Inanimate = not animated, dead, non-living.

As for the second one, I have no clue.

sometimes the server messes up and even though you may have something selected, you dont have it really selected, like you see it highlighted (first pic) but really a differnt object was selcted. As for the second pic, i owuld have to say that its a player. :) so you couldnt attack the player, or the wall. ;)
