have an Art thread in here which can be found ---> http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=23656.60 here. It is a bit outdated and in the mean time I develloped a bit, like we all do. I'd like to restart and show you some of my work for improvements and comments, as well as just for fun. I hope that this time I can keep up the pace and regularly provide new pictures to look at.
I like using a tablet with Artrage and Blender for modeling. Here is some of my work for you to see.
Tablet and Artrage:

You're starting to become really good, Prog, keep at it :]
-
Did some color experimenting, and I'm not hugely disaapointed with the outcome, thus, I share with thee.

Let me know what you think :)
-
why do you have naughts and crosses (tic-tac-toe for some) as part of your signature? :P

Well made! You seem to have a good eye for shadows.

Spellforce or WTF?

Looking good Proglin
One question, why do you have the connecting sections on the second above ground level on your buildings ? There is no access to the area on top, and no protection from the elements.

One question, why do you have the connecting sections on the second above ground level on your buildings ? There is no access to the area on top, and no protection from the elements.
The reasons are mainly playing with architecture and textures, as practice for more, bigger and better things to come, But you are definitally right. I could just place some rooftiles on it for a more realistic building. OR a door in either of the walls to which the connection section is attached.
-
I think it looks interesting, you could add something which keeps the water from reaching the door.
-
looks excellent mate, especially the blender stuff :D. One note on the last of the 3d pics though, the roof seems to have quite a high level of specularity making it look very bright compared to the surrounding area - looks good though - your textures seem very "planeshifty" (have they added that word to the dictionary yet?) ;).
-
wow, they're all really great, I wish I could model/draw like that! I could really see that grolem in planeshift :D however, I can't really see that deer in PS... I find it too real and modern ... maybe add a dinosaur touch to it?

Right on both acounts :) The lighting is still to be looked at and most of the textures indeed come from Planeshift, the cobblestones, doors and straw roofs are textures of my own though.
however, I can't really see that deer in PS... I find it too real and modern ... maybe add a dinosaur touch to it?
None of the drawings are intended for Planeshift, The models are Planeshift related though, mainly because of the textures. However, I might create a dinosaury-ish deer, like the concept of it :)
I think it looks interesting, you could add something which keeps the water from reaching the door.
Why didn't I think of that? :P Some sort of gutter right before the steps start might solve the problem of possible fluds and tremendously wet feet. Thankees!
*Edit*

Hurray! Practice in texture creation was a succes :) I always had trouble with creating textures and still kinda have. The above picture contains only home made textures, apart from the wood which I stole from the internet. If you see something that doesn't look good to you, let me know please.
-
Add some NPC's and this could be the begining of the Hydlaa market.Come to think of it all major towns had markets in the midleages. Why doesent Hydlaa have one ???/me starts a protest for a market
-
Did-think would-see pictures of pencil-picking...
-
Hi,
Very nice, I especially like the latest market picture. I'd add little longer feet for the stands, unless they're meant to be bolted on the ground, to add some stability. The golem creature is interesting too, makes me want to model it. Keep it up! :)
-
Just to show you the textures and the items on sale at the market, here's the merchandise. The oranges still need some work, the texture isnot seamless yet. I did get some blue berry texture from a gifted friend of mine which will most likely be used in my next market. Untill then, we have a market that sells oranges, half oranges, quarter oranges and many more oranges!

-
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!
I wish I could model and create textures like that! lol, I'm trying to learn how to use blender after I abandoned 3ds max (3ds max is more user friendly, but the possibilities are far too great to a noob, whereas blender is doesn't have as many possibilities but is less user friendly...)
-
A bit dark. Try touching it up with a few level and contrast tweaks if you're using Photoshop :) Otherwise, if they're handmade they're really good. Also, you can create new unique surfaces with clone stamp and a soft blend with Healing Brush.

I got a serious problem with lighting, even in Blender. If anyone could PM me a proper tutorial on ligting I would be ever so happy. The textures are relatively light, but the lighting makes everything a lot darker.
-
Maybe up the resolution on the skeliton one?
-
Hello again all! It's been a while since I created something worthwhile. So time to show you my latest work. So fromout the shadow of Karyuu's way to awsome latest building, I present to you a slightly less detailed yet ok model that made me proud ;)

why are there steps going to a small patch of grass? Rather strange courtyard garden. :D. Besides that very nice, altough the fence looks abit stoney rather than woody.
-
Perhaps a hand crafted Marble fence ;) A little bit of the country in a city homes courtyard is quite nice. Have you ever tried to get a tan laying on cobble stone :P
Maybe a narrow row of flowers bordering the grass would be nice?
Good work
-
Or better yet there could be a statue of a dvarvven king or something in the midle.
Still realy nice work there Proglin.I wonder if your models will go in-game anytime soon?
-
All this stuff is cool. Keep it up!

There are some trees in progress to fit on the patch of grass, unfortunately, my tree-building skills are extremely poor still, so in due time I'll show you what I got :)

A statue might be a good idea as well, or one of those small fountains. As for my models coming ingame soon? No, I don't thiink they will. When I improve my skills I might apply for the team in the distant future, but as for now it's a very pleasent hobby.
Thanks for all the comments people :) really appriciated.

I dont think its a bigie Proglin <Insert encouragement for modeling here>.I would encourage you would some fancy saying or something but im just to syched up right now....Sorry. :)
-
I was thinking about the patch of grass again, and I thought you could have water there. It wasnt uncommon for wealthier folks to have either a drinking, or bathing well (sometimes one in the same) within thier courtyard.
Just a though, and once again, Great stuff
-
har har har!!! I've been gone. and now i'm back. and now it's time for an update. and now Iwould like to get some feedback :)
1st floor mansion, not finished.

Same, also not finished.
Proud to say i only stole 2 of the textures of the net and made the rest myself.
-
Wonderful stuff. For some reason, it makes me think of something a Lemur would live in.
-
Your modeling work is amazing. If you think you have the time, you should consider applying for the Planeshift team's art department, particularly architectural modeling.
Karyuu, are you reading this? ;)
-
eheh you got one of your picture within one of your pictures ^^ spellforce ftw.. mind seconed one was too easy. and its buged at the end ><

Good eye ;)
-
well he is not egzackly a small guy ^^
-
Well this one sure as hell doesn't get an originallity reward, cause supposedly, there have been some one-eyed-monsters flying, crawling, creeping and lurking arround in many fantasy worlds. After some time I opened up Artrage again, whiped the dust of my tablet and started experimenting with colours a bit. Colours are not my favorite thingies you see? I I would like to recieve some feedback on my colour useage in this one.
oh... while typing I saw the tongue of the beasty seems to grow out of it's upperlip. well... maybe I'll go for the very first creature with a tongue on his upper lip. I bet no one ever did that before.
-
Why is this red one-eyed ostrich holding a leaf in its beak :>
Hehe, it's really good.
-
I like it, however the colour scheme looks like what we are seeing is the muscle rather than the skin.
-
It was supposed to be a bit mushy fleshy looking, did that work out ok?
-

its not a tongue, its a mustache!
-

I do love that look, it makes me think of something that would live in a soft enviroment (no hard rocks) but could still if needed to pose a threat (or at least an annoyance) to any wanderer.
-
hey is it the one eye monster from small soldiers?
never the less it has the strange but cool effect of where ever you stand in the room it seems to be looking at you.....
-
I don't know, sometimes something just comes out of my head onto the paper. I like this one, critisism would be welcome :) Oh, it's heavily inspired by Royo.

Very good artwork, Proglin! Especially since you said this sketch was spontaneous. You are quite talented.
-
Awesome. Your style has caught something here. The proportions simply feel right. You're beginning to show great skills in drawing realistically :]
-
cool.. i wish i could draw thing is even my stickmen look tacky :@#\
-
Thanks for all the useful comments everyone :)
Thought my previous drawng needed a hooded sister. this one is made for shadow practice and trying to maintain the style of the previous one. Alhough less detailed, I'm fond of the drawing. C&C is welcome :)

Your art is visibly improving. I like it. so does my husband.
-
Very good. Continue developing the things you're best at and the other areas will look better because the best booster is developing what you're best at. Your selfconfidence increases as well, increasing your productivity or time put into one piece.
This method is as effective as it can be dangerous though. All the time you climb a singleway ladder which only leads you up. A big leap to the other skills of the trade proves a brave task the higher you step.
There might be a bridge on a reasonable altitude, or a friend, already soaring high, who aids you in your trials. I can assure that you will find bridges, patience is a virtue when it comes to the trade.
What I ask of you is consider this: Do you want to take the step up towards the heavens, developing a bland span of areas in small scale, fully mastering one craft, or discover what is hidden beneath and develop a wide area of medias nurturing little specialization.
The latter requires great patience to specialize in a few areas and the first requires much humbleness of you, not easily derived from the acknowledged selfconfidence.
I chose to climb high until my knuckles hurt.
Make your move.
-
Very purrty!
Question: does the girl with the sword have a piercing under her lower lip?

I've gotten busier i'm affraid. partially cause of good things, partially because of bad things. The idea is still very much alive and all work is still kept with me. If I realize I will not be able to realize the ideas I had within a certain time-span, I will start looking for someone that might want to take over that project. very sorry Suno
-
Heh, it was kinda fun. Especially with that chuck norris card that was posted. :P
-
about the one-eyed beast, it is definatly origanal. This being said I still think the color scheme may need improving especially because the eye and skin are practically the same color. I think it would be best if the skin or eye's color was changed. Otherwise good work on all your drawings.

Heya all :)
just thought I'd show you a little something, it's not done yet, but I think the concept idea is well freaky and kewl

Wow proglin, you have improved a whole hell of alot since I last saw your drawings. I really am liking what I see. Thanks for sharing. \\o//
-
Great. :)
-
That third picture reminds me of Lora Cloth. :P
Err...or however that Tomb Raider girl's name is spelled.
-
That girl has a name? <.<
But yeah, great stuff, Proglin!
-
Lara Croft :\
-
Lora Cloth? How'd you get that? o_o
I thought you quitted, Proglin?

this thread was made before he left us. Though even if he did, there are many people who remain active on the forums despite not being in planeshift. I invite you to continue to drop by proglin ol' friend.
-
Come on, you don't see it? I SWEAR she looks like Lara Croft. Look at some other pictures. :P

And you did Raa. Planeshift>Fan Aera> Fan Art is the only place you'll get to see me ;) I love this thread.
Thanks again everyone for comments.
Suno_regin, I beg to differ ;)

That's the crappy pixelated 3d version of her...I'm referring to the cover of one of those latest Tomb Raider games I saw advertized. :P
Edit: http://img.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/61905/tomb_raider_legend_qjpreviewth.jpg
Not quite the same, but a lot's similar. :P
