Post by: Vampire_Orchid on May 11, 2007, 01:09:43 am
Hey there all !!

Well some of you know me and my character as 'Cryss' incase you were wondering who I am...

Anyways, I feel the need to express my love for comics...unless I'm totally alone on this one...  :-[

I'm into alot, and collect them whenever I can...I just thought I would start a thread about something different to see how many  ppl would respond and too see how many more ppl have this in common with myself.

Hmm...well I'm a big Marvel fan, I love anything by Michael Turner. Got to love Spawn.
I love all the old lady death stuff...when she was part of chaos comics. Dark horse is good and DC too...But I'm wondering what really flicks everyone elses switch.  I know what I love, but what's your fave? :detective:

I am looking forward to buy all the comics of V for Vendetta and Watchman... so then perhaps I will see why Alan Moore is so pissed about some of the adaptations for movies of his HQs.

Some of the comics I read and/or owned in my youth.
Spider-man- The McFarlane years
X-men- The Jim Lee years.
Hulk- The Dale Keown years. I was a big fan of his style.
Superman- The John Byrne years.
FireStorm- Pretty much all of them.
Conan- All I could get my hands on.
Gru- funny little guy that he was.
Anything done by Bart Sears. Master of anatomy that man was.

None of which do I own or read now. They where however a great encouragement for me to work more at drawing and painting.
The only comic I read now is an online one by a friend of mine called Among the Chosen (http://amongthechosen.com/comic/index.php); a strange and wonderful mix of the things in his head. He's on chapter seven now. If you plan on reading them plan on taking a good while. Some chapters are pretty long.

Do you count manga's and web comics? If so then i got a couple as well. I tend to keep up on 8-bit theater (http://www.nuklearpower.com/), VG Cats (http://www.vgcats.com/), Looking For Group (http://www.lfgcomic.com/), and Giants in the Playground (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots.html). I also try to collect Manga's of anime's I liked. Right now i have Manga's for Hellsing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellsing_%28manga%29) and Fullmetal Alchemist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fullmetal_Alchemist) and I'm also slowly collecting the manga's for Excel Saga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excel_%28Excel_Saga%29), Rurouni Kenshin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rurouni_Kenshin), and Evangelion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelion_manga). Also apparently Firefly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_%28TV_series%29) has a comic out for it for the areas in between the the TV series and the movie and I plan on getting it once I find someone who sells it here.

if thats not good enough then, I use to collect Transformers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers_%28comics%29) (i had the first 26 issues of the first series).

Online comics don't really count.  The artwork of the online comics can't compare and the online comics are geared towards people with ADD.

:D Let's see if someone knows these:
"Agent 327" (http://members.lycos.nl/agent327/) Great, It's funny but with good stories, it's about the Dutch secret service ;)
"Storm" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storm_(Don_Lawrence)), about a Guy who traveled to the 'storm on Jupiter' and ended up in a different time/dimension thingie, it's a Great story although the Headline throught the comics is a bit vague to me :P
"TrigiĆ«" (http://www.triganempire.co.uk/home/)  Some call it a Roman empire rip off [Like the Vulcans and romulans in Star trek] But it's pretty nice, about a far away planet where a high tech kinda roman empire is stated.
Fokke & Sukke (http://www.foksuk.nl/) , Not really stories, more utterly freaking funny sketches And yes the are available in Book format :P
GARFIELD! I just hope for you all you know what that is, so i won't post a link ;)

And Of Course "Asterix and Obelix" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterix)

But truely, Agent 327 Rocks!

EDIT:
Suske & Wiske and Kuifje!
Dutch comics ftw! :P

Ehh Kuifje is kinda like French or Belgium as well is Suske & Wiske :P

Haha no I don't know those ones...But I count anything on paper that was drawn by a human being a comic ;)

I also like Evil Ernie, Aspen, Purgatory, Soul Fire, Thundercats...haha yeah I know, I have some Weird ones I got as gifts...Like Cinnamon...? Wild C.A.T.S uhhh yeah...Glad to see that there is so much variety though...I love comic and all their twists and turns...

Got to love things Like the Phoenix Saga...Venom Saga...
That takes some creative writing right there. To think of how almost everyone is linked...
And don't get me started on alternate time lines and stuff like that. Alot of ppl don't like those ideas...but fiction is always suppose to be the big "what if?" :woot:
