Found this while browsing around the web, an interesting 'profiling' of gamers of the genre
http://www.guildcafe.com/bartle.php (http://www.guildcafe.com/bartle.php)
It evaluates the percentages of 4 different aspects of one's reason to play a MMORPG, according to the highest score of one person, these are the definitions.
Achievers - Also known as the 'powerlevellers' - their goal is to get wealth, XP and such
prefer collecting points, levels, treasure and accomplishments that set them apart from other players--or simply present challenges.
Explorers - Look forward for new things, areas and such
enjoy finding all of the unique areas of the world, often enjoying the immersion of the experience.
Killers - Fit on the stereotype of the also not very popular 'PKers', name says it all
prefer the player-versus-player aspect of any game more than anything offered by the environment.
Socializers - Here would be most of the 'roleplayers' of a community, they focus on conversations, forming groups, organizations and circles of friendship.
enjoy interacting with other people, forming organizations, and finding cooperative solutions to the challenges within the virtual world.
My results -
Socializer - 100
That's what I look forward in a MMORPG, if it doesn't exist, a single player game will be more interesting for me.
Explorer - 53.33
I always liked to try finding 'secret levels' on many games
Killer - 40
FPS is one of my favourite genres after all ;), still I prefer combat situations in quality - well roleplayed, interesting twists, etc- , not quantity, something that usually doesn't happen.
Achiever - 6.67
This is a game, not real life, no need to focus all your effort on being on the 'top level characters list'.
SEKA players are usually very interested in the the 'total experience' of a virtual world--meeting other people and finding the unique places within it. They don't care much for PVP or levelling, but meeting up with online friends to see new parts of the world is usually fun and exciting.
Also found another one for general online gaming on that site called 'Online Gamer Playstyle Survey', I guess I got something fitting with my interest on TBS, Tycoon, RTS, 4X and overall 'Something-Building' games, although I hated the final lines of description of the result I got though, too egocentric in my opinion - to like to organize and make tactics do not mean you 'mastered' the game. It was a 'Organizer-Strategist' , AKA 'Field Marshal playstyle.'
You don't care about what type of role you play--you only care about success. You tend to spend a lot of time on the metagame, learning about effective strategies and build concepts.
Note though, my definition of 'success' is not having the most powerlevelled/wealthy/equipped character.
If you would like, go there, and if you wish, give your results here too.
I know there were posts on the same subject, but anyway, taking out of its 'grave' a 2 or 3 years old thread about the same topic would not be good and also this one has the link for another test. So this one is for giving opportunity to the new people who did not post on those threads and also has another extra test too related with the same matter. I'll link to the old thread, if you are curious to see results from the people who posted on it -

Though I may be wrong, it seems a bit obvious to me that the 'Socializer' types are the focus of Planeshift. While MMOGs are more suitable for the 'Achiever' and 'Killer' types.

Based on your answers, you are SEKA.
Breakdown: Achiever 6.67%, Explorer 73.33%, Killer 26.67%, Socializer 93.33%
SEKA players are usually very interested in the the 'total experience' of a virtual world--meeting other people and finding the unique places within it. They don't care much for PVP or levelling, but meeting up with online friends to see new parts of the world is usually fun and exciting.
I got roughly the same.
-
Achiever 13.33%
[I really don't seek out to get the best gear or the newest items, {galkards, chainmail, etc etc}]
Explorer 53.33%
[I enjoy exploring, but I don't go out of my way at all to do so]
Killer 73.33%
[When irritated typically my characters resolve in violence]
Socializer 60.00%
[Big fan of role play :)]
KSEA players often seek out PVP in a game, but they are looking to socialize with and form alliances with other players who are interested in doing the same. They often seek out guilds or clans that organize formal PVP events, or work on group strategies and tactics.
-
Breakdown: Achiever 26.67%, Explorer 86.67%, Killer 33.33%, Socializer 53.33%
ESKA players often see the game world as a great stage, full of things to see and people to meet. They love teaming up with people to get to the hard-to-see places, and they relish unique experiences.
That's quite what I expected. I'm not too keen on great equipment and I don't like PvP really.
The greatest thing is to explore hidden places with friends.
-
Based on your answers, you are SEKA.
Breakdown: Achiever 6.67%, Explorer 73.33%, Killer 46.67%, Socializer 73.33%

We were just talking about these breakdowns in gamedesign class earlier :) Pretty neat.
-
Yup, that's me.
Based on your answers, you are SEAK.
Breakdown: Achiever 20.00%, Explorer 73.33%, Killer 20.00%, Socializer 86.67%

*edited to add*
Just noticed the second one:
Based on your answers, you are Creator-Supporter.
This combination is also referred to as the Quartermaster playstyle.
You have fun when you make the game fun for others. You tend to be fairly social, and you've taken the time to learn how to make things for other players, and you're interested in playing roles that allow you to support groups. You've been known to work on creating things inside games, only to give them away to help their friends.
-
Based on your answers, you are SKAE.
Breakdown: Achiever 33.33%, Explorer 33.33%, Killer 46.67%, Socializer 86.67%
SKAE players enjoy teamwork and cooperation, but feel that the main challenges of a virtual world come from the other players rather than the environment. They enjoy forming groups and alliances that will pit themselves against other players--and they gain the most satisfaction when they defeat organized groups of other players. When they aren't playing against other players, they enjoy all of the social aspects of the game.
Wow this is much better at telling what I'm like than those spam emails i get. Its got me perfect.
-
Breakdown: Achiever 26.67%, Explorer 80.00%, Killer 20.00%, Socializer 73.33%
ESAK players often see the game world as a great stage, full of things to see and people to meet. They love teaming up with people to get to the hard-to-see places, and they relish unique experiences.
I think, that fits quite well :)
-
Breakdown: Achiever 26.67%, Explorer 66.67%, Killer 26.67%, Socializer 80.00%
SEAK players are usually very interested in the the 'total experience' of a virtual world--meeting other people and finding the unique places within it. They don't care much for PVP or levelling, but meeting up with online friends to see new parts of the world is usually fun and exciting.
^^^ That may sound odd for someone with nearly 2000 hours of FPS experience, but it actually isn't surprising considering my teamplay skills...
-
/me pokes the test, then 'hmmmmm's.
Many of those either/or questions were detestable either way. Often it came down to choosing the lesser of two evils. Thus, the answer for me was completely off base.
Breakdown:
Socializer 80.00% UtM says: If my characters meet new folks, good for them, but I don't go out of my way to do so.
Explorer 73.33% UtM says: Seeing a new place is nice, but only if my character has a reason to go there. Example, I have 0% intrest in going to the Winch.
Achiever 33.33% UtM says: Not much intrest at all in getting the coolest stuff, and no intrest at all in leveling my characters futher than the limit I set for them.
Killer 13.33% UtM says: this would be better set at 0%, as I have no intrest at all in killing other players, and only killing creatures if they are about to burn the roof down over my head.
"SEAK players are usually very interested in the the 'total experience' of a virtual world--meeting other people and finding the unique places within it. They don't care much for PVP or levelling, but meeting up with online friends to see new parts of the world is usually fun and exciting."
UtM says: Hmmmm. I don't think so. The thread of the story, and finding my place in that story is much more interesting than places. Crafting a character and seeing how others react to it, and how it will react to others is often why I log in, not to actually meet others.
For me, I guess they would have to add some new catagories, and a lot of new answers.
Thespian 90%
Manipulator 80%
Observer 70%
-
Breakdown: Achiever 40.00%, Explorer 53.33%, Killer 53.33%, Socializer 53.33%
not sure how acturate that is but there you go.
-
Based on your answers, you are SEAK.
Breakdown: Achiever 20.00%, Explorer 73.33%, Killer 13.33%, Socializer 93.33%
Not overly surprised by the result :)
-
I have to agree with UTM in regards to the choice of answers. There was not one question and answer combo that I thought 'yeah, that is exactly me'. With that in mind, here are my results;
Based on your answers, you are EASK.
Breakdown:
Achiever 60.00%,
Explorer 86.67%,
Killer 13.33%,
Socializer 40.00%
EASK players often live by the phrase 'The journey is often more enjoyable than the destination.' They are motivated by meeting the challenges of the world, but they are usually in no rush--because seeing the creatures and places of the world is even more fun.
-
Breakdown: Achiever 40.00%, Explorer 60.00%, Killer 46.67%, Socializer 53.33%
ESKA players often see the game world as a great stage, full of things to see and people to meet. They love teaming up with people to get to the hard-to-see places, and they relish unique experiences.
Looks like im a general all rounder. Although, most of the questions would get a different answer depending on which game I was considering during answering, be it WoW or PS.
-

A lot of the questions are relative to the game I find.. "two levels of exp or an item which gives you an extra 10% damage" .. I picked the two levels, but it really depends on what gives me the most advantage so it might be the item. So the test itself isn't that great. Fairly accurate for me though.. maybe less on the Achiever and more on the Socializer would be closer.
Edit: I forgot about the other one! Here it is :D
Based on your answers, you are Strategist-Virtuoso.
This combination is also referred to as the Guru playstyle.
These people tend to want to learn all the inns and outs of the game, mastering both the skills and strategies needed for success. They often have an encyclopedic knowledge of the game rules and are able to readily demonstrate their abilities.
-
Yup, that's me.

WOOOT!?
I got the same: Achiever 20.00%, Explorer 73.33%, Killer 20.00%, Socializer 86.67%
Greetings long lost brother! ;D
and I'm a quarter master ::|
Quartermaster playstyle.
You have fun when you make the game fun for others. You've been known to work on creating things inside games ... Dunno about that xD
-
What in the... :o
When I first saw you comment I was... "Alriiiight!" After that I saw that there was a second test and I did that too. Now, after checking your preference again... I'm scared dude. Really. ::|
-
>.> This is too suspicious! <.<
>.> What if I'm schizo?... or you, that you are me, or I am you <.<
>.> Maybe we are born of an higher purpose 8) <.</me starts to make a dairy, and checks if no one else writes in it
Though It can also be the chance of chance! in total there were 50 questions (both tests) So it's 'not-every-daily' but the change that we got the same results is bigger then the chance that the trains run on time ;)
At least we can say that our superior thoughst are shared by other xD

Achiever 20.00%, Explorer 73.33%, Killer 46.67%, Socializer 60.00%
"ESKA players often see the game world as a great stage, full of things to see and people to meet. They love teaming up with people to get to the hard-to-see places, and they relish unique experiences."

im the only KSEA... I feel like such a 1337... Perhaps I don't belong in ps :'(
*EL goes on a non-pvp diet.... and then breaks it when someone says his shoose don't match.*

Hi,
You're all so social! :o I will show you.
Based on your answers, you are EASK.
Breakdown: Achiever 60.00%, Explorer 93.33%, Killer 13.33%, Socializer 33.33%
EASK players often live by the phrase 'The journey is often more enjoyable than the destination.' They are motivated by meeting the challenges of the world, but they are usually in no rush--because seeing the creatures and places of the world is even more fun.
Well, I do like roaming in the wilderness, checking what's behind every stone, can't deny that. Also has tendencity to hoard treasures, as long as it doesn't involve killing. ;)
Based on your answers, you are Supporter-Virtuoso.
This combination is also referred to as the Jack-of-all-Trades playstyle. You are the type of player who likes to fill whatever role is needed in a group; you're not necessarily an expert on all aspects of the game, but you've dabbled with enough that you're comfortable taking on many different challenges. In games that allow multiple types of roles, you probably have several that you switch between depending on the situation. Those who are more interested in guiding and leading the organization look to you as a great resource.
Hmm, perhaps.
-
Based on your answers, you are EKSA.
Breakdown: Achiever 33.33%, Explorer 60.00%, Killer 60.00%, Socializer 46.67%
EKSA players might be descibed as living by slogan: see the world, meet interesting people...and kill them. Immersion within the world is important to these players, because they love finding new things to explore--but they also enjoy the thrill of the hunt and finding other players within the world to fight.
:whistling:
-
Based on your answers, you are SAKE.
Breakdown: Achiever 53.33%, Explorer 26.67%, Killer 53.33%, Socializer 66.67%
SAKE players enjoy socializing more than anything else, but they also like to achieve the goals within the game. Often, the increase in social status that comes with defeating a powerful foe or finding a unique treasure is more important than the achievement itself. They also enjoy being part of a team that tries to accomplish great deeds, often finding as much satisfaction in the success of the group as with oneself.
**Throws away any thoughts of joining the Explorers** :P
I'm an alcohol player, I win :D
-
One thing I would like to note before giving my results.
I think the type of player I role-play as and the game would make a huge difference in the answers. Some of the questions were tough and I was split 50-50 between, so I chose a random one...Probably why everything was close for mine. A lot of them had to do with gaining power versus exploring, or killing versus exploring. I am split because I would normally do one, then do the other once I got bored, and didn't mind which i would do first.
Breakdown: Achiever 46.67%, Explorer 60.00%, Killer 40.00%, Socializer 53.33%
-
Ah. I also missed the second test, being hidden as it is on the page. I will let you decide if this result fits me.
Based on your answers, you are Organizer-Creator.
This combination is also referred to as the Architect playstyle.
You are looking for a part of the virtual world to call your own. More than simply creating a guild or leading groups, you like to give people a sense of community. In games that allow you to create cities or environments for your guild, you're likely to spend a lot of time customizing and tailoring it to the type of environment you want to have. You may also spend a lot of time outside of the game providing an Internet-based communication medium for your group.
-
iuuuuu!
Based on your answers, you are SKEA.
Breakdown: Achiever 0.00%, Explorer 46.67%, Killer 66.67%, Socializer 86.67%
SKEA players enjoy teamwork and cooperation, but feel that the main challenges of a virtual world come from the other players rather than the environment. They enjoy forming groups and alliances that will pit themselves against other players--and they gain the most satisfaction when they defeat organized groups of other players. :innocent:
I enjoy cooperation...

I missed the second also
Based on your answers, you are Supporter-Creator.

Second test first:
Based on your answers, you are Supporter-Virtuoso.
This combination is also referred to as the Jack-of-all-Trades playstyle. Those who are more interested in guiding and leading the organization look to you as a great resource.
And the first one:
Based on your answers, you are SEAK.
Breakdown: Achiever 46.67%, Explorer 86.67%, Killer 6.67%, Socializer 93.33%
SEAK players are usually very interested in the the 'total experience' of a virtual world--meeting other people and finding the unique places within it. They don't care much for PVP or levelling, but meeting up with online friends to see new parts of the world is usually fun and exciting.

ESKA players often see the game world as a great stage, full of things to see and people to meet. They love teaming up with people to get to the hard-to-see places, and they relish unique experiences.
Here's mine. I might as well give all my swords and armour away to the needy.
-
Supporter-Creator (Quartermaster)
SEAK (Achiever 53.33%, Explorer 66.67%, Killer 0.00%, Socializer 80.00%)

I would say that if it's not in the right pew, it's at least in the right church. :)

I often do think that I would have ended up an explorer if I hadn't been snapped up by FL

I love finding and finishing things like quests before everyone else does, then giving the answers to all my friends, and bragging about being the first for the next.. Hmm, how long has it been since the familiar quest came out? XP
-
:offtopic:
Kii was the first person to complete the familliar quest chain.
I think her results are acurate. :)

Based on your answers, you are AEKS.
Breakdown: Achiever 93.33%, Explorer 53.33%, Killer 46.67%, Socializer 6.67%
AEKS players are interested in the player-versus-environment aspect of the game more than anything else. They are often soloists who want to achieve and see what the world has to offer. Often, they find groups cumbersome and PVP to be more an annoyance than a feature.
Was a fairly accurate test as far as I can see

you are Supporter-Organizer.
This combination is also referred to as the Impresario playstyle.
You provide a foundation for other players to enjoy the game. You tend to help other people achieve their goals before you do things for yourself, hoping to reap later rewards in the form of loyalty and dedication to growing a guild or clan.
Well atleast now i know what kind of player i am :). But i like to level up magic hmmm ???

RP->Fighting->Exploring->leveling... sounds about right... don't think I really needed a test to tell me that though
