I knew it was hex the second I saw it. The side effects of having an exam where conversions by hand are needed a few days ago :P

You could have made it harder by converting the hex to octal or decimal, or both (or more).

At some point I've run into a puzzle that required translating something looking suspiciously like that, so I  googled "hex translator" and stuck it in :)

Hex isn't hard (thankfully). Math conversion is easy (convert base x to 16), and letter conversion is just ascii hex codes for each character.

Yes, but those things still take a while (particularly the ASCII bit) if you don't do it frequently. I could see it taking a good 10 minutes, possibly more, depending on how tired I was.

At least it wasn't in " 13375|*34|( ", of course there is a translator for it as well

Now... I have three things to add:

Well a very quick rough explanation (and probably minor errors as I'm tired) for noobs.

Computer signals have two possible states: On and Off ie "1" and "0" (Which is why power buttons have this mark)
Binary is a number system made of 2 numbers: "1" and "0" Counting in binary goes like this:
0 1 10 11 100 101 110 111 etc
Trinary has 3 numbers: "0", "1" and "2" Counting in trinary goes like this:
0 1 2 10 11 12 20 21 22 100 etc

anyway back onto binary is base for all computer singals. So for example when you type the letter  "O" the binary singal that is sent is: "01001111" which tells the computer to do its magic.

Of course you will end up getting very long lines of binary for certain things, perhaps a security key, thats 128 digits long. This is rather long, so hex is used to make things easier to look at.

Hexadecimal uses 16 "numbers":
0123456789ABCDEF

each "number" represents 4 digits of binary for example:

0 = 0000
1 = 0001
7 = 0111
A = 1010
F = 1111

so using the letter "O" again which is: 01001111 in binary, break it up: 0100 1111, 0100 is 4 in hex, 1111 is F in hex. so "O" in hexadecimal is: 4F.

Miadon - "To find flaws in your encoding"  A nice infosplash.

Ps. You actually made me do a converter for myself. :>

I was making it too easy... time for a real challenge!!!
Too bad that anyone can find a converter of numeric systems and a hex-to-text translator on the web
But, time to go with real encryption  :devil:
tough, but not what I would consider impossible
See if you can handle this hackers!

Think outside the box, and as I said, it's not impossible to break, or to guess  ;)
Of course you need the proper software for it.

Here is my conversion of your code:
Code: [Select]
Some very *ahem* original message with no a real meaning at all.
signed by someone

But that is of course with the "Socius, make decoded messages even better to read decodertm"

Wrong, here is a hint: By reading my whole post(not the encrypted message), you can see the password for it, just think outside of the box.w

"what are you made of?"

And my answer...Sugar, spice and everything naughty ;)
That's what this little girl is made of muahahaha!

I am made of ideas, and ideas are bulletproof... As matter and energy they can't be destroyed, only changed... but with enough change, I will slip past the barrier of human existence... Therefore, I am not bulletproof.

Now for the "grounded on earth" people... I am made of an immensely large amount of atoms as well... and atoms are bulletproof!  :P

And by the way, an edit on the previous post will make it ridiculously easy to get the password, all you need now is to know enough of computers to install and use PGP or an Open-source software based on it(Mine is KGPG, a GnuPG with a GUI for KDE).

Atoms are not bullet-proof if your bullet is a sub-atomic particle, and it sounds like your pass-phrase is "outside the box", though I didn't bother testing it.

Show a bullet capable of provoking fission or fusion, and a gun capable of firing one :P

And no... the password is composed by letters on ITALIC, from the same post where is the code.
